  1. When I first started bass fishing this year, I used to tie my braid line directly to my T-rigged bait. You have no idea how many bass I lost when I set the hook. My 30lb line would be cut by their razor-like "teeth" (don't know what you call it), so I changed it to a 50lb braid just to have the same result... After some research, I found that you could use FC leader, which I did. So far, I haven't had a single fish cut off my line. Whenever I tie braid to FC, I put some glue just in case. Even when my bait gets stuck between rocks, the FC gives up first. The knot is always intact. Also, I feel I've been getting more bites, especially from larger bass.
  2. I can't believe you got it for $35 lol, that's awesome. The cheapest I've found so far is above $50... the shipping cost makes it go up so much
  3. Thanks for all the help. I've measure my rods, which are less than 41 inches long, so I won't need the lock. I will just carry them with me. I've looked through the Cabela's rod travel case, Plano Airliner, and Flambeau Bazuka, and I will go with the Plano one since it goes from 47-88" long. I might need it to carry my 7ft rod someday as well. Now, time to find one for a good price...
  4. I use the Abu Garcia Veritas (1st gen) 6'9" MH/F. It's a 2-piece rod, so I have no issues carrying on the bus or subway. I use it for everything: jigs, spinnerbaits, frogs, a few swimbaits. It feels a little stiff, but it's pretty sensitive from my experience. You can get a new one for like $45 online now
  5. I would do the same thing as you lol, but the thing is that I'm carrying 2 rods for my friend. The other 2 are mine that I bought for cheap, and they are much cheaper here than in South America... So far I found 2 options: the Flambeau Bazuka and the Plano Airliner... might have to get one of these As long as I use the TSA locks, it's fine. I never had issues with them cutting my locks.
  6. Thanks for your replies. I was considering making my own tube with the PVC pipes, but I realized I can't lock the tube. I heard that some people got their stuff stolen at the airport before the baggage claim, so I don't want to risk my rods getting stolen. I forgot to include this, but I was hoping there were tubes with a lock security system as well.
  7. Hey everyone, I have 4 rods that are 2 piece, and I want to take them to South America during Christmas. Is there any rod tube you could recommend that will hold all these rods at once? I don't have a car, and BPS, Cabelas, and other fishing stores are far from me, so I can only order online. Any suggestions? I would prefer a strong tube to avoid any damage. Thank you.
  8. Caught this 7.5lb bass on my third cast with a jig today. Missed a couple of bites, but I still managed to catch 7, one of them weighting 5.45lb. I still can't believe this small ponds holds such big bass
  9. Where the Muddy River connects with the Charles River. You can also try at the Brookline Reservoir or Jamaica Pond.
  10. Rage Tail crawfish in watermelon red flake and black blue flake. Thomas Buoyant spoon in gold color. Flip&pitch jigs black&blue and PB&J colors. Livetarget frog in black and yellow. Strike King spinnerbait bluegill color.
  11. Awesome tips! Now, I remembered something from yesterday. I know how important it is to watch the line for jigs, but how would you do so when it's really windy? Yesterday, the wind was getting stronger, making it harder to tell whether my jig (1/4oz) was being moved by the wind or by a fish. If I tried to pick up the slack line, it would kind of lift my jig. Unfortunately, the 1/4oz is currently my only jig (waiting for a few more from Siebert!). I had used a 1/2oz jig before, but it didn't feel right on my Veritas rod
  12. Went to the Charles River yesterday. Landed 5 bass all over 2lbs for sure. I lost another 4. I used a black&blue jig with a crawfish trailer.
  13. Really appreciate all the help. I actually went fishing today using a jig with a trailer. I hooked 8 out of 9 bites. The one I missed was because of my lack of experience. Like you guys said, right after I casted the jig, I waited for it to touch the bottom. When I slightly lifted the rod, I thought the jig was stuck but since I felt a really subtle movement, I set the hook, not strong enough since I wasn't really sure. Of course, the fish took some line and got unhooked. However, is it me or you lose more fish using jigs vs t-rigged baits? I managed to land 4, but the other ones escaped right in front of me when I was trying to lift them...
  14. Thanks everyone! I will try setting the hook as soon as I feel that thump. I think I just need to get used to jigs since I'm still not really familiar with them
  15. Hey guys, I've started using jigs for bass since a few weeks ago. Before that, I've always used t-rigged rage tail crawfish because it just worked too well. Now, my question is: when do you set the hook for jigs? When I used the t-rigged crawfish, if I had a bite, I would start lowering my rod (following the fish) for like 2 seconds and then set the hook. I was wondering if this is how you do it with jigs as well. I've done this, and it worked, but I'm not sure if I would miss more bites. I've seen how fast a bass takes the jig, meaning they could spit it out that fast as well. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
  16. Thanks! I only thought there were rainbow, brown, and brook trouts. I never heard of tiger trouts before; they fight like crazy though
  17. I forgot to attach the picture.
  18. Hey guys, I caught 2 trouts that looked like this last week at Jamaica Pond in Boston. I thought they were brown trouts, but something seemed different. Do you guys recognize this trout?
  19. I forgot to mention that my buddy caught a huge brown trout on a jerkbait yesterday lol. That was an intense fight!
  20. I went to Jamaica Pond and Wards Pond on Tuesday after the rain. At Wards, I caught a pretty big bass on a black&blue jig with Rage Tail Crawfish trailer, but that was it. So I moved to JP to the boathouse with the same jig. After like 5', I had a subtle bite, and when I set the hook, I felt some really heavy weight. As I kept reeling in, I saw a huge bass managing to unhook itself from the jig... I thought that it was over, but I threw the line on the opposite side. Small bites again and set the hook! Again, something heavy on the line. This bass kept pulling line, forcing me to put my rod in the water since it kept going under the dock. After a few minutes, I managed to take it out. Not sure how much these two bass weighed, but I would say at least 3.5lbs for sure. I went to these two ponds yesterday and caught nothing... oh besides a frog on the top water mouse LOL
  21. I just came back from Jamaica Pond in Boston. I saw a few big bass close to the shore, but they wouldn't bite anything. I caught a couple of small ones on the Thomas Buoyant spoon though. I used my new Rage tail Menace like a swimbait and caught 2 trouts. I think they were brown trouts, and I missed 4 more bites.
  22. I started bass fishing this year, and the only thing I use is the t-rig Rage Craw. I've caught bunch of 3lb+, but my PB was 7.8lb at the Brookline Reservoir last month. I've never caught more than 5 bass in a day, so hopefully I learn a few more things to improve this.
  23. Hey guys, Not sure if you guys know about Wards Pond in Boston, but I stopped by there today to see what it had. The moment I got there, I saw a small pickerel close to the shore and a few sunfish. I threw frogs, crawfish, and a spoon, but no bites. I saw two small bass chasing the spoon but that was it. For those who have been here, any idea of what to use here? There is like only 1 spot where you can cast, and the pond is full of vegetation.
  24. You can catch bass with top water frogs in JP early in the morning and afternoon. Also, if you go to the boathouse, you can see bunch of bass. I've caught a bunch using the Rage tail crawfish and Thomas Buoyant golden spoon. Last month, I caught a 5.5lbs and 2.5lbs bass on the Livetarget black frog as well.

Hey everyone, I've been living in the Boston area for the past 5 years, and I started fishing this year. I'm still fairly new to bass fishing, so any help/tips would be greatly appreciated. I usually go to a few ponds around Boston and the Charles River, and surprisingly, they hold big bass more often than not. If you guys have any questions about these ponds, just let me know. I will prob end up asking more questions tho lol
