  1. Any person that has bass fished several states knows that bass will hit any lure that is presented well.
  2. I agree freshly caught fish taste better. Mangrove snapper, dolphin, and blackfin tuna are delicious but I prefer hogfish that I catch myself.
  3. Never been to Italy yet I love eating Italian food. Maybe I will visit in a future vacation. The same spinnerbaits I use in South Florida catch smallmouth bass in the most northern of states. Have caught largemouth bass on small inline spinners in South Florida. I have more examples but this is enough for now.
  4. Southern lures catch bass in the North and Northern lures catch bass in the South. This I know from my own experience.
  5. There are plenty of good swimbaits for less than $100. I suggest you get one that you feel will work good in your area and only fish that one swimsbait until you are very comfortable with it. Too many people buy too many swimbaits just to barely use them. No lure catches fish if it is not being used.
  6. Bass fishing season has just begun for me this year.
  7. Thank you for your response. I will consider harvesting a couple yellow perch the next time I fish up north. Cleaning fish is not the funnest part of a fishing trip but I enjoy doing it to feed my family.
  8. I do not plan on fishing any swimbaits over $100 since I do not see the need for it but understand why they cost so much. Many of these swimbaits are handmade which requires lots of work, I know since I have made several of them for myself. It is up to the fisherman to decide if an expensive swimbait is worth the investment and if buying a +$100 swimbait makes you happy I say go for it. Just don't expect to be catching more +8 pounders compared to someone who uses regular lures, knows how to fish them well, and lives in a place where there is lots of big bass.
  9. I have caught yellow perch as well but did not eat them. Maybe I will keep some the next time I fish up north. Which one is your favorite one to eat? From my experience the best tasting freshwater fish in South Florida are Oscars and Mayan cichlids that come from clean waters. They taste much better than any crappie, walleye, bass or other freshwater fish I have caught. Saltwater fish such as mangrove snappers taste better than any freshwater fish I have eaten.
  10. In your opinion how do yellow perch compare to crappie or walleye? I have eaten walleye and crappie I have caught, they taste good but I prefer saltwater fish.
  11. This subject reminds me why people are much more dangerous than any alligator, water moccasin, shark, or other animal I encounter while fishing. At least animals attack to eat you or defend themselves, same cannot be said for the fools that speed and drive reckless.
  12. Good report! From what I researched the Salmon River is one of the best places in New York to fish for salmon and steelhead.
  13. I rather eat fish I catch from the ocean.
  14. They are a pretty fish that is for sure. As for football shaped bass I have caught largemouth bass that looked they swallowed a football. Both of them are very fun to catch and any day you catch one is a good day of fishing.
  15. Light tackle fishing in small rivers is fun and a productive way to catch fish.
  16. Nice smallmouth bass. I prefer seeing bass on a measuring board since it shows the true size of the bass. Even weight scales can be off if they are not properly calibrated. I agree. You should see the mouth of a 26 inch or longer largemouth bass.
  17. The Following black bass species are found in Florida; 1. Florida largemouth bass in the Peninsular part of Florida 2. Northern largemouth bass and Northern largemouth bass X Florida largemouth bass (intergrade) in the Florida Panhandle 3. Suwannee bass 4. Shoal bass 5. Choctaw bass 6. Spotted bass
  18. It is a good idea to add a monofilament leader when you need extra abrasion resistance. Braid gets cut easily when fishing near concrete structures and rocky areas.
  19. I find the opposite to be true. Florida is the best place in the nation for a multi species fisherman. I have caught well over 100 species of fish just in South Florida. Have caught more species in other states and countries. Florida also has several species of black bass and more of them than many states do. As for techniques you can catch bass on ultralight tackle with small lures to catching them on heavy tackle while fishing with swimbaits.
  20. Have caught spotted bass as bycatch while fishing for other black bass species. They give a decent fight but I rather catch redeye bass over a spotted bass.
  21. Taking care of one's Wife is more important than fishing so I now understand why you do not fish in the Winter. I would do the same.
  22. I have caught lots of trout on an Ugly Stik rod and they cost well under $100.
  23. Hurricane Zeta is currently in Louisiana at this moment in time. It is almost the end of hurricane season so let's hope this is the last hurricane for 2020.
  24. Those who truly love to fish will find a way to fish.
  25. What about fishing with bait for other species of fish? 2 hours of fishing is more than enough to have a good time. When it gets very hot I fish under the shade of trees and fish during lowlight conditions. I make sure to drink lots of water and so far it has worked very well for me. Now is not the best time to travel, maybe in the future. Ice fishing is one of the things on my bucket list.
