  1. Hey guys. Just very recently started using a buzz bait. And on a medium 6’6” spinning rod. From all of my YouTube perusing, I see that a casting rod setup is the way to go. I’ve never used one, so what would you recommend for a somewhat entry level setup that I could cut my teeth on but still be productive. I could probably spend about $150 total or so.
  2. Thanks for all the tips! I also use a lot of Rooster Tails, Panther Martins and Mepps inline spinners. Is braid to a FC leader a good option here? Or best to stick with my mono setups?
  3. Hi! I do all of my fishing on skinny water from a kayak. The typical large/smallmouth I hook are 3 pounds at most. I have had a couple of 4-5 pounders pop off, though. Can you make recommendations on fishing line for my top lures? I've been experimenting with braid to fluoro leader lately and have been impressed. I fish mostly 4" dingers, 5" senkos, super flukes and dead ringers. I also tie on some 3-4" strike king or keitechs from time to time. And alot of 1/8 oz to 1/6 oz rooster tails. I also use 6' to 6'6" light to medium light spinning rods. I've toyed with maybe trying a casting setup at some point, but at a loss for what a good size would be for creek fishing. Thanks in advance!
  4. Hello everyone. I exclusively Kayak fish in creeks and rivers. I've had a heck of a time finding reels that will last very long (Daiwa Legalis, Lews Speed Spin). I've had the best luck with Shimano Sedona for far. I've noticed the Daiwa Fuego has "Magseal". Would that be a good option for me? Hopefully that would reduce the chances of sand/silt/etc getting in the gears. Do any other brands have a similar offering with "sealed" internals? Or do you you have any other suggestions?
  5. I guess that’s one reason to keep receipts. Doh!!!
  6. Hi! I bought a Daiwa Legalis LT2500 a few weeks backs and have used it a few times. It’s gotten worse and worse and sounds very rough when reeling in. And casting distance has gone down too. Here’s some sound: https://www.dropbox.com/s/pyc1f5pfz4awawl/Video Jun 11%2C 9 24 31 PM.mov?dl=0
  7. I am using 10# super line.
  8. Hey guys. See the attached photo. I see this happening almost all the fine when I put on new line. I would say this contributes to some of my bird nesting as well. any thoughts on his I can more evenly spool line?
  9. Do 4# and 6# sometimes make it difficult for you to tie the know? I've only tried Trilene 6# so far, and it tends to stretch and get all out of sorts when tying the know. My PLine 8# (on my medium setup) seems to not have this problem. I've ordered some KastKing 6# mono and we'll see if that works any better.
  10. Hello all. I do alot of creek fishing with ultra light rods, so naturally, I've got some small reels paired with these. Most of these reels only listed rating for 2#, 4# and 6# mono line. However, if I decrease the yardage, can I also use 8# mono line? I'm finding that tying knots using 6# sometimes is more difficult that I'd like (line gets stretched easily). Thoughts?
  11. Yes. I'll be mounting above the water line.
  12. Hey guys. Just purchased a budget kayak (Lifetime Tamarack Angler 100), and want to make some mods. In particular, I'd like to place a few gear tracks/rails on the side. Is there a certain screw or installation method I should use to ensure no leaks occur down the road?
  13. Yeah. I caught the gar in stagnant water. I immediately started fishing above and below the waterfall section after that. This creek is about 20 yards wide in most places and 6”-5’ deep from what I can tell so far. Mostly smallmouth and rock bass so far. With some sunnies mixed in. Wacky rig is one I’m not familiar with. I’ll give it a shot! Can it be rigged weedless?
  14. Hi! As I said in my first few posts, this is really my first year fishing. So....this is my first summer to fish through. I fished from 1pm-4pm today in a local creek in lows 90s, sunny weather. Is this basically a bad idea all the time? If so, I'm assuming the recommendation to fish would be before 10am or after 5pm? I used Zman fluke, Zman shadz, beetle spin, bisty minnow, Zman craw and trout magnet today. Only caught one longnose gar (that's a first...so that was an interesting unhooking adventure...) and a few bites after that. No more fish.
  15. Picture wasn't the best. It actually did have an outside red ring.
