Buzz bait fishing

Featured Replies

Hey guys. Just very recently started using a buzz bait. And on a medium 6’6” spinning rod.

From all of my YouTube perusing, I see that a casting rod setup is the way to go.

I’ve never used one, so what would you recommend for a somewhat entry level setup that I could cut my teeth on but still be productive. I could probably spend about $150 total or so.

My only recommendation is that if you crank with your left hand when using spinning gear, go with a left hand baitcaster. Unless you want to cast with your right, switch to your left, and crank with your right.

Plenty of good reels at $150.

If you’ve never used a baitcasting reel before I’d recommend using the bulk of the 150$ budget on a reel with a decent braking system to help with the learning phase…..

and since you plan on using Buzzbaits with the setup anyway I wouldn’t worry about getting a particularly sensitive rod so I’d go with a good reel and just an alright rod….. whatever’s in the budget

medium heavy/fast rod 7’0-7’4 range would be my recommendation

I’m with Mn Fisher go on Amazon and get a Daiwa Fuego and as NavyToad said get a left hand retrieve. When that comes in if you have a Dicks sporting goods bring the reel and look at a Lews Carbon Fire or any of the moderately priced rods and pick up whatever feels good in your hand with  your leftover budget.
