  1. Hunting them will not solve your issue. your best bet is to call a PROFESSIONAL trapper. They will be able to help you remove any residents. Also there is a reason those coyote choose to be there. The trapper should be able to help diagnose why those coyote are there and if possible you can remove those variables.
  2. The way I see it... Fishing is a skill. That is proven by those who can continuously make a living fishing. However, fishing is part game of chance because there ar elements outside of a persons control that constitute luck. I believe the skill of an angler can reduce the element of luck but not totally negate it. I'm going somewhere witht this... Logically speaking... Yes it could happen and the probability is very low.
  3. I recently cleans my garage and found about 40 old spinner baits from when I was a teenager. Most are 15-20 years old. I'm glad I never tossed them. Despite needing new skirts about half of them are still good. The other half are not too bad except for the hook. My plan is to try to recondition them. What can't be saved will be canibalized. You might keep eyes on ebay and garage sales for used baits that you can use for parts. I bought skirt materials from fishingskirts.com. They have spinner and buzz bait parts there too.
  4. Compared to most serious anglers, I don't have much for tackle. I am not winning any money fishing either (and won't ever make a living fishing lol). However, I like to think that with a few types of lures some knowledge, and a little creativity you do not need a huge array of tackle. That probably puts me in the minority but I don't think it disqualifies my answer. A spinner bait is my go to bait for covering water and learning a little about the days fish. A spinnerbaits is super versatile. It can be retrieved slow or quick. It can be fished shallow or deep. It also does not get hung up very easy. Some techniques I use. throw it past where I think the fish are and let it sink to below where I think the fish are suspended. Then retrieve at the rate I feel will put the bait in their face at the depth they are hanging. I fish it shallow with a steady retrieve and the rod tip up a bit so help keep it from sinking. I let it sink to the bottom and vary my retrieve to keep it bouncing off the bottom. I fish it like a jerk bait. With a slow steady retrieve and then give it a quick tug and continue retrieving. I vary this technique in retrieve rates and severity/numer of the jerks. Sometimes I give it a brief pause after jerk too. It fishes well in grass. Strikes often come after ripping it through some weeds. I flip it into lay downs and brush. I fish it with and without trailers. So my vote is for spinner baits. My spinner rides on a Fenwick 6'6" medium-fast being tugged along with an Abu Garcia (I don't recall the model) 6:4:1 I'm only about a month into fishing with casting equipment but I love it. Wish I would have picked it up 20 years ago.
  5. At least we have a reason for why airfare has been on the rise.... 1500 gallons of fuel un accounted for...
  6. Friends of mine that don't hunt or fish ask me this question often... "Isn't it boring to just sit there until you catch something?" I answer... "It can be." They obviously reply "than why do you do it?" My answer "I can't tell ya why but, I can show you." It's not one thing.... It's everything.
  7. I have an update here. While catching up on "walking dead" tonight... I pulled out the jig heads I bought from barlow with the fiber guards preinstalled... By pulling 1-3 fibers at a time I removed them. I reemed the hole with a 1/8" drill bit. New 1/8" fibers fit in good. It's a little tedious but it's what I've got this go around.
  8. I could use a new lathe but since I recently bought a boat... then trolling motor.... and a a half dozen rods and reels.... I am willing to bet Mrs. H will not go along with the idea.
  9. Pretty sweet! I did not know grizzly was closing down the PA showroom. That stinks.
  10. Thanks. I will give it a shot.
  11. Alright. I guess I gotta go with the more traditional looking unit for the scanning capabilities.
  12. I have been searching the interwebs feverishly in search of a high quality depthfnder for my smartphone and tablet. I have found a couple but their technology seems to be far behind the stand alone units from major brands like Humminbird and Lowrance that offer down scan and side scan capability. Just to be sure I have not missed anything in my search .... Is there a setup available with side scan and down scan that uses smartphones and tablets? If available, I would prefer this type of unit for my boat. I have an iPad and feel it would be an awesome way to fish a fishfinder screen from anywhere in the boat.
  13. I'm gonna say yes. I would not put that much money in my tackle box all at once. I would rather pick a few lures and really learn how to catch fish with those. I have fished for years with only a handful of lures. I know how to use them and when and where to throw them (well... most of the time anyway). I fish very few lures but have selected lures to cover the water columns. Also to cover those water columns with different speed of presentation. In my box is a few of each of these. Top water jerk bait, Buzzbait, Spinner Bait, Rubber worm, and a Jig. A jig is fairly new to me but fast becoming my favorite way to fish. Top water jerk bait lets me fish the top with slow presentation. A buzzbait lets me fish the top fast. A Spinner bait for covering suspended fish with a faster presentation. A rubber worm to cover suspended fish with a slow presentation by rigging a drop shot. I can also fish the bottom or punch heavy cover with a Texas rig. A jig just because its fun. Just my 2 cents.
  14. The weed guards appear to be cast in as cadman predicted.
  15. I am not either. We are suppose to have some days in the 60's this week. I plan to take full advantage as we probably will not see the sun again until spring lol.
  16. Nice. It has been windy as heck here. I finally got my wish for a calm morning but... its snowing. I will work today so that I can fish when it warms up this week.
  17. Great info. Thank you Cadman!
  18. They pull good.
  19. 62 jigs lol. I bought them from Barlow Tackle. 50 Weedless arkies and 12 bullets. Do we know if those are glued or cast in?
  20. I would like to do a nice job but I am not concerned with perfection. I meant to order paint for brushing but I brain farted and ordered powder. I will call the seller to see if my order shipped and If I might be able to change it. My next question is... Where do I get jig heads and weed guards that are separate? I would like build these things nearly ground up. I would rather not go so far as casting my own though.
  21. I may have messed up. I ordered some parts to make my own jigs, however, I ordered powder paint and jig heads with weed guards already installed. Are there any methods for powder painting jig heads that already have weed guards?
  22. Thank you fellas. I'm new to fall fishing. I hear it's suppose to be great but... I can't find the stinkin fish lol. I'm having a good time trying though.
  23. I have never had my boat in the water after Labor Day. This year I am still fishing at this point. Poorly but still fishing. The weather for the weekend has lows below freezing (30 degrees). Should I be concerned with my boat being in the water with temps that cold? Unfortunately, I will not be fishing this weekend meaning the boat will be sitting. I have some work to take care. Also the forecast is rain. I can fish in rain, I can fish in cold. I cant fish in rain + cold lol. Fortunately, we are suppose to have some comfortable weather next week and I will have a few chances in the schedule to fish. So I would prefer to leave the boat in the water. Thanks for the help folks.
  24. My bait casters all have the handle on the left side. Until a month ago I only had spinning rigs. Handle on the left there too. Fished with the handle on the left for so long that I figured I would rather not add another hitch to my learning curve.
