You boys in Florida (anywhere actually, with similar habitat) generally speaking what lb test are you using on your spinning rods for bass? I understand higher for flipping, punching or other specialty stuff, etc., but just generally. Up here, NJ, Pa. NY it's 8 and 10. I use 8lb Trilene XT. Of course your fish on average are much bigger and the chance of getting something much larger down there are much greater. Planning on moving down in the spring and so, curious.

I do the same as PourMyOwn, spare spools filled and in my bag, cause you never know. And yes Dink, I have 2 ultralight Trions which perform fine, I can notice the difference between these and Supremes but they work fine

I think the amount of junk as well as quality in reels, as well as other equipment is relatively stable. The old adage, You get what you pay for, pretty much always applies, to a point anyway. I think that within each manufacturer's line you can find all of the above, price point often being a determining factor. The lower priced reels, generally speaking, don't have the same quality parts and workmanship as higher priced models. Having said all of that there are certainly exceptions to every rule, but for me, I stick with known manufacturers, buying there mid to higher priced models, mostly mid since that's what my budget demands. I'm a Pflueger guy, I like their Supreme and Supreme XT reels. I have a couple of their lower priced Presidents and while they're a decent reel and perform adequately I do notice a difference with the somewhat higher priced Supremes. I'm guessing the Patriarch more so, but I'm happy at the mid price range, and can't justify paying that much more. ps: These are 8 - 10 bearing reels, with quality gears and frames

Thanks guys, Puggz thanks and yes that was my thought on the 7:1, and yes planned on using braid but wasn't sure of lb. test. GulfCaptain, baitcasting. Do you guys have an opinion between hose two reels, same price range? All of my spinning equipment is Pflueger which is why I'm considering that reel, but have heard good stuff about the PQ.

New here, thanks for taking the time to read this, and possibly answer. 95% of my fishing has been with spinning equipment, but where I'm headed (Florida) and some of the fishing I plan will require casting equipment. I have a 7' St. Croix Tidemaster Med. Hvy Power, Fast action 10 - 20 lb line, 1/2 - 1 1/2 oz inshore saltwater rod, wondering if this might serve as a general pitching/flipping rod. Would pair it with a Pflueger Supreme or BPS PQ, in 6:4 or 7: 1. What do you guys with way more knowledge of this type fishing think of this? Thanks
