  1. I think you'll be just fine. My new reel should arrive Wednesday!!
  2. Unfortunately, we will probably never know. I've already sent the reel back for exchange. It's a solid reel. If I didn't believe that, I wouldn't be getting another. My guess would be I got the one reel out of every thousand or so that has a defect. Waiting to see what arrives first, the new reel, or spring-like weather. In the meantime, I have more than enough options to get me through ?
  3. Just want to thank everyone who participated so quickly. I tried all of your suggestions and I'll be exchanging reels. I should be able to get the replacement before my next big trip. Much appreciated. Tight lines, RT
  4. Well, unfortunately it doesn't look like I'll be able to use it today, but I probably won't be sending it in until Monday so of anyone else has.any ideas, let me know!
  5. I'm trying to figure out how something would have happened.... In fact tomorrow was the first time I was going to.fosh it hard. Spooled it, threw it around to get a general setting for the brakes and put it on the rack. Glad I checked before I was on the water. Not sure what to do next... But I don't want to break anything further if it needs replaced. @Maxximus Redneckus good thought. Didn't work. Seems like something isnt lining up. Not sure what else to do but turn to the warranty and wait...?
  6. With the side plate open, the latch opens and closes properly. When I close the side plate the latch moves just enough to keep it closed, but will not lock into place. If I palm the reel or even bump it the side plate pops open
  7. No, of it's in the "close" position it won't close at all. Seems like it's "locks" in 3 places that I can see and something is keeping the latch from rotating
  8. Thanks @Poolshark but here's a curve ball... It won't latch even if I remove the spool...
  9. Yea.. I've tried with them all "on" and all "off". Is that what you mean? Or is there something else I can do?
  10. I've taken the spool completely out of the reel and it still does not lock closed. Thanks @JustJames for trying!
  11. I've tried with them all "on" and all "off". Is that what you mean? Or is there something else I can do? Sorry if that's a silly questions but this is my first Shimano and a new braking system to me.
  12. I'm on an hour plus of searching online and trying everything under the sun... And supposed to take it out to use tomorrow ?
  13. Attempted that, and even removed the spool. Did not work...
  14. Just spent 20 minutes trying to close the side plate on my curado 200k after making a simple brake adjustment. It seems like if the end nearest the thumb bar is flush, the end closest to the external dial is off, and come versa. Worked out of the box, casted only a few times and has been hanging on my rod rack. I'm baffled. HELP!!!
  15. Not sure of the effect on line, but the dyes I've used have a weird chemical reaction with skirts. They crinkle up right away but usually return to normal after they dry. It's a good idea, but scares me a bit. I'd go with colored line from the manufacturer of your choice.
  16. I throw 12# siege on a baitcaster for square bills, jerk baits, lipless cranks and even some top water and haven't had any issues. It's tough, but still casts well. I would recommend respooling after a nasty backlash or a lot of shallow cranking, but $10 for 330 yards I can change it out 3 times and not break the bank. On my bass spinning gear I use braid with a leader, but I do have 6# elite on my trout reels and it handles very well. Doesn't seem to have as much memory as other monos I have used (I also condition my line, but I really have no idea if it makes any difference). So, thumbs up to each, but if you're using casting gear or fishing around structure my vote goes to siege.
  17. Has the Titanium 8 casting rod been discontinued?! I have the 7'2 MH/F and it's a great, versatile rod. I think I got it for $100 during a sale. Anyway, are there any more of these rods out there?! I might be interested in buying another... Nothing on the website or catalog that I can see.
  18. Anyone on here that has used the curado 200k in 8.5:1? I'm going to be pitching and frogging, and maybe the occasional 130 Whopper plopper, so I want a high speed reel, but 36 IPT is 5" faster than any reel I currently throw. Looking for thoughts/feedback/recommendations from anyone who has used the 7 and 8 speed curado 200k for those applications. Thanks!!
  19. Be careful here... The concept makes sense but I have a backstabber square bill and the stock hooks tangle in each other, and the top hook effects the way it swims. I can't speak for the lipless, but proceed with caution. If you go that route, start small. Glad I got mine as a part of a monthly subscription product.
  20. Looking at the Curado 200K. 8.5:1 - 36" IPT 7.4:1 - 31" IPT 90% of the fishing I'll be doing with this reel is pitching and frogging. The "catch" is, does the faster reel confine me to these techniques? I worry about the other 10%. While both will get the job done in picking up slack or turning a fish in cover, is 8.5:1 too fast?! Anyone on here throw both ratios in the Curado 200k?
  21. This is a little off topic but still relevant (I think). I'm looking at a Curado 200k for frogging and pitching, but I can't afford to have more than a handful of reels. I.e., I may throw a large swimbait on it once in a while. My questionstion is 8.5:1 TOO fast?! And can I be just as effective picking up line with the 7.4:1 and make the reel at least a little more versatile. Thoughts?!
  22. I guess to stay "on topic" I'll tie it in by saying the deal on the PQ was the 7.5:1 so I put it on a dofferent rod, but I do use the rod that I got with it for some cranking. It's a 7' M. The tip isnt ideal, but works just fine.
  23. Agreed... I like both reels, just something about the PQ in my hand that's feels more sturdy than the Carbonlite, if that makes sense. I also have a bit of play in the handle of the Carbonlite, but it's a year older than the PQ, and not uncommon across all reels regardless of brand. Honestly the BPS and JM reels remind me a lot of Lew's at a better price point. I got the Carbonlite 2.0 on sale for $99 and the PQ2 combo for $120... So I basically paid for the reel and got a rod for $20.
  24. I have a 7'2 MH/F titanium casting rod I purchased at a BPS store. Never did see that length in any catalog or online if I remember correctly. Seems they are pushing the Carbonlite, now. Any idea of that's it's "replacement"? I only see it in 7' or 7'6" MH... Wonder if other lengths are available in store. I would imagine it's comparable. If so, I am pleased with the titanium after a year of beating on it. That being said I have a Carbonlite 2.0 reel and a pro qualifier 2. Aside from being a bit heavier, I prefer the PQ reel over the Carbonlite.
