Can you help me identify this bass?
Glad to see another ATL area basser. I recently checked out the Georgia DNR Fisheries Page and noticed that they have recently discovered four new species of black bass, the Chattahoochee, Bartram's, Altamaha and Tallapoosa bass. Hope to eventually catch all of them, starting with the Chattahoochee. Bass Forage: Golden Shiners
Golden shiners like to eat all sorts of stuff like zooplankton, algae, fish eggs, fry, and insects. They spawn in the spring-early summer by attaching their eggs to shoreline cover. Large females eventually develop an ovarian parasite that prevents them from reproducing after 3-4 spawning seasons. Fully grown adults average between 8-11 inches in length. Throughout the summer they will roam around through open water and in the shallows searching for food. In fall they will slow down and stage deeper. They are resilient fish and can withstand many conditions and temperatures. For a good imitation consider a Zoom Super Fluke in Sun Gill, Arkansas Shiner, or Golden Bream. Also check out the Magnum fluke to imitate larger shiners for bigger bass.

Zoom bait co.
Zoom hands down has the most variety of baits, tied with amazing colors and durability. I can't think of any of their products I dislike. They have a great army of home-state followers, and I'm gonna be a general. I think the only competition I have for #1 Zoom fan is the bass lol.

Medium or Medium heavy for crankbait rod?
Right, that makes more sense.

Medium or Medium heavy for crankbait rod?
$110? the Lunker Stik is only $80. The 7'3" MH would be good for trebles because of the moderate action, plays the fish better and I prefer a moderate/moderate fast action for fishing spooks, poppers and such. Not so sure about frogs, I would use a faster tip for a better hook set.

Medium or Medium heavy for crankbait rod?
I would go with a MH for 3/8 oz and up. A Medium would be good for light jerk baits, topwater, and other treble hook baits. Fenwick makes some nice rods, good luck with the purchase. I suggest 12 lb mono or fluoro.

Crushed 'Em on Topwater
Went down to a plantation in South Georgia this weekend. There were 5 ponds but I mostly fished two of them, the main pond and a swamp pond nearby. First day I caught about four during the day, each between 1-2 lbs. At sunfall I started walking around the swamp pond where the sound of frogs was deafening, fishing with both a horny toad and the Lunkerhunt Lunkerfrog. Hooked up with another nice one on the horny toad, and then followed up with a chunky 4 after the sun went down. Did another walk around the main pond after this with just the Lunkerhunt, and caught three more chunks. It was about 1:15 in the morning when I went back in. Next day I woke up early with three friends and we headed out to the main pond. Didn't catch anything for a while, although the shad were busting everywhere. I could pick up shad off the ground that had been blasted up by aggressive bass. I was still fishing my frog for a minute or two when a nice bass blew up and it felt like I set the hook into a wall, breaking off my 30 pound braid. Went back and borrowed a friends whopper plopper 90. Within three casts it got slurped by this old big mouthed bass. She was skinny but strong. She weighed in at a lean 5.04 lbs.

Big bass are smarter?
I don't think anybody thinks that, reason. I think that there are people on here who prefer to simplify bass fishing, and I think there are people who make bass fishing complicated. Trying to convince either to think the other way is somewhat pointless. I don't know of anybody who is a qualified bass psychologist, and what we as anglers think is mostly speculation based upon logic.

Fishing around private docks, etc?
lol... boater problems.

Big bass are smarter?
The younger a bass is, the less interaction with lures and fishermen it has. Therefore as it grows older and bigger it will be more experienced, and therefore to a fisherman like us "smarter". Smart is simply what we prefer to say because it makes sense that if a fish doesn't eat your lure, the fish is using reasoning and making the decision.

Follow up Video: How to Untangle Pile of Line on Ground- Stolen Fish: Poor Etiquette
This is gonna be pretty common if you're fishing a pond or you're on the same boat. For instance this fall I was in the canoe at our typical fishing spot, and asked my brother, who's pretty inexperienced, if he wanted to catch some nicer fish or just go for numbers. He wanted to catch a nicer fish and I gave him a bulky spinnerbait while I fished a shaky head. Told him to cast into a deep pocket near us, and two casts later he caught about a five pounder. Another time while we were at Lake of the Ozark's bank fishing I told him to try a square bill and work it near the dock, and once again a couple casts in he was holding up a 4.5 pounder. It's something that at first I regretted, but in the end you know that he had fun catching a fish and you can take some partial credit on the catch. Being said, this was my brother and not a stranger. If it was a stranger it's a different story.- Looking for a new Travel-Rod
I have the Fenwick Methods, highly recommend it.- Lowest memory mono
I use Berkley Big Game a lot, and highly recommend it. It does have slightly more memory than Trilene XL, however is much stronger and abrasion resistant as well as less stretchy. Good for those rocks you mention. Trilene XL is the limpest line I have ever used, as well as the stretchiest.- St. Crook Bass X
I have the extra heavy one, and i want to trade it for something else. It's a fine rod, but guides are pretty giant in comparison to my other rods. Its a little short for me too, could use another 6". this is all personal preference though, you should try one out yourself and ship it back if you don't like it.- What's the best Craws on the Market?
Much like my answer for the "favorite worm" question, I am very biased towards Zoom. They're a local company, and I swore by Zoom worms fishing ponds for years after catching my first bass on one. These are what I'll use for trailers on jigs. Warm- Ultra Vibe Speed Craw, Fat Albert Double Tail Grub, Z-Craw Cool- Big Salty Chunk, Super Chunk, Z-Hog- Bass eats baby duck
although not a bass, this video is really tempting me to buy that duck.- First try at tying a hair jig
looks a bit like a tarpon fly. cool.- Has Your Home Lake Ever Changed This Much This Fast?
The spill well of the pond I fish the most is broken, and this has caused the water level to be down by about 2-3 feet for the past 6 months. This wouldn't be so bad on a lake, but in a pond where all of the cover is found against the bank (laydowns) it creates a much different atmosphere for the fish.- Dam fishing
They work great just about everywhere! ?- My absolute most fun lure to fish is........
Anyone that doesn't like topwater has something wrong with them, and you can include me with the "topwater gang". For me, big swimbait fishing is the most fun because even if you aren't catching fish you know that every minute your lure is in he water and your presentation is correct your chances go up for a goliath.- What's your go to worm?
I use the zoom untalenworm because I am generally only fishing for small bass, and they love that it when you reel it on the top over their heads. It looks like a snake swimming away, and the top water strikes I get are ferocious. I have caught bass up to 4 pounds on that worm, and it is also cheap as dirt. You get 20 for anything from $2-$4 depending on your store!! Zoom is a local company to me though, and I have to say I'm a tiny bit biased to them. Any tackle store I walk into has an entire 15'x10 wall devoted to zoom, and most of the time they're on sale. - It happens to the best of us
