How much wasted tackle?
I'm sure this a repeat of someone else's post but it came to mind. How much wasted tackle have you bought to date? I estimate I could fill up a 5 gallon bucket. In fact I've never got a hit on most. I've tried just about every type that I've seen, in multiple colors, and sizes. Still nothing, no indication at all they worked. To this day I have 3 or four that work. Inline spinners (the"Y" shaped one's no) Shallow dive slim crank baits, repallas and such Jigs And lastly double tails grubs. I see the pros using the big y spinners( I really don't know the right name for them) getting hits and winning tournaments. If that so is there strike rate 1000:1 casts? My biggest bass yet was around 4lbs off a broken back 3" shallow dive perch colored lure back in the 90s. I still have it and still get hits using it over the hydrilla. I get the impression that used car salesmen have nothing on a fisherman ?.... " I once caught a bass 10 feet long " ??

Looking for a decent hiking type GPS?
Seems it's discontinued. Can't find specs or price. The e-trex have gone up in price. This might be an ebay buy. Something about the lowest priced Garmin makes me skeptical.

Done fishing for bass this year
I was skunked on all bass in 2020. Not even one bite. Just a few bluegill and perch. 2021 been a little better, I hope 2022 will be even more

Battery issue
Explains why my Everlast batteries only last maybe 5 years in the tractors. We had interstate batteries at work both reg and deep cycle. They had problems.

Battery issue
A dumb comment but might be worth it. For some reason in 40 years I've never had any luck with interstate. 90% of the usage was in farm tractors (only ones I could get at the time). They never seemed to hold a charge. The tractors were small 40-60 pto hp.

Over fishing is a problem I've seen here. Below is an excerpt from an article. is a drastic prediction, because the iconic Chesapeake Bay species amount to a half-billion-dollar industry in the Eastern U.S., according to one study for a recreational fishing organization. "It's a potential if we wait two, three, or four years to really start cracking down on the harvest," Winegrad said. "It is a potential that we would be forced into such a drastic measure." "Back in the 1980's we were experiencing similar declines," he added. The famous five-year rockfish moratorium engineered by Winegrad and supporters in 1985 is credited with saving the species from complete collapse. Populations of the fish came roaring back in the years after the moratorium was lifted in 1990. Oh BTW: people yelled and complained every day for 5 years. As far as snakeheads go I'd rather not see them get to the level of the Asian Carp problem in Kentucky.

Dumb battery question
Just a ARGGGGG FYI. I looked over the specs from the site recommended and a few others last night I just got 5 emails about batteries and my Google Chrome "news feed" has 3 articles on marine batteries.....privacy has gone the way of the dodo.

Tournament entitlement?
Man you got that right..I'm in MD and I won't fish the lower Potomac due to there "uncooperative " nature...I think it's due to politician sickness ?

The snakeheads here multiply super fast and we are still figuring out how to catch them. One they're skidish as heck and for some reason "bump" your lure. The DNR seems to have given up on them. Local lake is flooded with them, since they like panfish I might buy a few of the 4 or more segmented panfish lures I've seen next spring. You really need to sneak up on them on a cloudy day. Or catch a bluegill and put a big hook in it and let it swim around.

Be glad you don't have snakeheads. They decimate perch, bluegill, crappie and everything. They've invested every waterway below the Mason Dixon line

When I was a kid we would "sell" our catfish catch to the local crab house...and catfish wasn't on the menu. ?

Dumb battery question
Duhhhhh. I'm truly sorry. It was a loose nut behind the steering wheel problem. There is more of a V in it than I thought. I just remembered, granted this was 15 years ago, I measured on the edge of the transom. I wasn't this year. Also crestliner said it is plywood and don't mess with it you'll strip the screws ? Using the mud line(yes I have to wash it) it's 5" now with the extra weight. At least now I know why I got hung up on a stump awhile back. Again my apologies.

Dumb battery question
Thanks to all. It's a 2005. No wood, composite tramsom, that I've found other than on the bow. Everything on the deck seems plastic. That I've found so far. It's garage kept and only been rained on twice on the road. Lots of Styrofoam pieces in it. That I saw putting on the TM. Not spray stuff more like flat packaging stuff. It would take a week or more just to remove enough deck to see. I'd have to gut it.Then another 3 weeks to reinstall without striping the holes out. I thought about checking last winter. It got about 20 gallons in it due to a waterfall ramp and "glue" bunkboards from sitting to long. Below is a pic. The front layout is slightly different. I can pull the batteries and the underlying plates and shop vac the water out. It's only 1/8 " with the bow raised. At the very least the batteries, bottom plates, dry storage, and livewell would have to come out. It does have a bilge pump although slightly raised. It wasn't built to be worked on. Thanks for the info. I'll call a dealer to see what I can figure out.

Nope there isn't. This motor has a compass autopilot that is heaven on earth to me after the MG. I just point it and press the button. I can still steer a little with it on. I'd have to do a lot of work to go to 36v and about $10k. ??

Dumb battery question
2 harbor frieght wrench sets(never trust HF size on wrenchs) small socket set. Gallon of oil, 8amp charger, extension cord, marine radio. First aid. It's all in the dry storage. Oh the front TM is about 40lbs minn kota power drive and heavy as crap to haul up.(which I was warned about also). A light rock anchor. Not using livewell. Some water in it between the ridges that won't drain out. I had a problem getting water in it last year, it's fixed now but I never dug down to the bottom to get the water out. So I figure 50-60lbs more(old TM was the lowest MG there was 45lb junk). I looked up in an old physics book and yes the difference changes more with a little first weight on a V bottom due to area in contact with the water, I guess it applies to flat semi v also. Oh well I'll keep my eyes out for those lithium or agm batteries. It's not worth $2000.00 right now

Dumb battery question
Don't know. Says 27dc 800mca 80ah @20hr. And a 24ms. For the outboard The trolling battery is one size below there Max. I think the old trolling one was 60amp hr at best...yep I'm sure about that it died fast. It's Everlast batteries.

Huh, yeah I can stow it back in center transom. Thanks

Ahh 8 ft. I think mine is 6. That makes a difference. I put on a used minn kota 80lb 24v that everyone in the forum said don't buy so I can get into 6" water with the bow. Everyone was right the pedal crapped out but I got it fixed, figure it will last a long time the way I use it. If not I can fix it with a jelly lid and some solder.

Dumb battery question
When I got the boat new in 2005 I remember being very pleased that the stern was only 4" deep with a full tank of gas. Since then I've replaced the interstate batteries (one size larger on each) with Walmart batteries. I figure I have 20lbs of gear in the back (in addition to the batteries)now but it's now 10-12 inches. It's a 17' bass/crappie with about a 70" beam. I've been considering getting those 500 to 1000 dollar batteries but don't know if it will buy me anything or even if the draft acts like a spring. A little weight at first gives a bigger draft change than more weight later. I didn't do well in those classes in the 80s. I would love to get it to six inches. The only way to test it it to pull the batteries out at the ramp/dock. That's a big problem right now and for the foreseeable future. Any comments welcome

I was kinda considering that size as there are a thousand dealers near Annapolis MD. Many on the water and I got take them out. Mostly center console fiberglass (man they handled like a freight train). I wanted something real shallow that would fit in my garage but bigger and more stable than a Jon boat. First choice was a roughneck with the channel and turboprop, but 0 storage space. Came down to crestliner, Bass tracker, and ranger. Found out in 2015 my crestliner is the same as the ranger that year with a different paint job, engine, and interior. Saw one at Guntersville and the guy let me look it over. Then I read something to that effect they were all made by maybe brunswick? Not sure anymore. I looked it over today, I'll move a bunch of stuff forward (small tool box, anchor then it will fit in the right forward compartment and I'll stow it between the console and gunwale while out. I'll move the boat hook/paddle to the left side. I'll have a usable net and still setup without climbing up on the boat.

Don't Believe Everything You Read/Hear
Agreed. Granted I'm a lousy bass fisherman but my two best lures ever and I still use them with very good success aren't even mentioned by the pros. The ones recommended by them I've bought and NEVER even got a strike on one. Even different sizes and weights. I guess whatever works for you works for you. I doubt they would work for anybody else.

I found the pictures...man I need to clean it. Oh it's my last boat, it's good but came with absolute junk accessories. All of them that can go has gone . mainly the MG TM and stupid console stuff. Also some age related stuff. It's running quite nicely now. I like the CMV. That would be perfect on the Chesapeake and lower Potomac. Lot's of room. I'm 40 miles from the bay, I had to go to central PA show to even see bass boats other than BPS and ranger. Oh my neighbor showed up today, since his work truck is down he wanted to go get snowed on at Deep Creek ?
