Broken Eyelet
Thanks guys, I knew I could glue a new one on, which I have when the tip was snapped, I was just unsure of how to get a bent one off. Ill try to heat it and pull it off, see what happens. Thanks Again!

Broken Eyelet
How would you guys recommend fixing a broken eyelet on the tip of a baitcasting rod? The metal frame is still intact, just the ceramic insert has fallen out. :'( I know I can buy an eyelet and glue it on, but I am not sure how to get the original off. This has happened to me several times and its getting expensive to send them in to Bass Pro Shops or other places. Thanks!

casting and reeling
Ya me too, I switch to reel with my right hand after throwing with it. Whats weird is with a spinning reel however, I reel with my left. I feel very uncordinated when I try to reel a spinning setup with my right hand. I tried a left handed baitcaster once and same thing, felt very awkard. Guess Ill just have to be weird

wounds??
I just fished a tournament a day or two ago and we caught one 5.0lbs, hooked deep in the mouth with both trebles of a rat-l-trap in its gills. When putting the fish on the board to measure (20 inch limit) id never seen so much blood come out of a fish into my boat and all over the board. A minute after he was in the livewell he was belly up, but my partner kept "messing" with him, standing him back up strait and pushing water through the gills. (I also put an extra aerator in with it) After about a half an hour of care the fish was back to staying upright on his own. By the time we weighed in over and hour later, it swam around in the tournament holding tank, and was released to swim off. To me I always thought a bad gill hook was the end of a bass, but I think if u give him highly water highl saturated with air and a little TLC it can sure help. Moral of the story... Dont give up right away on your fish!!!

pond fishing
I know what you mean. All of these guys are right. Basically any lure you throw in a pond will work just as good or better then in a lake, specially with less fishing pressure. The problem you run into is you cannot readily apply the "tactics" of lake fishing suck as points and under water humps, creek channels etc. Most ponds are nothing more then a round hole in the ground with little to no structure. Concentrate on any shoreline structure you see, as well as anything you can find on a graph. Points usually do not continue out into the lake and "drop off". Most points you find in ponds and small lakes are simply curves in the shoreline and nothing more, containing identical features of the shoreline next to them. IF you are lucky enough to find a feature of the shoreline that is drastically different, even weeds, that place will hold a majority of your fish most of the time. Dont be afraid to just simply back off the shore a little bit and fish out 20-30ft with something a little deeper, alot of times in ponds its all it takes to get those fish that have been effected by weather etc. -TommyBass

How Do You Know???
Heres a question that Im not sure has an answer but here it goes.... You have all sorts of soft plastics in your tackle box.... worms, lizards, creatures, tubes, etc. All pretty much immitate a crawdad type thing to fish. How do you guys choose which type to start off with ? I can catch fish on all of them but sometimes it seems as if one will do better then the other and I dont know why... it seems like something like a brush hawg would catch the same fish a plastic crawdad does but it dosnt all the time. So guess all I am sayin is how do you guys choose which type of plastic to go with when you have so many at hand to choose from?

Those with experience please help me
Fishin deep can be rough w/out a depth finder but not impossible. Say you have high pressure situation or bright sunlight or post spawn or hot days, something that you know sends fish deep, concentrate on how teh bank looks. Many times the bank continues its look right on down into the watter. Fish out on points that look like they run out into the lake and they almost always drop off wel enough off the side to hold fish. If its cloudy or lower pressure or any of the things that bring fish up try goin shallow. Concentrate on structure etc till you get the hang of other techniques. No one always knows where they are and how to catch em or this website wouldnt exist. Overthinkin is a problem but you can under think to, dont go whippin lures out and not payin attention, that can set ya back (sometimes though it catches the most fish)

Those with experience please help me
Maybe when the hole broke open it just sucked em all out and away... maybe the nearest creek will hold some of them bass ... but in all seriousness you should use something small that catches fish anywhere like a jointed rapala, beetle spin was a good try, um some crappie jigs, any of those lures you give little kids to fish with.... now as far as bigger lakes go thats probably not the best idea. Try different things and learn from everything. If you still have problems make a notebook. Stick with basics, dont cook steak if you cant make hamburgers if you know what i mean.... and the worst part is mental... id say its at least 80% of your fishing, if you go out thinkin you wont catch fish you probably wont... persistence and presence of mind are the key... hope that helps

Hey JT...
Hey cephkiller, where abouts you from? I am also around 30 miles south of Terre Haute (sullivan area) How you been doing locally?

Gander Mtn in Terre Haute?
It is not in the service merchandise store itself, and i cant remember which actual little chain of stores its in, but its right along that side of 41 near the mall (not in it but right across street pretty much), i was so excited to have it there i forgot to really pay attention to where it was. They are already open but grand is this weekend, its pretty big inside. Got alot of huntin cloths, guns, fishin poles/reels, TONS of line, select brands of lures, normal stuff like tshirts and what have ya. There are hotels within a mile or so of the area JT, not next to it but just off the Interstate there are 4 or 5 decent ones. Able.... I am from around the sullivan area, bout half hour south... im sure you know where it is if uv lived there. Do alot of fishin in their minnehaha FWA and lake sullivan, plus occasional trips to west boggs over by logotee and patoka and monroe. Guess we dont have any huge lakes around there but theres definately good fishin

Gander Mtn in Terre Haute?
Lets see, if you used to live there, its almost across the street from the mall. I believe the same complex that the old Service Merchandise was located, somewhere along that east strip of 3rd street on the south end of town

Gander Mtn in Terre Haute?
I may be there, dont know yet. Only about half an hour from me. REALLy needed that type of store. Closest one was either Dicks in Evansville or Gallions (now Dicks) in Plainfield up by Indy. maybe see ya there!

Good question
Dont know what a bass season is, so I guess we dont have them here in Indiana. Catch, keep, and release at free will here.

Deep Deep Water
Hey guys Heres a question about fishin deep. Ive caught quite afew lately on a jig, weighted husky jerk, and carolina rigged baby 1-, but I have been lookin to try something else since I know fish are there. The water I am fishing drops from a small island slowly to 7ft, then rapidly into 20-25ft then about 15 yards out from that from 25-45. There are fish scattered REAL close to the bottom, a few maybe being 2 ft off, mostly between 1st and 2nd drops. Water clarity probably 8-9ft, and some flattened out hydrilla mats go down at least half the way down the drop off probably come up 1-2ft off bottom. What technique would you use in this situation. Fishing a jig gets old cause your always waitin on it to get there, then you pick up up and it drops forever cuz the drops so quick, making it hard to maintain bottom contact. Just wonderin on another fishermans point of view, Thanks!

barometric pressure?
Also.... Raul is partially right in that the changes such as cloud cover and rain with pressure changes effect fishing too. All weather plays a role, but pressure can too.
-
barometric pressure?
Barometric pressure has plenty to do with fishing. Have you ever noticed the pressure on yourself while diving under water? It vaires with pressure, just as the air does. When barometric pressure changes it pushes more or less on the water and the fish. Higher pressure means there is more pressure on the fish from above, sending some retreating to deeper water. A recent article I read even went as far as to say it effects their swim bladder effectiviness and could possible even give them the feeling of being full. The opposite would be true on days of low pressure. Less pressure down on the fish lets them move around more actively. Also, according to that article by state DNR, they could even get a feeling of hunger or emptiness due to low pressure, possiblely making them feed more. All this contributes to why you have better days fishing on low pressure days. Bass jsut dont wake up and think they will or wont bite. Pressure under water is greatly amplified to fish. One thing is largemouth have a tendency to move more laterally then smallmouth or spots, which tend to move up and down more in the water column with changes in pressure. This isnt saying largemouth wont move out deep during high pressure, but they are also more likely to stick right on the cover, practically making you hit them in the head before they bite. This is my take on it any ways.

Daydreaming
Day dreaming is the for sure way to catch fish on days they dont bite. Simply strategy is to just not pay attention, and youll fill the boat

stunted fish

stunted fish
I just recently read the new article on bassresource about bass in ponds. I got to thinking about my problem and thought I would se if you guys had any suggestions. I have a 5 acre pond behind the house and I fish it very often, especially when tryin a new techinque or lure (very helpful for that) But within the last 7 years the fish dont get over 15 inches. They used to be frequently caught from 3-6 lbs over the course of a year. Now there are alot of small ones. Lots of bluegill, some crappie, and lots of pretty nice channel cats. o ya, and 12 grass carp wich are HUGE. they mostly feed on fathead minnows and bluegill crappie young, some frogs Pond max depth is around 16 ft, around 1/3 of it is >10 ft, the rest slopes up to some shallows and a couple pooints, some drop offs steeper then others. It really has good potential, and it once was good. Moss and this flowery surface viny-grass do grow out to around 10ft off shore, some years we clear it with herbecide stuff some years we dont, not much at all within the last 3yrs or so. Do yall got any ideas on how to fix my pond so i can get teh big boys growin again? THANKS FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS Tommy Bass
