  1. The best rainsuit for the money is the one I am provided by my job...free hahaha. I work the ramp at a private airport. It keeps me dry all day(rain, jet fuel) without issues. I don't even think it is expensive. I wear whatever I want underneath it to stay warm. However when to comes to fishing, if its warm out a T-shirt and shorts is my suit of choice.
  2. It's just considered weightless, but you use the same off-set worm hook and rig the worm the same so its weedless.
  3. For me its all about using it weightless. My percentage of strikes skyrocket once I remove the weight. Using a worm/creature bait with nice action that flutters as it falls drives them nuts. I also try to use as light of a line as I can around 8-10lb line.
  4. Yeah I have the same problem when fishing with plastic worms, but it usually bluegill/crappie that are the culprits. Can you confirm that it is bass? The only other thing you can do is try down sizing lure size. The only time ive be seen bass pick up a lure and move it is when they are on their nest during spawn
  5. I've used quite a few different digital scales. They work well and can be very accurate as well. However they seem to have problems frequently and seem to always need new battery's just when you land a nice fish. Last year I broke down and purchased a 15lb boga grip and couldn't be happier. Its very well built and will last a lifetime. Best part..no battery's always ready to go. Whenever fishing with friends they ask me for my boga instead of using there own digital scales. It was a tad over $100 but its well worth it. I feel since chasing my pb is what its all about for me I want an accurate reading in the event I catch one. You can also ship it out to have it certified. Do yourself a favor and save up a little money and buy a boga it will be the last scale you'll ever buy ...d**n does that sound like I was paid to say that or what hahaha
  6. Wish I could give you an answer you're looking for, wish I could also have a 25% catch rate like yourself in the winter lol. Here I have 0% as I stop fishing after the fall bite which is around oct-nov depending on the years weather. Then I take as much overtime at work as I can get during winter(more money=more gear) and don't start fishing again till late jan-feb-mar again depending on weather. I know I could still catch em if I put forth the effort, but to me its not worth freezing for such a small percentage of fish. I hate the cold
  7. Here's my ride, a 10ft Jon boat. I power it with a 30lb thrust trollin motor. I figured it needed a memeribal name so this is what it is
  8. Oct. 14th 2013 at 12:22pm...that was the day I like to remember hahaha The day prior(13th) I was fishing the same pond for the first time due to a family bbq. The pond is located within a state park only a few minutes from my house, and up until then I would brush it off as the I thought there would be nothing worth while in it as its highly pressured and very small. I walked up, first cast resulted in a dink. I then see two submerged stumps, so using my favorite 3/8 spinnerbait cast over to them. This results in a nice bass around 4lbs, the pond is circled by a walking/biking path, now I hear all these people around the pond who stopped to watch when they saw the fish jumping clapping and saying "what a big fish". I take a pic and put it back in the water, make another cast to the same spot and bang another fish this one a little bigger around 4.5lbs. Now all the people/family's standing there are going crazy cheering me on as the fish jumps and thrashes. I couldn't believe it, it was a spur of the moment thing so I didn't have any of my gear or scale just the one rod and spinnerbait which snapped off a few cast later ending my day. Still in shock I go back the next day, this time with all my gear including a hd video camera on a tripod filming as I fished in hopes I would land one of those bass again to weigh it. The day was the same as before, not a cloud in the sky and perfect temps. However the bite was dead, but I kept fishing with the same type of spinnerbait slowly making my way around the pond dragging the tripod along. A few hours later I made it to the last spot. Make a cast and begin to reel. I never felt a thing as Im watching my line start swimming sideways, I reel down and set the hook. Instantly I could tell there was something good on the other end. I play the fish in what seemed to take a lifetime, any line I would gain would quickly be stripped back out. Then I see her head break the surface as I drop down to lip her and knew it was the biggest fish I ever landed. The scale had her at 5.75lbs on the dot, I took one crappy picture of her with my cellphone and released her since I figured it was all on film not knowing the video camera had died while I was fishing. Later I review the video and the funny thing is the camera dies and stops filming just as I set the hook. I caught no other fish that day so the video I do have is very boring hahaha. Even just writing about this now its getting my adrenaline pumping and makes me wanna grab a rod and hit up some ponds.
  9. One, the bass fishing capital of the US...New Jersey hahaha
  10. To catch a state record, then turn around and use it as live bait to catch a new world record all right here in NJ. But back to reality, to better ones self/skill/pb I feel should go without saying. I was thinking about something a little more simpler...like buying a gopro to record my outtings. Then I could rewatch the seasons highlights during these horrid winter months.
  11. Nice fish, I would be ecstatic with a fish half that size right now. I'm going threw bass withdraw, haven't wet a line since fall
  12. I actually saw this on a fishing show once..its happens to a small percentage of bass, and they are referred to as snub nosed bass. I dont know what causes it though, I guess its just a deformity.
  13. I have my cell phone on me, and always have a 1080p HD videocamera in my tackle box. There is also almost always some random person near by and if for whatever reasons I cant get my gear or my phone is dead, I will ask if they don't mind taking a pic and texting it to me lol. If all I need to do is leave my cameras / scale at home to get my pb, then I might need to rethink this whole proof of catch thing hahaha
  14. Hahaha yeah unfortunately because of my size, if I hold even a large bass close to my body it looks as if I am holding a small baitfish so I tend to go with the classic largemouth pose I actually have been looking into getting some, but with the price of rain gear I'd much rather put the money into actual fishing gear and just brave the rain...In fact my previous pb(4lbs) was taken in a heavy downpour on a buzzbait. I was soaked, but it was hot out so I didn't mind.
  15. Thanks guys, and yeah I can't wait to try and get her again come spawn when shes put some weight on....seeing all your avatar pics really makes me feel stupid with a 5lber lol AK-NJ1986...pm sent
  16. I don't know of any spots in north jersey, but I do know of the places AK-NJ1986 refers to as I live in Manasquan(and he suggested them to me lol). However most of these spots were destroyed in hurricane Sandy, I lost a good number of fishng holes as a result. Manasquan res. is very good fishing grounds, but its quite a large place to fish from shore, so you would definitely want to rent/bring a boat of some kind(no gas motors). If you look on youtube search "Keep Reeling" he fishes the Brunswick area in north jersey, and gets some very decent fish.
  17. I started seriously bass fishin last spring, and shortly there after set a personal goal for myself to land a 5lber...though not that big, its not that easy to come by here on the Jersey shore. Well yesterday after work, the skies went from raining all day, to not a cloud in the sky. I got home grabbed my gear and head out to my favorite spot about 40 minutes from where I live. It was 6:30pm when I arrived, the water seemed still and nothing was popping off. I tied on a Booyah 3/8 double colorado spinnerbait, and on my third cast it hit..and boy did it put up a fight. It jumped out of the water four times, trying to throw the hook but I managed to land her. She showed 5lbs 2oz on the scale, a few people passing by stopped to admire its size. I put her back in the water, watched her swim off and packed up to end on a high note...now today its back to pouring which sucks cause the goal to get my next pb is running wild in my head.
  18. I was killing it last week after we had rain that warmed the water up to around 44 degrees. I was getting bass on slow rolled 1/4 spinner baits bounced off any structure I could find, and a few on crappie jigs. They weren't monster fish but hey I'll take it opposed to sitting in the house waiting for winter to pass. Also the pickerel seem to be in prespawn, and are exploding on everything I throw. I don't like catching them but yesterday I landed my PB pickerel that went 2lbs on the dot, then had an even bigger one on that threw the hook. They are all really fat. I have been getting all these fish on my ultra light with 8lb mono so its making for some very fun fishing. Now with this big storm here that's all probably come to a halt.
  19. I don't label anything...mainly because all the lures/baits are still in their original packaging and jammed into every pocket I have hahahaha. I do a lot of shore fishing and hate lugging around tackle boxes so in turn I become a walking tackle box I guess.
  20. Coming from a fellow auto mechanic, and someone who is currently(3 years now lol) restoring a 79 Z28 camaro you are the only one who can decide if its worth it at whatever the cost may be. I purchased my car knowing it would need a ground up restoration, meaning I will put more money into it then it will ever be worth. With the money I have put into it so far I could have purchased a same year, make, and model running/ready to go vehicle. But I chose to go with something I knew I could tinker with in my down time. When I am finished(not really ever gonna happen haha) I will have the pride that I know the car inside out and that it is my creation. Know that if you take that boat you may sink crazy amounts of money into it before its even "sea worthy" vs. you could go buy a new or used boat...modify it and still have less money put into it. So you have to ask yourself, are you looking for a project boat and all the headaches it will come with or something you can just throw on your tow rig and put in the water? Lots of people start projects(cars, boats, houses) not really giving thought to what its gonna take to get from it what it is, to what they envision in their heads. This causes people to get overwhelmed and lose hope in the project, which in turn ends up being one expensive paper weight.
  21. Funny to see this topic... About a month ago I went fishing at a local pond out in a small wooded area. As i was just standing there "alone" on the shore casting thinking to myself how quite it was out there, a shotgun goes off about 5ft directly behind me.....needless to say I just about s**t my pants. I turned around and there was a dude standing there just off the trail in the bushes holding a gun. He then kinda just walked around in small circles without ever agknowledging me, and then just walked off. He must of had quite light feet as he was not there when I walked up, and I never heard him approach. Now when I got there I whistle as I walk down the trail and look around like a mad man to try and make sure I'm not walking into the line of fire hahaha
  22. Very nice fish!!! I know what you mean about the numb hands and face. Lately its been pretty cold, and I lose all feeling in my fingers in a few minutes. I think I need to invest in some gloves
  23. Reminds me of when I went out on my 10' jon boat earlier this spring in the Manasquan Inlet for stripers. Me and a friend are sitting there, when a 95' fishing party boat came in about 25 ft away from us and had a massive wake. Everyone on the deck of the boat ran to the side we were on and thought for sure we were gonna be fish food. I heard one guy say " Are they crazy, you couldn't pay me to get in that thing". But with some very calculated body weight balancing we stayed dry hahaha.
  24. A jon boat is about all you need, throw on a good trolling motor and you're good to go. You can easily modify them for fishing equipment(storage, seats, live-well) or just check out craigslist. I see some nice ones on there around me, totally rigged up and ready to go for cheap. Other then that you could get a kayak(which I am doing currently). Although space and storage can be an issue hahaha.
