Ok guys, need opinions and advice here! About to drop a lot of money for me on a new GPS/Sonar unit. Im thinking hard on the Hummingbird with and without side imaging. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas...25889 http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas...=true Also thinking about a few Lowrances http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas...=true http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas...=true What do you think of these choices. Im wanting to keep it under $1000 for the unit. ALso would you buy one off of ebay? You can find them about 100 bucks cheaper there on average, does Lowrance and Hummingbird still honor the warranty? Ill also be needing a depth finder for the fron of the boat. What do you guys put up there? I dont know what I need for up there so Im open to suggestions. On to trolling motors. WHat do I need and post a link please. Im thinking of this one http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas...=true But Im really open on this becasue I dont know much at all about todays trolling motor technology. I cant tell you either DB as I didnt do worth a dang myself. I caught 1 fish, a nice 3 pounder but that was it. The wind pretty much kicked my butt as well. Oh well Its just something more for me to learn! Danny

I fished my first tourney this weekend down at Lake Amistad. Ive always been a weekend fun fisherman and a night time crappie and whites fisherman but Ive decided to move into the real world of fishing I got hooked really bad when I caught my first nice bass about a year ago and Ive been addicted ever since and this year I joined a club and started taking it seriously! Well the resluts were not good, but I didnt get zeroed! I caught one fish the whole weekend, a 2.97 pounder. I had one other bite the whole trip! Its was very uneventful from the fishing stand point. The lake on the otherhand was fun! 3-5 foot seas 20-30 MPH winds and pretty dang rough on Saturday, Sunday was much nicer and thats when I had both bites and managed to land one fish! Im guessing the whole reason for this post is that I want to get better badly and Im not sure how besided fishing as much as possible. I guess this tough start could do 2 things to a man, make him or brake him and it made me. The weather was not too good, the fishing was worse and I had an absolute ball! Man I love the tourney thrill, even at the local club level its fun and exciting! Eventually I want to be the guy they all say, how does he do it??? There is a young guy in the club like that, he is probably 22-25ish and he can flat out fish! He caught 32 pounds this weekend and won by a few pounds and I think its awesome! Man I cant wait until Im that skilled and can catch them in the elements like that! He caught 17 pounds yesterday in those dang winds and rough water. My hats off to him and to all of the others like him in the local clubs, you guys are impressive to me! I sure would like to learn from some of you like this that are members on this site! I agree with Maltese and Ghoti quite a bit. In colder water I like a Bomber Fat Free Shad in Rootbeer float color and in warmer water I like a Norman DD22 in Rootbeer color. Both colors are pretty much exactly the same but I like the tighter wobble of the Bomber with the waters colder. Ill also throw in the DD22 Rootbeer suspending model occasionally. I like the natural hues of the rootbeer color cranks alot. JMHO DannyG

A little off topic but Im also hearing of guys CRigging small spinner baits, sounds weird to me. It seems like the bait would just fall on its side and sink. Ever heard of this? Danny

Ive got a 6 footer pistol grip crankin stick for throwing shallow runners at the bank and its awesome, great rod for 50 bucks, if you wanna spend 80 bucks the Fritts cranking stick by American Rodsmiths is awesome too, thats what I throw my deep runners on and I love it. DannyG

I ordered some of the Ezee grass jigs last night and they look awesome. They have a color called southern bream that I want to try badly! ANyone using these jigs already? If so tell me what ytou think. DannyG

my sentiments exactly flechero, if you go to texasfishingforum.com there are alot of guys using the toledo bend and sam rayburn versions of the map and love them, iwas just wondering if anyone else used the amistad one yet??? we pay 300 bucks for a reel and dont break a sweat, you ask about a 300 fishing system and they all laught at you, i think its kinda funny, i use my map alot to eliminate water before I ever get to a lake, but call me old fashioned i guess ;D DannyG
