  1. Have you ever tried carrying a big bag of mulch? It's rather awkward. Now imagine it being 14' long and weighing 20 times more. I don't think that 100lbs would be a problem for you, the problem occurs when you try to pick up this big awkward piece of metal. I imagine it is doable, but it's just a pain.
  2. Whitewater State Park near Liberty is kayak friendly. Brookville lake is close by as well, but it's much bigger.
  3. The problem with Indiana is you either choose to catch quantity or quality. Personally I'll always choose quantity haha.
  4. Managed to catch 50 or so bass between friday morning and saturday evening. Most were within 2 to 5 feet of water and caught on a green pumpkin or junebug ned rig. None over 14 inches however.
  5. I once read about a guy who uses a weedless wacky hook (the ones with a wire that locks behind the barb of a hook) and he puts a TRD on it and fishes it on a straight retrieve through the salad. Not sure about getting a fish out of the muck, but he was able to get them to hit without dragging a few pounds of weeds in every cast.
  6. Crappie are full on under docks if anyone is itching to catch some. Took 45 minutes to catch 50 this evening. I'm starting to fish some new waters so bass reports are going to be slow. Also - favorite baits for fishing underneath bridges? These are bridges that are crossing mouths to fingers off the main lake. I'm thinking about drop shot, fluke wasn't working for me today. The water is about 20 ft deep under and coming up to the bridge, which is substantially deeper than the water before coming to the bridge.
  7. I thought someone was actually quoting me in a non-hoosier thread. Guess not Anyways, glad you had some success with Ned! It has served me very well. As @IndianaFinesse mentioned, using different retrieves may net you even more fish. However, when it comes to the Ned, as long as it is in the water you will find luck. Tight lines.
  8. Bust Out Another Thousand
  9. Chicken livers under a bobber fishing around a rocky cosway during the morning. In the lake where I fish cats come up by the thousands to feed around the rocks. It's a bit of a hazard on foot but a boat would make quick and easy work of the feeding frenzy.
  10. Seems everyone is catching some cats. Went out this morning and limited out on catfish between 5 and 12 pounds. As @IndianaFinesse said, they are preparing to spawn and are hungry for anything that is in their way.
  11. I fish whitewater quite often but rarely in the morning. Your best bet would be to go along the dam and fish rip rap or target shaded areas along the bank. Fair warning - Whitewater is very heavily pressured. Fishing the lake opposite side of the boat ramp may be your best bet but I wouldn't go too far past the beach as that part of the lake is pretty shallow. The East side of the lake has a decent ledge as well that might hold some fish during post-front (if it rains). Good luck to you. I have lots of luck fishing the weed beds around the rental docks with a weightless senko but I also don't have a boat or kayak.
  12. Hello fellow Hoosier. Take this question over to our unofficial thread if you want to get some answers! http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/166602-unofficial-hoosiers-thread
  13. I believe Z-man makes a bait similar to the one you're making called the Hula StickZ. It's not exactly the action your custom made bait would produce, but I imagine it would work almost as well!
  14. Crappie bite is on fire lately. 4-10 ft of water in both spawn and post spawn in different lakes. Managed to catch about 30 to 40 bass last weekend, mostly 13 to 16 inches in size with a big 19, all on either a ned rig or Z-Man chatterbait. This thing looks awesome! Homemade I'm guessing?
  15. If you got a local tackle shop that carries Z-man I'd give them a visit. Otherwise, I have learned everything I know from the good people here. 3 colors for the TRD I would recommend are the green pumpkin for clear water, coppertreuse ( Suggested by @IndianaFinesse) and Junebug color (Ned Kehde's favorite) for stained and dirty water. Fished on the lightest Z-man finesse shroomZ you can find (typically a 1/15). Some info from Z-man regarding the rig: http://www.zmanfishing.com/cms/nedrig.html A video from our good friend (and BR Admin) Glenn May: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/ned-rig.html The best advice I can give you regarding the rig is to just try it and learn it. There are nearly endless ways to fish it which is what I love about it and I haven't been skunked since using it. Tight lines.
  16. Not sure if it's the brand I use, but the flouro on my reel tends to fray if it rubs against a log, rock, etc. Especially if I get snagged up (happens quite often with the TRD) and I have to pull the line by hand in hopes of bending a hook, my line ALWAYS frays where I grab it. No way to prevent the fray and I end up cutting 10 yards of line every time I have to do it. I have never had that problem with monofilament. I'm using Spiderwire Flouro right now (was on sale).
  17. I'm very new to the Ned but I use 1 rod/spinning reel for everything and I don't have any issues. I fish it on a 1/16oz jig head. I use a 6'6" Ugly Stik that is Med-Fast and have no issues tossing the TRD 20 to 25 yards on 6lb flouro (switching to mono soon). Not sure if I would try it on a baitcaster, the bait is nearly weightless in the water. Hope this helps
  18. Been using the Ned rig for a few days now, and it is absolutely crushing all other lures in my box. Some of the biggest fish I've seen come out of a pond I've caught on a Ned. Even caught my very first smallie on it while doing a glide shake retrieve in 1 foot of water in a river. For anyone who hasn't tried the Ned or doesn't believe in it, I will personally reimburse you if you don't catch a fish on it.
  19. Thanks for your input. I need to make a trip to Prairie Creek soon, I just happen to have a season pass to fish Summit. Hopefully next week I'll hit up some new water.
  20. Feel free to send me a private message with what you have for sale and the prices (Nothing more than $100 as this is my first baitcaster). Greenwood is a bit of a drive but I'd be willing if your prices are in my range, thanks.
  21. Thank you for the suggestions! I was able to sight fish for a few bass using the TRD as you said. Caught 2 nice ones but spooked the rest due to the clarity. I have a KVD Sexy Dawg Jr I might try this evening over the weed beds. Also, sorry about your reel, hopefully it gets fixed! Not sure where you live, but starting Tuesday, May 31, the U.S. 40 garage sale is starting. I plan on going out and hunting for a baitcaster or two and you can usually get some good deals. Here's a little info on the garage sale: http://fleamarket.about.com/od/multimileyardsaleevents/p/historicnationalroadyardsale.htm
  22. Two part post 1) I once heard a man say "If you can catch fish in Indiana, you can catch them anywhere." For those of you lucky enough to fish non-Hoosier waters, did you find it easier? 2) What are the best tactics to fish a lake that has better than average visibility (Lake Summit for example) without a boat? I was told it is better to fish it before the sun comes up or go on days that are cloudy. Just looking for some suggestions/opinions/expertise. Thanks, Chase
  23. Finally got my Ned gear together, plan on trying it out soon. Junebug or coppertruese after the rains ?
  24. Are you going to be selling these jig heads?
  25. Found an awesome retention pond not 5 minutes from my house. Managed to catch a nice bass on a black chatterbait and missed 3 others. The pond is very murky because it's fed by run-off water, what are some lures I should try there?
