  1. South Carolina Home lake is Lake Wateree
  2. bass ale for sure. randy couture or chuck lidell?
  3. in muddy and stained water use a dark or black lure...the outline/profile is more easily seen. you are right on with the noise making lures too!
  4. this is an example of "practical intelligence" or otherwise known as common sense. we all go "Doh!" when we see or hear something so simple yet effective. i was having trouble weighing bass last night on a scale my wife and kids got me for fathers day. not anymore! thanks KU.
  5. gotta go with sweetwater on this one. even though i practice catch and release 85% of the time, i harvest some every year to eat. in some ponds i fish, the owner has told me to "keep everything". last night i caught and cleaned one that had a bluegill in its stomach, freshly caught too. in fact, we were catching them on bream beds!! bream and bass are an awesome combination in any pond.
  6. caught a 5lb. LMB on a slug-go (black w/ silver flake) on private pond.
  7. if you fillet, you bypass the scaling step alltogether! that is the beauty of it; easier to clean AND eat.
  8. an outstanding story! it is great that you are trying to do the same. much respect.
  9. i definately live in gator country (SC) and have eliminated any method of fishing that includes getting in the water with the gators. not every pond or body of water has 'em, but why take the chance? i RESPECT gators!
  10. ice cooler. no bout adoubt it. (laugh or groan as you feel is neccessary)
  11. my brother-in-law kayak fishes a pond about 15 minutes from his house and swears that when he is having a slow day, he can count on a certain black bass under the same dock/pier to hit a t-rigged worm every time. like clockwork he says.
  12. kayaks are very popular to fish from. ask RoadWarrior...go to www.kayakfishingstuff.com for more info. get a used one first. check out the weight of the kayak...it may be cumbersome to transport on a bike. many are between 35 and 50 lbs. they make inflatable kayaks also. my 2 cents.
  13. we were trying to hit them in the head as you just mentioned. unsuccessful though. we did not throw spinners, only buzzbaits. tried to make a lot of racket and get some reaction strikes. i would like to try it again. thanks for the help!
  14. i found in my father's things a Minn Kota trolling motor. the label says "Minn Kota Stalker 30" with an Indian Arrowhead logo w/ MK in it. if i can get a pic posted of it i will. no camera at this time. does anyone have any expertise in the area of old trolling motors? i believe that it is fairly old...maybe 15 or 20 years, but i am not certain. it has a green top and creme colored lower portion of the head. the prop is only 2 blades. who can tell me about it? thanks.
  15. after a long slump though, you begin to question your decisions, all of them! logically, you know you are making good decisions, but you don't believe in your own abilities. hook a couple nice ones, however, and that changes. success breeds success.
  16. what do you guys use to be successful in extremely stained water. we fished a pond that was practically red (reddish brown) from runoff after several days of rain. the black senko type bait worked at first...but then nothing. then we pulled out the stops and threw it all to no avail. looking for help here.
  17. does anyone have a used fish n dive kayak? if so, would you consider letting it go for less than $500? i know its a long shot, but i have been looking recently to no avail.
  18. Mr. George Perry went fishing with only one lure and landed one for the ages. he talks about it in a thread just down the page. he too was worried about losing the lure. Look for the thread "Releasing a record bass" on p. 2.
  19. good one redneck42... "franks and beans! franks and beans!" LOL there is just something about mary!
  20. i marinate mine in sprite or 7-up overnight. it helps to get rid of the mossy/grassy taste. adds a little sweetness as well. i like to prepare a beer batter to fry them in. then, usually, its on the plate w/ eggs and potatoes. the marinade is the key to good tasting bass though. it wouldn't taste nearly as good straight from the water to the frying pan. as my bro-in-law says "i release to the grease!"
  21. i agree with RW...i have been told by many that most of the bites on plastics are on the initial fall. but my experience is that they strike most often on the retrieve. i have no idea why my experience is different than others, but i have grown to expect strikes in this fashion far more than the other way around.
  22. my confidence gets shaky when i am in a slump. i got skunked for about 8-10 straight trips this year until last weekend. i know that alot of different things contributed, taking young kids, having a time limit (6:30-dark), etc. but i was really down on my baits and ability. personally, i like to fish until i want to stop, not when the clock tells me that it is time to go. working myself back to the top of my confidence after last weekend though. it takes time i guess.
  23. i'll say it again, there is no breakfast quite like fried fillet of bass, scrambled eggs and hash browns. yum, yum
  24. i've never done it...but i watched my mother several times reel in 2 crappie at once while fishing two seperate hal-flies (red head, white buck hair) tied about 18" apart. darndest thing i had ever seen!
  25. nothing like a fillet of bass with scrambled eggs and hash browns in the morning (many like grits w/their breakfast, i happen to be a potato man). darn skippy!
