  1. Mods: feel free to delete. Found my answer: http://tnstateparks.com/parks/activity-detail/fall-creek-falls-boating Took my family there last year for the first time and had the best outdoor adventure one can have. Weather was perfect and my 5yr old/3yr old (at the time) made it through the 2mi hike with energy to spare. Looking forward to going back this year. I found an hour here and there to catch/release some LMB. Even rented a jon boat, but the wind made it very hard to go very far from the lodge. Question, has anyone launched their personal boat with gas motor there? They rent aluminum jon boats and you are welcome to bring your own trolling motor... I called the boat launch store and he said no gas motors, but what if I trimmed motor up all the way and never used it? He wasn't sure if this was ok or not. I have a smaller aluminum bass boat: Lowe stinger 175.
  2. Those gloves made a world of difference. Thanks for the beenie too! Keep your hands and ears warm and the rest of your body stays warm. Can't wait for beech!!
  3. Really hoped we'd get some of that recently nice weather in the 60s...
  4. Imo, Daiwa and Shimano are pretty equal when it comes to similarly priced reels, from low end to mid range, but where Daiwa/specifically megabass has the edge is with the upper end. Shimano seems to tap out with their Antares DC, where megabass keeps going. Didn't mean to get off topic by throwing MB into the mix, but to me, MB is just an extension of Daiwa (Toyota/Lexus)...
  5. Really appreciate the offer and suggestions leading up to this point. Ah that makes sense why you were asking now. I thought you might have been in the market for an aluminum with a funky voltage reading ? Good feedback. After I realized that 11.6v is actually bad (dead battery), I replaced all 3. Your feedback on the voltmeter got me playing with the settings on the voltmeter last night. TM spins just fine for an extended period, no longer draining the batteries like the old set. All of you guys were right about them needing to be replaced. Good suggestion! I'll start by thanking you guys again for the education and trouble shooting. I know it was really hard to trouble shoot on a forum with limited photos/descriptions, but in asking the right questions, you guys helped me solve the problem. 1) we can all agree that original batteries were dead and needed replacement. 2) couldn't get a good feel on why the voltmeter was reading 1.0 on the 24v set up (old and new batteries, same reading). In reference to #2 above, I inspected the trolling motor lines, even cleaned up some other wires that didn't need to be connected (original owner had a windless that I removed and didn't remove wires until last night). Wires and connections seemed fine, tight fitting, no gashes/kinks or corrosion, etc. So I played with the settings on the voltmeter itself and may have found the problem. Should've been on dcv200 instead of dcv20? What does the voltmeter do at dcv200, does it round down?
  6. By no means good, but the individual batteries test out at proper voltage. 2012 Lowe stinger 175. I'm going to see if I can identify then trace the trolling motor cable back to the batteries to verify how they're hooked up. The trolling motor seems to work just fine, the reading is just way off and I can't seem to find anything while google researching the 1.0 voltage.
  7. Ok, replaced and upgraded all batteries with brand new interstate AGM and same problem. At the trolling motor receptacle (where TM plug plugs into), digital voltmeter reads 1. When I check the voltage in the back with 24v set up, same reading of 1. The problem isn't bad batteries. Trolling motor seems to spin just fine, but why is it reading 1.???
  8. Appreciate the prompt responses. I love this place. 3 new batteries next week it is.
  9. Thanks RB. Individually, they show 14.4 while plugged in and 11.6 when unplugged. It's when I check for 24v that the readout changes to 1.0.
  10. Looking for help from the forum's experts or someone who knows what may be going on. I am using a 24v minn Kota edge 70lb thrust trolling motor. After a full overnight charge, it runs on highest speed (5) for literally 60 seconds before it nearly shuts off in power or resumes at a speed of 1 while the switch is still on 5. When I check the voltage via digital voltmeter, it shows 1.0 at the trolling motor plug as well as at the battery connection (positive of battery A to negative of battery B). I checked both after use and after a full charge and read out does not change. Shouldn't it show 24v? Please help. Any idea what the problem is?
  11. Definitely something I'll never forget. As the years pass by, it'll go from a 1lb'r to 4 We were considering the blue bank resort. Besides being double the price of the pickwick inn, the biggest downfall is having to drive into the state park. A huge inconvenience if the wife and kids wanted to start their day early if I was still fishing. Thanks RW. Will look into TVA Park. Sounds like Glenn springs with stump city.
  12. My family and I took our first glamping trip during fall break in Oct 2016. We went to Fall Creek Falls in Spencer, TN and had an amazing time. We really liked the inn that was right on the water (I fished from and caught a bass on the 2nd story balcony-had to run downstairs to release). The restaurant that served all 3 meals was within walking distance and the state park with countless walking trails was also within walking distance. We almost never needed to haul the kids in the car to make a drive. The only thing I wish it allowed was a gas powered boat (electric only allowed at that lake) even though I did not own one at the time. Fast forward to today day and I now own a gas and electric powered tin boat. We are looking for recommendations on a similar glamping trip for spring break 2017. Have narrowed it down to reelfoot lake and pickwick. Leaning towards pickwick as their inn sounds a little more convenient than the reelfoot inn and only half the price. I would appreciate any different recommendations and/or reviews of any you've stayed at within 3 hours of Memphis, TN. Thanks in advance!
  13. New to boating. Now that Glenn springs and herb parsons stores are closed, how do you buy permits to fish the lake legally? When I was a bank fisherman, I would buy from the ladies in the store and go on about my business.
  14. Don't know about a tree, but appears someone caught the man made double sunken plastic chair reef and forgot to release it.
  15. Rented a boat at herb parsons Saturday morning. Fished for an hour then crazy gusts started blowing making hard for the trolling motor (on highest speed) to make it back across the lake. Decided to turn it in and pond hop. Stopped at Halle, missed a 2lb'r right at the shore, explored Johnson park for the first time hen finished at grove catching nothing at the last two places. It was a great weather day (little windy but kept the sweat away) and just what I needed after a long work week... To exercise my gear and listen to them sing.
  16. Skunked at the daycare yesterday. Did see 4 snakes slithering across the surface. Skunked at Shelby farms until I caved and put on a small fish bait then it was all the dinks you wanted. Maybe I should've done that at daycare also, but been searching for quality vs quantity lately. Hope you all did better than me.
  17. Very nice, congrats. Matches the truck too! I'm looking for a very similar set up.
  18. I've only rented boats at Glenn springs and its stump city, probably why they have the no wake restriction in place. Haven't been to herb but I'd imagine it's for the same reason. Have you checked out reelfoot? My buddies and I have a trip set up for guntersville next month, can't wait!
  19. Has anyone tried the pond in youth villages near the 5 way stop (actually 6 way stop) in Bartlett? It's off of Memphis Arlington near appling rd. Also, where is the daycare pond in Collierville? or what is the name of the daycare that is near it?
  20. Has anyone fished Halle pond lately? If you fished there recently and forgot a rod on the ground, send me pm with ID of rod and I can meet up to hand it back to you.
  21. Sorry to hear guys. I tried grove park and couldn't convince one of those spawners to bite either. Ended the day with one tail bite off and a lost (user error) megabass vision oneten; cash reward if found
  22. It's the one in picture above and parking is in ne corner (within a residential neighborhood).
