  1. i use to run 1 30 lbs trust minn kota on my 1432 alumacraft. worked wonders until i wanted to move around the lake more, and go a little faster. i used a 2nd 30 lbs trust minn kota to add a little juice. now i can power my boat in larger lakes without worry about the battery dying if i hit both sides of the lake. now im looking to step it up a little and go with 2 55 lbs trust motors
  2. great thanks im looking to go with something simliar to this setup, and learn better from pictures rather than words thanks again
  3. for a day of fishing how many hours did the old setup last you? thanks
  4. i have a 14 ft 1432 alumacraft with a 36" bottom. the boat is vary stable for my needs like everyone said, it all depends on the water conditions you fish in. here i fish on smaller lakes.
  5. great thread! thanks for the tip
  6. l im going to same route, and have purchased a 1432 alumacraft jon boat im too am going electric only. no only to save on fuel costs, but it has zero emissions. in the beginning i use to power my boat with 1 30 lbs trust minn kota trolling motor, using 2 batteries. later one i found this setup too slow especially if i wanted to move from location to location, or if the winds were higher. later in the year i borrowed a buddies trolling motor, which was also a 30 lbs trust minn kota. with 2 batteries, i was able to maneuver the boat around the largest lake i fished. this setup lasted me the whole day and into the night as well. i am now in the process of stepping it up a little, and going with 2 55 lbs trust minn kota motors. this is the biggest motor that will only need a 12 volt battery. later on, i plan on adding a few solar panels for charging purposes. especially if i plan on going to remote places without any power.
  7. can you please post pics of this setup for all to see? im looking to go the same route thanks
  8. lol i think we have a winner though i still might try to reduce the weight some how
  9. i too like many others use this line, and i swear by it. it is the roundest and thinnest line i can find. tips: retie, retie, retie... most often line failure is due to abrasions. braided line is also pron to failure to do small abrasions. i retie every hour, or after every big fish. palomar knot, use it when you use braided. i had the same problems as you before, and found out quickly that these 2 simple tips saved me from losing fish, and breaking off during hard hooksets. i set it hard on fish. last weekend, i sent a bass flying over 6 feet in the air, and well over 20 feet. lol. it was a site to see. oh yea im using the exact same line as stated in your post
  10. i do it all the time, even with a fishin buddy. the key is communication. every movement fast or slow can throw the other person into the water. we havent fallen in the water yet! communicate every movement, especially when turning on the trolling motor.
  11. great job im looking to do something like that in the near future with my 14 foot jon boat. how many ribs does yours have? as im looking to take out my middle seat to free up more open space. what is that hole in the front of the boat for?
  12. every company has different testing practices, which is the reason for a different weight capacity and a different motor tolerance. i picked up a 14 foot alumacraft jon boat, as it is 2 feet long, and can take a little more weight.
  13. yes that is the dry weight with nothing it in. as for the structural integrity of the boat, i feel that there are enough ribs in the boat to compensate for the loss of the seats. it is not like we are going to be hitting things at high speeds with the sides of the boat. the other boat i did have was not a jon boat, and did not have any ribs. the sides and bottom were flat, and we pretty much tortured it without any structural problems or anything like that.
  14. JON BOAT - Weight Reduction ? Hey Everyone I have a 14 foot jon boat that tips the scales @ 135 lbs. I was wondering ways I can reduce this weight? I would like to reduce some weight, as this boat is a car topper, and would like to keep it that way. I would like to get it to around 100 lbs if possible. How much does each seat roughly weigh, and what is under them? Thanks
