Buffalo, NY/WNY Fishing
I don't know about bond lake the big lake I used to do good in but I got skunked there the last two years. Granted I only tried a couple times a year. I went this past week and the water seemed very cloudy? not sure if that is dying weeds or run off or wind or some combination? I am just used to it being pretty clear. I had my yak out in the middle and your not missing anything lol. Actually it was my first time out with my first fishing yak. Found out that lake is pointless for fishfinders and pedals to shallow to and weedy to use either. I just joined this site last year but it seemed there were way more posts last year. If anybody has a kayak and wants to go out let me know. The larger bodies of water intimidate me so I would rather have some company especially someone who has some confidence where ever we go I had the worst winter/spring trout season of my life which led to an almost non existent spring/early summer bass season so confidence is tick poor right now. I managed to get out 4 times this past week 3 yak trips and one shore trip a total of 22 LMB on my week long staycation. Just wish most of the bass weren't dinks lol. It was good to get the skunk off the yak though and just good to be out fishing regardless!

Buffalo, NY/WNY Fishing
Wow not many replies here for the the 2017 bass season so far. I hope people are doing better than me1 this is the worst spring/early summer I can ever remember having. granted I haven't gotten out like i normally do in part because I have been trying to get this fishing kayak set up the way I want it (but there are a lot of other factors). How is everybodies fishing season going?

Buffalo, NY/WNY Fishing
My first smallie of the year. I caught it in the lower niagara river. I was actually trying to catch a steelhead. So far this spring I have been skunked for steelhead. The first spring I have ever been skunked for steelhead since I started fishing them about 6 years ago. If anybody knows a person or place that will customize a fishing kayak with things like fish finder, cables, transducers, etc please let me know I am not mechanically inclined and don't mind paying for things to be done right. As soon as I find a place to do ii I am buying the kayak. I am hoping that place in oak orchard will match the price I found online but i haven't heard anything back yet. not sure why that pic came up sideways it looked straight on my computer?

fishing near boca raton
I will be in boca raton from march 15th-20. All I do is fish while I am there I probably have already scouted 100 spots with google both fresh and salt/brackish. I live in buffalo ny and this trip is my yearly to visit my parents. I pretty much just fish the whole time I am there so if anybody wants any company while I am there or has any tips for this time of year or general productive area for me to check out I would appreciate it! I know there are some descent pea canals by my parents but they might be done spawning by now and I exclusively use artificials and I am catch and release only. I am always fishing with the intent of breaking PBs in whatever species I catch take some quick pics and release. Thanks for taking the time to read this! oh I also don't mind driving I drove four hours to catch tarpon in flamingo city during my last trip!

Buffalo, NY/WNY Fishing
I think like with most other places its feast or famine. I either do well there or catch nothing. I think maybe its me though? some like the pros or semi pros can get bass to bite when they are not biting. Not me not sure I will ever get there if it hasn't happened over 40 years lol.........

Buffalo, NY/WNY Fishing
ended up with four threw everything at em finally got one on a c-rig lizard but I wasn't even fishing it anymore went to reel it in and he grabbed it. The other three were one a blue and brown crayfish imitation totally out of my comfort zone just trying to make it move enough that the claws shook. Tough day but at least I caught some and I didn't let being skunked beat me. Back to work tomorrow vacations are never long enough.

Buffalo, NY/WNY Fishing
I even broke out the ned rig which I have been trying to get myself confident with only tried it a few times mostly because most places I fish aree to weedy. I just can't seem to get bit with it except for sunfish or perch no fish caught. Hard to get myself to commit more time to fishing it when I can't seem to catch I'm in the same boat with bass jigs every time I fish them I catch nothing so I don't use them I feel like i must be doing something wrong because I know that for some these are go to confidence baits.

Buffalo, NY/WNY Fishing
I went back to the same spots I went to yesterday today. I was all excited it was one of those days where I thought I had the fish figured out. Tried the same lures and presentation in different spots on the lakes thinking I could pick fish up the same as yesterday. I didn't even get a bite. So I went and tried the spots I fished yesterday still no bites. Switched up lures, presentation, color. About the only thing I didn't try was throwing crankbaits or soft jerk baits. Maybe I should have but it just seems in my head if slower finesse techniques aren't working than chances are faster reaction baits won't work? I never test the theory though so I could be wrong? Anybody get any bass today?

I fished harwood and case lake in Cattaraugus county. My best fishing day of the summer as far as size goes all but one over three pounds. The biggest was 5# which may be the biggest bass I have ever caught in the dog days of summer most of my big bass are spring fish and winter fish down south. This is the 5#

Buffalo, NY/WNY Fishing
The only thing I can say is there are fish in all the UB lakes. The biggest the one that is all muddy all the time is the hardest for me. I have caught bass in there but nothing over 12 inch. I am sure there are some big ones in there and I would love to hear of anybody who has caught in that lake I think its called lasalle. I have caught fish in the other lake at UB and behind the amherst police station. Pretty much all soft plastics have worked for me at these lake. With plastic worms at the top of the list. I was skunked the last time I fished at UB though probably about two weeks ago..... Here is the best bass from my vacation this week. This bass season more than most has me chomping at the bit for fall and salmon/trout!

Buffalo, NY/WNY Fishing
I was on vacation this week went to salmon river bought a groupon. Did some research before I went found a bunch of water that looked promising. Ended that three out of probably 20 spots were fishable from a small inflatable which is what I have. The girlfriend and I went out and we heard air escaping which effectively shut down fishing from any sort of boat. Ended up fishing the upper salmon river reservoir which is giant but had a lot of shore access. It was so dang hot and dry you could tell the reservoir was way down. Ended up catching some small smallmouth and one maybe two pound LMB dragging soft plastics. Now that I am back here looked for some spots south of here tried some ponds in zoar valley with nothing checked a couple spots I saw on google maps in perrysburg and on sisson hwy, also a spot in west valley. All posted and no fishing. The search continues............

Buffalo, NY/WNY Fishing
Where we are in history is going to put a lot more pressure on most people's honey holes. Between forums, social media, fishing apps, and Google maps , and kayaks. Everyone, is finding out about every bodies spots fishing them harder. Which is going to make all the fishing harder unless you know someone with private waters. I understand it, its how I found this site. I was searching for new spots. I wish I knew a solution but I don't. I totally understand why some people don't give up spots. I mean I know a spot on the lower river where last 5 years at its height there were maybe 20 guys and it was manageable. This past year there were more than 20 car loads! Cars from PA, OHIO, I even met guys from Denmark!! It was crazy. It's ok unless more guys are trying to fish one spot than is possible which happened to me a lot this past year. Plus there's guys throwing hardware and guys drifting. Totally different techniques and they don't work well together without forethought when it comes to positioning. Problems occur for instance when I get to a spot at 5am and at 8am a guy tries to set up right upstream drifting when I'm throwing a spinner up stream already. This doesn't work and things get uncomfortable. I can only assume it will be worse this year. I already get anxious about it I just love the fishing there so much in the fall. Thats enough of a rant from me about diminishing honey holes..................

Where to fish in central ny this weekend?
I will be staying in Altmar NY this weekend for three days. I have two inflatable canoes I was looking for a body of water that won't be overwhelming as far as size goes. My inflatables are not great for moving around but are fine on small lakes and ponds. I see the Salmon river reservoir, sandy ponds (north and south), cranberrry pond, etc. Most of these look bigger than I like but if anybody knows the fishing is good I'd try it. Or any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. I live in buffalo ny so I am not familiar with the area. This also means i won't be able to hog anybodies secret spots! Thanks in advance for any help!

Any Luck In Upstate Ny?
Anybody know anything about the altmar/ pulaski area for fishing? I bought a groupon to stay at a lodge on the salmon river this weekend for three days. It was the latest I could book my stay at the cheap price I received. Originally I was thinking I may find a stray king or steelhead since I have caught a steelhead in the lower niagara as early as july. After doing more research and finding out lake ontario is shallower out that way so the salmon river is nothing like the lower niagara my fishing plans have changed. I'm looking for any info on a promising bass spot in that area. I will have two inflatable canoes one for my girlfriend and one for myself. I see things like the salmon river reservoir, sandy ponds, cranberry pond, etc. in that general area. But I have never been there so I have no idea where to go. Anybody have any suggestions?

Buffalo, NY/WNY Fishing
there is some shore access but there are a lot of people who fish there and I think the shore spots get pounded pretty good on the regular so it may not be the easiest place to catch from shore. It seems there are a lot of guys on here who fish there I have only fished there twice if one will speak up they may be able to help better.

Buffalo, NY/WNY Fishing
I don't think fish stay in that overflow this time of year. The oxygen probably gets real low being shallow and full of vegetation. I think the fish probably move out or don't feed much there. They may only go in and feed early morning and evening or even at night if that. as far as good shore fishing spots go I don't know any right now? I caught some at hyde park but most were from my inflatable. always wanted to fish there from a canoe but your not allowed. I actually never caught anything the few times I fished there from shore. So l the grass floating in lake erie and flowing into the upper and lower niagara river is that normal for this time of year? or does it have something to do with the high temperatures? I have fished the lower river in july and august before just hitting my trout spots early and never seen all the grass I see now? anybody know anything about it? or when it might let up? It makes it almost impossible to fish.
