  1. I caught a dink on a Zman Ned jig 1/10th and a TRD yesterday. 4th fish I've caught all year. lol
  2. Never occurred to me to remove the split rings - I've always just hooked the snap onto the ring.
  3. About 6mos give or take a few weeks.
  4. I think we are done until next year. High 30s, cold water... Granted I did get a tiny one on a Ned rig today...
  5. Its a drive-by necro-post from a first-poster. They aren't here to listen or reply, just to stir things up.
  6. Incorrect. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/science/science-news/9797948/Fish-cannot-feel-pain-say-scientists.html
  7. As someone very new to this, my one and only goal is to catch more than 4 fish next year! I'll get to fish during the spring, so hopefully I'll be hitting some large ones!
  8. Well, I have some good news folks. Stopped off at Hornbecks on the way to Dow Lake and picked up some 1/10th oz Zman Ned Rig weedless jigheads and two packs of Zman TRD Ned baits. I didn't quite get the bait on the hook correctly (it was bent rather than straight) but it cast decently. They've lowered the lake level for the winter by about 6-10ft it looks like. Quite muddy and chilly as well as overcast - we didn't figure we'd stay long as we figured we'd not have much luck. Started off on this now grounded floating pier where folks disembark from boats to walk over to the ramp. No luck. So we moved down to this point that we fished from last time and got about 5ft from the waterline - nothing but mud. Just as I was about to call it quits, I got a bite. Not much but after a summer of next to no luck (my brother STILL hasn't caught a fish), it was great to finally reel in another. I did just like you folks said - reeled it nice and slow. Felt a bit bad for the guy as he hit that bait hard - the weedless -prongs?- were right near his eye so every time I tried to work the hook out I nearly gouged him. Finally got the hook out, bro took the pic and I put 'em back where he promptly swam off at light-speed.
  9. I was thinking the same thing with the UV index, supposed to be quite overcast for most of the day.
  10. Caught 4 fish all year (been fishing since late June). Caught 1 catfish on a Bomber crank, caught a small LMB on a Bomber Long A, caught another small LMB on a drop-shot senko and caught another small LMB on a Zoom Super Fluke swimbait. So, my rod says 1/4-3/8oz - to cast far, should I be looking at 1/4-1/2oz mushroom jigs?
  11. From what I'm reading, when it gets cold like this fish move deeper and suspend - when you're stuck on the bank, there's no way you can possibly reach those fish that are 20+ deep.
  12. We're down by Marietta - Athens is about an hour West of us.
  13. If you've seen my reports in the reports forum you'll notice that we've not caught a d**n thing all year. lol Summer was too hot, winter will be too cold... We just suck at fishing I guess. lol
  14. Haven't been fishing for a while and I've got the itch. I'd like to head back to Dow Lake over in Athens and try our luck again with some early afternoon shore fishing. Here's the weather report from weather.com Intervals of clouds and sunshine. High 44F. Winds light and variable. Wind WNW 5 mph Humidity 70% UV Index 2 of 10 Sun 7:31 am 5:04 pm Is it going to be too cold to go fishing? Would we be wasting the hour-ish drive there? We've got a really nice fishing shop on the way - what kind of baits/lures do you think we should give a shot? Appreciate the assistance folks.
  15. Brother and I have made it out about... 20+ times I'd say.
  16. You could total up every fish I've ever caught and it wouldn't be... 5lbs.
  17. Perhaps, but the pontoon is more stable, more durable and can grow with me (I.E. trolling motor, fish finder, etc).
  18. They make roof-racks. https://www.amazon.com/BMW-Support-System-Sedan-1999-2005/dp/B001N3GI9U But I think the Classic Accessories Colorado Pontoon Boat is a better option.
  19. It's right here - https://www.google.com/maps/place/Beverly,+OH+45715/@39.5499641,-81.6450383,15z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x88482bfdd270da95:0x5a6fd96aef1994d8!8m2!3d39.5478509!4d-81.6395732 My brother tried the Canoe thing and didn't have any luck over at Stroud's Run. As for pond fishing, you can reference my numerous AEP ReCreation Land threads in this very forum.
  20. We fished both sides of the end of the pier, both in front of and behind the pier, we fished the causway to the pier, we fished near the bank... It's not like we were stationary.
  21. lol Someday we'll find some. Someday.
  22. Was really anxious to check this place out. According to https://www.trails.com/tcatalog_trail.aspx?trailid=XFA072-139, Sounds like a great place to fish! So, we drove the appx. 1hr 45min to try our luck! There are two reasons I really wanted to fish this like - One: It's allegedly a great place to net some big bass and Two: it has a fishing pier!!! As anglers who are currently bound to the shore, getting out into the water as far as possible is next to impossible - but with a pier, we can get a lot farther than normal! The lake is gorgeous - give it a few weeks for the trees to change colors and you'll have a great scenic spot for camping. Today it was EXTREMELY windy. Temperature was in the 50s and we're glad we wore wool socks, boots and hoodies! Almost wish we'd brought gloves as well, but it wasn't quite that cold. My brother's set-up. My set-up. This is about as close as we came to catching anything today - my Rat-L-Trap. Thought I'd go for a little "perspective" shot. My brother being... my brother. lol I like to tell myself that I'm missing the half of the Senko because a fish struck at it and got the end of it - but I'm pretty sure it just flung off while casting. Another scenic shot. Here's the link to the full album, I only a couple more that I didn't post above. https://www.flickr.com/photos/cybrslydr/albums/72157674202145811/with/29868121844/ Another trip, another fruitless effort. My brother and I are beginning to develop a complex - he's still not caught a fish and I've only caught 4 - and one was a catfish on a 4-8ft crank! Disheartening is certainly a word I'd use. We used lipless cranks, lipped cranks, texas rigged Senkos, wacky rigged dropshot Senko, Super Shad swimbait... Not a single nibble that we could discern. Is it time to hang up for the year and wait until Spring? I sure hope not, because that's a long way off! Anyway, I hope you folks have more luck than we do!
  23. As much as I'm all about sharing locations, tips and baits, I'm NOT cool with someone nosing through my stuff without my permission. There are certain lines you don't cross and getting into others property is one of them.
  24. Brother and I went out today in South East Ohio - beautiful here too - didn't catch a thing. lol Glad someone did!
