  1. As a relatively newbie, I have learned a lot from You Tube, from the Bass Resource videos, Bass Resource website and time spent on the water. I am also learning from reading some of the threads here on the forum as well. Thanks for all the information!
  2. I fished today in the wind and didn't do well. So I came home and got on Bass Resources to see what to do on windy days. It was not Coast Guard weather but I will certainly change my tactics after reading the information on windy fishing. I'm glad I found this site! It has been very helpful to me as a new bass fisherman!
  3. I caught my first on a frog a few weeks ago. Not big but my first, period! Congrats!
  4. Looks like a nice fish to me!

Approximately 21 inch, 6 lb. largemouth caught on a Green Pumpkin worm in the Piney Mountain Reservoir near Finzel, MD.
  6. As I mentioned in my recent intro, I am relatively new to bass fishing. I have been trying to learn everything I can with videos and websites. (Glad I found this one!) I found a close reservoir called Piney Mountain that supposedly has some monster bass and muskies. I have been trying the green pumpkin worm that seemed to be catching a good number of bass for me. (14-15 inch variety). Last week I missed (couldn't get the hook set) one particular fish that seemed really heavy, at least to me. I had him on several times but he got off both times. Went out again last Friday morning and landed this guy along with a couple of pounds of seaweed. This particular part of the lake is bass heaven thick with weeds and seaweed and lilly pads. I was nearly speechless but humbled. What do you estimate he weighs?
  7. That had to be a heartbreaker! I've never lost anything that big but even ones smaller than that one can haunt you for a long time! I've blown hunts like that for deer and by far, I am my worst critic. I will examine what I did or what I should have done over and over and over until I am out of reasons altogether and just have to get back at it. Congrats on a good trip though!
  8. Greetings Everyone! I just recently started to do some serious bass fishing. I had done some from a boat in the past but it has been years and didn't do very good. I had major surgery this past spring and was not allowed to do anything strenuous like fly-fishing, which is what I have done a lot of in the past. The landowner where I hunt turkeys said to come out to his place as he had a major creek running through his property as well as a pond full of bass. I've never been a 'bank' fisherman. As you can imagine, I got hooked real fast! I did well in the pond and am currently fishing in a reservoir not far from my home. I've done fairly well there as well including (which I will post elsewhere) a 21 inch, 5 lb. largemouth. Not hard to get hooked when you have one of those on your line! I have been looking for a bass fishing forum and browsed some posts here and the members seem friendly and helpful and I like your high standards for those who post. I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can and posting and making new friends. I am definitely hooked on bass fishing, it's a rush when you feel that tug and the line straightens and...well, you know what I mean! I also love to hunt deer and turkey and just love the outdoors!
  9. I just joined the forum and saw your post. I was having the same problem and here is what I came up with. I was using the Strike King Green Pumpkin work with a Texas rig. (3 0 offset hook). I had been catching some nice 14-15 inch bass but had a 'big one' on several times last week and had the same experience. I was reeling him in, thought I had set the hook but all of a sudden everything goes slack. So I go out Friday again hoping to latch onto him again. What I noticed was that I may have gotten sloppy with inserting the hook. I had the tip of the hook probably in the middle of the worm and assumed that a bass would bite through all of it and get set in his mouth. I watched a video the night before and the man said to put the hook all the way through and then insert it slightly back into the worm. That way it would be right there when he bit into the worm. I also had a Yamamoto worm that morning (green pumpkin) which is slightly more flexible and not as firm as the Strike King. To make a long story short, I hooked a 22 inch bass weighing approximately 5 lbs. and he never let go. I think he was the Mr. Big that I had missed several times. Same place, same weed patch. Hope this helps. It helped me and will be putting the hook through in the future. Let me know if it works for you!
