  1. Hey all, for fathers day I gave my dad a certificate to get a rod and reel so that we can fish together. The limitations are spinning only and an absolute max budget of $150. We would mostly be targeting LMB's, medium sized stripers, flounder, and possibly sea trout. What suggestions do y'all have?
  2. Thank you all for your input, I will take it into consideration. Tbh I never saw the Diawa rod on TW until now, and since I have heard such great words about it, I will try to find it in the store and hold it in my hands. Thanks again all!
  3. I am looking to buy a rod for frogging and flipping/ punching, and I am wondering which one will be the best of the four that I am looking at. Dobyns Fury Casting Rod 7'3" Mag Heavy Powell Inferno Casting Rod 7'2" Mag Heavy Frog Shimano Exage Casting Rod 7'2" Heavy St. Croix Bass X Casting Rod 7'4" Heavy They are all short because I simply don't want a long rod. Any suggestions???
  4. Thank you for all the input. I ended up buying a No. eight blackout 7'3" Med, Mod Fast, and I'm liking it so far.
  5. What about Med, mod fast, like a crank bait rod for at least cranks, jerks, and spinnerbaits?
  6. I just purchased a Lews baitcaster in 6.4:1 and am wanting to throw stuff like crank baits, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, chatter baits, buzz baits and the like. I am thinking along the lines of a Medium Fast. Any suggestions? Thanks, and happy Thanksgiving.
  7. The app "Sportstracker" has a paddling feature. It tells distance traveled, average speed, time, max speed, etc. I just want to know how far distances are on a new lake though.
  8. 90% of the time I fish from a kayak so I have to walk the dog with the rod parallel to the water. Rod length is not a problem, at least for me.
  9. I don't currently use this rod for topwater, its my spinnerbait/ soft plastic swimbait/ crankin' rod. I don't have the funds to buy one rod for every application and am trying to narrow my future arsenal down to 4 bait casters and one spinning rod for all techniques that I use most. I have this MH Mod rod and always heard that for topwater you are supposed to use a lighter rod so i thought that this possibly could be my topwater rod. I would be mostly throwing spooks (both jr and regular) and whopper ploppers.
  10. Thanks for the input Turkey Sandwich (gotta love me some turkey sandwiches ) The rod is Team KVD Quantum signature series casting (TKVD746MW). It says EGC on the side so I assume that means it is a glass composite because of the GC part. I am holding the rod normally for a bait casting rod, with the reel in my palm. I mainly throw KVD 1.0's and 1.5's and occasionally 2.5's. Ive never tuned them but they run straight. I can't seem to find it when I looked it up, (I made the purchase over the summer!) but the only reason I purchased it was because it was in the bargain cave at Cabela's (reg. $99 on sale for $39.99) I couldn't pass up a deal like that and thought that MH mod would be fine for lighter stuff and crankin' cause thats all they had left.
  11. I have a 7'4" MH moderate action rod and personally don't like the fact that I can't feel the crank bait vibration while reeling in. Is this normal and are you supposed to feel the wobble? Should I get a M fast for crankin'? Thanks
  12. I have a 7'4" MH, Moderate rod and am wondering if that is too flimsy for bing used as a topwater (walking baits) rod. Thanks
  13. I am a kayak fisher and I don't like to paddle extremely long distances to get to a spot on the lake and if so I want to know how long it will take me. Needless to say is there some way for me to place a pin and drag a route to calculate distance? Or even if there is just on that will show how long something from pin to pin. Thanks
