Have you found EWG ball jigs to be as effective for weedless tube rigging as the stupid rig?
Thanks!

Have you found EWG ball jigs to be as effective for weedless tube rigging as the stupid rig?
I have exhausted my search for a stupid tube jig that fits the short 2.75” fat tubes. At this point I’m facing either upsizing to something like Blue Rock’s 3.5” stupid rig or using a ball head EWG. If so, what size do you recommend for KVD 2.75” fat coffee tubes? Looking at these two brands, although leaning toward the BKK as it’s available in 1/4. Is 2/0 probably the best fit? https://discounttackle.com/products/owner-ultrahead-finesse-ball-jig-head https://discounttackle.com/products/bkk-silent-chaser-1x-ewg-round-head-hook

Do you believe river smallmouth stay between two riffles for most of their lives or do you think they can travel miles upstream to spawn?
Thanks friend, yeah I find spawn very frustrating too. It makes it even worse when everyone keeps reminding you about how it is supposed to be the “best time of the year.”

Does the width or “tightness” of a squarebill’s wobble have anything to do with how wide it searches from side to side or are these two separate actions?
Also, do they make any like this with a wider wobble?

I had been looking far and wide for the perfect crank and I think I finally found it in the Bill Lewis ATV 1.5. Perfect weight (1/2 oz) for the setup I want to throw it on, beautiful paint and craftsmanship, and still small and compact profile for river smallmouth. I got it in the water yesterday and while it casts beautifully, I noticed it has a much tighter wobble than most squarebills I’ve thrown. However, I am pretty sure it still searches left to right on retrieve, as I see my line go back and forth in the water. Just making sure this is the case, and in your experience, do you find any particular wobble more effective for river smallmouth?

Why is the Bill Lewis ATV 1.5 listed as 3/8 oz some sites & 1/2 oz on others?
Ordered and received, it is the correct one thank you! This is exactly what I wanted, 1/2 oz crankbait with a pretty paint job and a loud rattle chamber, in a variety of colors. Thanks again!! Kind of irritating they have it listed improperly everywhere.

Can you link me to the specific listing? Exactly yet see the poster above his packaging and personally weighing it say 1/2. Very stupid that this isn’t more clear, what is up with these companies.

Where did you order from? I am so confused on where to get, look at this on Amazon’s Bill Lewis store: https://www.amazon.com/Squarebill-Crankbait-Lifelike-Freshwater-Saltwater/dp/B0C3RXTL8Y/ref=mp_s_a_1_3

Oh ok, strange that a company as big as BPS would make this sort of error. Also irritating that I can’t seem to get ahold of Discount Tackle to confirm before placing an order.

https://discounttackle.com/products/bill-lewis-atv-squarebill This is listed as ATV 1.5 and 3/8. Mistyped you think?

No 1.0 is 1/4

Can anyone confirm which of these is accurate? TW and a *** review say 1/2 oz, BPS and Discount Tackle say 3/8.

In heavily stained water do you ever throw crank baits, and if so do you prefer straight chartreuse or chartreuse black back?
What do you consider extremely muddy? I’m not talking chocolate milk, more like 6” visibility or less.

What exactly do you mean high contrast?

I know they say brighter colors are more visible on hard plastic in stain, dark on soft but unsure of how it translates here. Traditionally I’ve thrown Jackhammers and Spinnerbaits but even the most steady retrieve rises slowly, wondering if a crank might not be a superior search bait in mud.

Do they make a casting rod that would allow me to easily throw a 3/8 oz squarebill as well as jackhammers/spooks/spinnerbaits?
Last q - could I possibly just put less line on my 200 to the same effect?

Do you believe river smallmouth stay between two riffles for most of their lives or do you think they can travel miles upstream to spawn?
This is an age old subject amongst bronze aficionados. I’ve heard countless respected anglers tout the “two riffles” narrative with confidence. I have also heard from equally respected anglers that they have caught smallmouth miles from their summer habitat during spawn. This makes me rethink everything I’ve learned. My gut tells me based on what I’ve seen and heard that they most certainly are capable of traveling great distances to feed up for spawn, typically to a large riffle or more often low head dam. The spawn takes a great deal of stress and energy and I think they will go where they know there is an abundance of food.

So those 150 sized reels can handle 1/2 oz spinners/chatters w trailer? Wondering if it’s really worth compromising spool capacity just to widen the variety of cranks I can throw. I like crank baits as search baits but it’s not my go to, and on my existing setup I have several 1/2 oz options (RK crawlers, Yozuri, etc.)

Appreciate it. So I guess now my question is do they make a reel that handles both heavy spinner/chatters and spooks as well as 3/8 cranks?

That’s just unusual that what is arguably the most popular well known casting reel is incapable of throwing the most popular well known crankbait.

So basically I’ll have to adjust it every time I switch baits

The question is would it be better than the Mojo using the same reel?

What about 12 lb mono since I use this for topwater as well? Would a Dobyns Fury/champion cast KVD 1.5s a lot better than the Mojo? What power would you go with?
