Is this deep enough for a smallmouth landing net?
Ok, does it need to be 17” deep? Is 12” too shallow?

Is there a minimum depth that the net needs to be for smallmouth? Like is 11” too shallow?

How do you mount the bearclaw? Looks like it would be tough to store, I was kinda looking for something I could drop in a flush mounted rod holder behind my seat. Yeah that one looks good, does it need to be at least 13” deep? I was also looking at this one, only 11.8” deep though. https://www.amazon.com/PLUSINNO-Floating-Steelhead-Foldable-Transportation/dp/B08C2CJ9XT

Is this deep enough for a smallmouth landing net?
I’m aware, I’m telling you I mostly kayak and wade fish and wanted a shorter handle. Is there no option for kayak/wade fishermen?

EGO Blackwater Trout Net Only 11” deep, I really like it but I’ve read that you want a bass net to be 16” deep minimum. Wasn’t sure if that was for largies or smallies. If not how big does it need to be, any recommendations? I have been catching some bigger fish in the 17-19” range lately, and so have decided to get a net. Thanks!

What is the best soft plastic craw?
What size/type ned head, weed less or reg?

What is the best soft plastic craw?
Would this do well on a ned rig? How would this work, wouldn’t it be facing up in the defensive position and so invite less strikes?

Have you found the magic number to be 55 or do you think river/creek smallmouth bite in any water temps above 50?
I fish the deep holes at the bottom of the current ?

Best sized spinnerbait for creek/river smallmouth?”
I’ve thrown lures before, just never consistently as I’ve had much more success with live. When I first started smallmouth fishing, I used ned rigs, rooster tails, soft plastic craws, and tube jigs but just wasn’t getting the results I wanted. Now I’m ready to commit to it. I still intend to use live but this will give me a lot more flexibility for being able to fish spur of the moment. Additionally, there are times when live bait is just not ideal, like when I was out this weekend and the water was still high and fast. My minnow presentation was just horrible, they were floating on their side quickly downstream and dying after one cast. Burning a spinnerbait or swim bait through the current would’ve been much more effective. Still managed to get one on the nest though! https://ibb.co/fMRCTJm

What size were you using of that

So you think 3/16 is way too small?

Best sized spinnerbait for creek/river smallmouth?”
Gotcha, so for 3-10 ft of water willow/Colorado is best?
-
Best sized spinnerbait for creek/river smallmouth?”
I heard someone say once that they preferred double willow for creeks/rivers since the water was more clear. What exactly is the logic there?
-
Best sized spinnerbait for creek/river smallmouth?”
Do I want double willow or single willow with Colorado front for rivers/creeks?

What do you think is the ideal rod length for creek/river smallmouth fishing?
And you fish creeks with that?

Are baitcasters tough in creeks?

What do you think is the ideal rod length for creek/river smallmouth fishing?
See I was thinking of going bigger to get further casting distance on bigger water. I’ve found 6 ft to be the perfect size for creek fishing.

Best sized spinnerbait for creek/river smallmouth?”
Yup got a white War Eagle finesse with the Colorado front and turtle back, 1/4 oz in my Cabela’s cart. Is white generally regarded as the best all around color for smallies?

Best sized spinnerbait for creek/river smallmouth?”
Isn’t that too small for the bigger smallies?

What do you think is the ideal rod length for creek/river smallmouth fishing?
I bounce between various size creeks (50-75 feet across) and a couple of normal sized rivers (100+ yards across.) As I have only recently branched out to larger bodies of water, up to this point I have only used a 6 ft St. Croix Premier spinning rod because the smaller creeks/streams have a lot of low hanging vegetation and branches. I am also looking to get into lure fishing as well, up to this point I have almost exclusively used live bait. Would it benefit me to go a bit longer, and how much and for what sized water? Lastly, what length for lure fishing vs live? Thanks!

No one said you didn’t know anything about catching smallies, but this post was clearly referring to creek/stream fishing as large rivers don’t really have current breaks and riffles like creeks do, hence why we were talking about them being concentrated at the current breaks. Larger rivers have much deeper, cooler water that holds oxygen better and so yes they relate to structure more. Bigger rivers are essentially a lake ecosystem and completely different from creek/stream smallmouth fishing.

Lol not all fish have the same feeding habits, catfish and carp are unusually tolerant of stagnant, low oxygen water. White Bass and Stripers seem to favor slower moving water as well, same with largemouth. They can all be found at dams but they don’t require current or even necessarily prioritize it the way smallmouth do. Why do you keep saying wing dam? I never said dams were the only place you can find them, this is about current in any form, and 99% of active smallmouth can be found there.
