  1. Cool video! I haven't seen one of those in years. Still remember my grandad had one on his boat when I used to fished with him as a kid 40+ yrs ago. Thanks for sharing. ?
  2. How are you fishing the shallow cranks? When the water warms up in late spring & summer, I have my best luck burning a shallow crank with sporadic pauses. Something about burning the bait for 2-5 cranks then pausing for *** seconds can really trigger strikes. You gotta mix it up too. Crank the handle super fast for 2 revolutions, then pause. Super fast for 5 revolutions, then pause. And so on. They hit it on the pause, and sometimes they absolutely hammer it. I've had em knock a few ft of slack in my line. I've had really great success doing this in 2-5 ft of water in the middle of summer on some grassy lakes I fish. And it's accounted for my 2 biggest fish in the past yr. Works great with a Baby 1-, KVD 1.5, BPS Egg, etc. All cranks that only go 1-2 ft deep. These super shallow divers stay outta the grass mostly and don't get fouled by the weeds nearly as much.
  3. Wish I'd known this thread existed, would've posted sooner. This is not my PB but very close to it. Still trying to break 10 lbs. This girl weighed 9'4" and was just at 24" in length. Caught her last Saturday on a 6th Sense shallow crank.
  4. Remember, you can't have everything...... where would you put it.
  5. Thanks everybody. This is prob the 2nd biggest I've ever caught. Still trying to catch one that is 10+ which isn't easy to do in MS, especially fishing smaller waters outta a 12 ft jon boat. But I've gotten close a few times. Hoping to get a replica made once I accomplish the goal.
  6. That's a Viscious Fishing logo in the eye.
  7. ??? I'm glad I wasn't drinking a beverage when I read this.
  8. Wow! That's impressive. I must admit, I'm a scrounger dabbler by your standards. ? But youre right, I only use the long bill too & also fish em slow & steady, kinda like a swimbait.
  9. Took off work yesterday & fished, then fished again today at one of my fav small lakes. I've been dying to try one of the 6th Sense cranks I got during the holidays. Had a pretty good 2 days with about 30 bass total. Caught a few on a Baby 1- also, but the 3 biggest all came on the Movement 80x crank. Caught a 3'15", a 4 lbs even, and then this beauty this evening. She weighed 9'4" and was 24" long. Released back to the water. Needless to say, I'm digging this 6th Sense shallow crank. EDIT: Decided to add a little info on the crank. Let me preface this by saying that I usually have really good luck at this lake burning & pausing a Baby 1-. This 6th Sense crank has a wide wobble & a lot of thump. I mean a lot! Kinda makes it hard to burn, so I was having best results using a medium retrieve with sporadic pauses. On 15 lb Invisx, I'd say the bait ran about 2 - 2.5 ft deep. Thanks to fellow angler & bass resource member Dennis (who I just met on water today) for being there & was nice enough to get a few photos. Sorry Dennis, I don't remember your user name or I would tag you.
  10. I've used Scrounger heads quite a bit & never had that problem. Mostly use the 1/8 & 3/16 oz, but have used a 1/4 oz few times too. I usually use a Lake Fork Live Magic Shad on them. What soft plastic trailer were you using? Maybe that was the issue. If you had it rigged on straight, not sure what the problem might be.
  11. Local Academy Sports has 300 yd spools of 10 lb and 20 lb power pro on sale for $10. It's normally $13 for a 150 yd spool.
  12. I couldn't agree more. I'm becoming a big fan of some of the Academy house brand hard baits. For $5 or less they are hard to beat & come with some decently sharp VMC hooks. Best part, I don't mind so much if I break off one of these cranks on a submerged log. For soft plastics I'm all about Zoom. Good quality & value and they flat out catch fish.
  13. They work pretty well if not too windy. Had a buddy who was big time hunter recommend it. They're not too bad money wise either if you can find the refills on sale at WalMart.
  14. Invest in a Thermocell. I've had good results with mine even on hot summer evenings at dusk when the skeeters get really thick. I always have bug spray with around 40% DEET as backup tho. ?
  15. I don't think we have enough pitching to make it too far. It's killing us that 5 of our pitchers are out with TJ surgery. Maybe next yr. Seems like the story of our lives as State fans, lol. Too bad Rooker most likely will be gone.
  16. Mental health care in this country is a complete joke. The only way to get decent help for mental health is through private counseling, etc. And who can afford that when insurance isn't involved. Although you would think Chris Cornell could've afforded it. Soundgarden is prob my fav band from the Seattle 90s scene. Pearl Jam 2nd. Really sad cause Cornell could sing like no tomorrow. I've been listening to Lithium channel last 2 days & they've been playing a lot of Cornell's stuff. Today they were playing some old in studio interview & Chris Cornell was playing some live acoustic sets. Incredible stuff. I hate I didn't go see Soundgarden when they played in Memphis a few weeks ago. I'm too old for Sunday night concerts at 10:30.
  17. P.S. We might actually have a good team if we could pitch. Good grief. ?
  18. Two words...... Corn Dog. Yeah, I'm a MSU fan & graduate. That was good game last night. Wish we could've hit Lange better. ?
  19. You guys must be walking your poppers different than I do. When I walk a skitter pop, KVD splash, Pop R, etc. I walk it in a more gentle approach. They walk well for me and I do get a little spitting & splashing, but nothing extreme. Plus, this more subtle approach works better for me 90% of the time. There are times I'll work it more aggressive, like when it's windy. But on calmer days, the subtle approach can be great. Spook and cigar style walking baits track so far left & right, to me it's a bit less subtle for lack of a better word. Granted I haven't tried the PopX or Popmax, but I catch fish fine with what I'm using & doing. Don't see the need to buy a more expensive popper. EDIT: Guess I should add that's what make poppers so great. You can work em so many ways & still be successful. They've quickly become my go to topwater in the last few years.
  20. The question I answered was why would you want a popper style bait to walk.
  21. It's a more subtle walking action & a lotta times it gets more bites. I can't buy a bite on a few lakes with a spook, but for some reason they kill a walking popper. It def looks more like an injured baitfish than a traditional cigar shaped walking bait.
  22. Netbait and Castaic both make a split belly swimbait. I've used both with keel weighted swimbait hooks and they work well.
  23. Well, I didn't come by it easy. Took me practicing most of one summer a few years ago to get decent at it. I started with a skitter pop which is a little tougher since you tie directly to the bait. I use a 6'8" M spinning rod with braid. Was using 10 lb power pro, but respooled with 20 lb a few weeks ago to give it a try. It's a little more manageable under breezy conditions. The academy popper actually walks a little easier since it's got a split ring for tying line. It still takes me a few mins to get the hang of it if I've been using one brand of popper for a while then switch to a different one. The KVD splash is quite a bit heavier than a balsa skitter pop. My twitches are more subtle to get the KVD splash to walk.
  24. I can walk a KVD splash. And a skitter pop, a pop R and even cheapo poppers from Academy.
