New To Shaky Jig Head Fishing For LMB:
I bank fish with shaky heads quite a bit. I've had good luck with the Owner ultra shaky head and the Picasso shakedown in the 1/16 and 1/8 oz sizes.

Good soft body swimbaits
Uhhhh. That looks good. Which swimbait is that? Might have to get me some of that!

Rage Tail Craw vs. Zoom Ultra Vibe Speed Craw vs. V&M Wild Thang Craw
I'm a big fan of the Zoom ultra vibe craws also. The magnum speed craw works great on a shaky head or as a topwater.

Help me identify this crankbait
Best place I've found for Bomber square As is also Walmart, but haven't looked in a while. They were good about marking em down to a couple bucks fairly regularly. Bass Pro carries them too.

Fluke,in muddy water
Yeah, this is what I was envisioning when he said muddy water. Better have something with a thump like a spinnerbait or chatterbait if in search mode in muddy water. But that fluke sure can be money when fishing around sparse grass & flooded bushes if you know they're there. ?

What do you do for a living?
Analytical chemist. Not the most fun job in the world, but it's ok.

Error for Video Playback
Anybody else having problems playing the videos on here? For quite a few weeks now, my iPhone will not play any video content from this site. I always get a message saying error loading media. It's weird, the videos used to work fine on my phone. And it's only on this site that it seems to be an issue.

Let's not forget the T-Rig Worm
This is something I wanna try this summer. I'm thinking an 8" Zoom Dead Ringer might be killer on a swinging head.

Fluke,in muddy water
As stated, I always do better with flukes when the water is not muddy. A little color & stain is fine, but there are better lure choices for truly muddy water.

Veg cutting braid
I like original Power Pro. The sound doesn't bother me. I use 30 lb for my frogging & fluke fishing around vegetation. Works fine for me. Seems to cut thru grass & the smaller lily pads fairly well. Now the big giant lilies with the thick stems is another story. Not sure what would cut thru that except maybe that braid WRB is talking about.

To All My Memphis Pond Hoppers!
Snuck out after dinner and hit a local pond before dark. Caught 4 including these 2 big ones. One was prob around 5 and the other had to be close to 7. It was really long. Everything hit an Academy popper really close to the banks. Not bad for about an hr of fishing.

Old Fishing Line: Feeling Nostalgic
Well, that was kinda said tongue in cheek. I def believe people caught fish with that line. Back in those days it meant supper for the table I'd bet. Like you said, we get it pounded into our brains that the fish are skittish & line shy. I think there might be rare occasions when that's somewhat true, but a lotta days it doesn't matter at all.

Big bass are smarter?
@slonezp and @Mosster47 you guys both bring up fair and valid points. And you're right, my experience draws from fishing small waters where conditioning of bass is much more drastic than on a large body of water like Guntersville, Clear Lake or Toledo Bend. But I'm in MS, we're not known for huge bodies of water, lol. And I don't tourney fish so my experience is limited in that realm as well. But I would think that even on large bodies of water that some conditioning of bass in regards to artificials can happen, although to a much lesser degree and probably in only selective areas of the lake that get hammered the most by anglers. I also agree that there are prob a lotta big fish that have never seen a lure. Which is why guys really good with the electronics can find em & catch em. I think @Paul Roberts summed it up very well in his post above.

Old Fishing Line: Feeling Nostalgic
Yeah, it really was bad. I had forgotten all about it cause I only used once, maybe twice at most, before taking it back off my reel. I now remember how excited I was to try it after reading and hearing stuff about it. But it never worked as claimed. It never would lay on the spool correctly and would twist. Seems like my casting distance stunk & I was constantly digging out small bird's nests.

Scrounger Jigs?
They work. I haven't had the best luck with the bigger scrounger heads, but the 3/16 and 1/4 oz have worked well for me using small swimbaits.

BPS Double Down Plopper??? And I was Going To Buy Another WP 130
I'm still trying to catch something decent on my Whopper Plopper. I haven't fished it a whole lot, but have only managed 2 dinks so far.

- Big bass are smarter?
But the catch rates are lower at Guntersville. There was an article (one of those photo gallery type articles) on Bassmaster's website in 2016 discussing just that. I don't think the pressure has died down there because people keep seeing the pros catching em from the various tournament coverages. At least that's my theory anyway. ? I would venture to guess that a large portion of those average Joes that flood Guntersville every year also have unproductive fishing trips. At least compared to the standards of what we see caught on TV. As as far trophies being caught at all the lakes you mentioned, that still doesn't statistically prove that catch rates overall have not decreased. Just saying. I'm not trying to argue & I think we're actually on the same page. I really don't think big bass are smarter. I think they might be more conditioned & perhaps less likely to hit certain artificial baits. I mean to me, it logically makes sense. The bigger a bass, the older it is. The older it is, the more it's likely to have seen artificial lures & the more conditioned it is. Like I said earlier I dunno for sure. At the end of the day most of what we're discussing is guesswork, although somewhat educated guesswork. But I stand by my statement that big bass are harder to catch. But that's part of what makes fishing more fun. Sure wouldn't mean near as much to me if I could go out & catch 10 pounders every trip like they were dinks.- bank fishing-what to look for?
Don't worry about going too fast with a lipless crank when the weather is warm. Some of my best days have been burning a SK Redeye Shad or Rattle Trap as fast as I can with the occasional 1-2 sec pause. That being said, might still be chilly where you're located.- Old Fishing Line: Feeling Nostalgic
Well, now we know why it was discontinued. Lol. I used it for 3-4 yrs and never had any issues. Thing I remember was that it was a lot more sensitive than what I was previously using. I think you're right. It was Stren. It's starting to kinda come back to me as well. It seems like it wasn't completely flat but more of an oblong oval shape like was already mentioned. I just remember I hated it. But I sure bought into all the marketing & had to buy some.- Old Fishing Line: Feeling Nostalgic
Hey @RoLo check this out. I googled vintage linen fishing line. Cool stuff. Wish I could remember the name of it & who made it. I vaguely remember trying it. It was so bad I took it back off my reel after only 1 fishing trip. It sure had some good sounding marketing tho. Wasn't it supposed to lie flat & reduce tangles for greater cast distance, yada, yada, yada. In the words of Charles Barkley, that stuff was turrible. Just turrible.- Old Fishing Line: Feeling Nostalgic

My advice..... find a much smaller body of water to fish. Reservoirs aren't the best for bank fishing. Find some small ponds in public parks, etc that allow fishing. These usually have much better access & are much easier to fish. Google maps is great for locating spots like this. - Big bass are smarter?
