phisoreel. I get the opportunity of fishing a lot for large bass in timber and each line I try gets a workout. I break off hunderds of time a year and the quality and strength of a line is very apparent under those conditions. The first Samurai I tried was the 30# rated and it was very apparent as compared to the other 30# rated superlines I was using such as Stren Superbraid, Power Pro, etc that it was not as strong. The Samurai is 6# mono equivelent diameter and the others are 8# mono equivelent diameter. I can break the Samurai quite easily in comparison and have never straighted out a hook like with the other lines. Now I just use the 30# for more open water situations and smaller potential fish. The 40# Samurai is the same diameter as the 30# rated other superlines. This is the stuff I fish the most and the known lake record largemouth is 16# 2 oz.

philsoreel, with Power Pro that is a true, BUT the Daiwa lines are label rated close to their actual breaking strength and most of the other superlines are not.

carrington, yes they are and you will have no problem using a baitcaster with them. They are similar in thickness to winter golf gloves and water resistant which keeps water spray from soaking them like happens with other gloves. They breath like Goretex so they are a lot better then neoprene gloves. The black color absorbs heat from the sun to help keep your hands somewhat warmer. They don't do well for boat driving in freezing temps, but you asked about FISHING gloves. That same company has a model with insulation and a pocket on the back for inserting the chemical hand warmers. I use the insulated ones over the Hyperlites when not fishing. I've tried most of what has been suggested and none of them come close to their performance.

A friend of mine has the Delorme 40 and hunting is his thing. We did some ATV trips in West Va and his GPS was very accurate with trails and topo.

philsoreel, you won't like the 15# Samurai because it will not have much shock strength. That is why I switched from the 30# to 40# for finesse presentations. I doubt a 6# or 8# strength will be marketed. You can get that performance at any sewing thread supplier.

I don't know and don't care. I only put on about 30 yards of the line that I use for fishing. The rest of the spool is just filler with some junk line I have. The reel size I use the most for bass fishing is the 2500.

Excellent advice Rino. The fuze holder and fuse is available at Radio Shack. In the marine environmnet the capped style (as pictured) is the best. The holders for the round glass fuses have a tendency to break from temp changes, ozone, and the spring inside will get weak and cause low voltage problems with the unit. Mosture gets inside of them too just adding to the problems that can occur.

The most important "brake" on a baitcaster is the spool tenion knob on the handle side of the reel.

Stealth is not noisy. It has a coating on it that makes it stiff. It performs well on baitcasting equipment and is easier to get untangled when the dreaded "semi-professional overrun" occurs. It is my choice in 50# for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and Chatterbaits.

Way2slow, the track/trail is not any part of the mapping and will be as accurate as the unit's capability. The mapping is an overlay on the plotter screen that the waypoints and tracks are shown whether a map is displayed or not. The mapping software is where some are experiencing errors. Your post is the second one I have seen you mentioning a HDI unit. When did you get an HDI series unit? I've only seen or heard of HDS units by Lowrance.

philsoreal, have you ever heard of Spectra Fibers that Spiderwire and Power Pro are made of? Spectra and Dyneema are the two modern fibers that superlines are made of. Most of the very flexible superlines are made of Spectra. The stiffer superlines are made of Dyneema and the fused (not braided) superlines are made of Dyneema. Power Pro and Spiderwire have the course weave construction with 4 stands in the weave and that couseness causes the noise in the rod guides. The newer issues of braids have more strands in the weave, are softer and less course so they are not as noisy in the rod guides. The older Suffix is in the same class as Power Pro and Spiderwire. The newer Y6 Suffix is Dyneema and an in-between line as far as smoothness. The newer higher 8 strand count weaves like Daiwa Samura, Dawia Saltiga, Fireline Braid, and Suffix 832 will be quieter. The Daiwa braids are more honest in the lable strength rating so to equal the actual breaking strength of other superlines, you need to use a higher pound test rated Daiwa. The best way to judge the line strength comparisions is to go by the line diameter. An example is Daiwa Samurai 40# is 8# mono equivelent diameter and Spiderwire or Power Pro 30# is 8# mono equivelent diameter. The mfg cost of making the higher thread count weaves is why the newer lines cost more--they are worth it. You choices are (cheap and outdated) or (more costly and new).

If the reel spool has holes in it, wrap the arbor with teflon tape before installing the line. That will keep most of the water out of the inside.
