  1. I fish a big pond that has a ton of shad in it but I don't have a cast net. Does anybody have a different method of catching shad or do bait shops sell them?
  2. I will try the grub!
  3. I'm in very beach Florida right now:)
  4. I'm fishing from the bank. The water is pretty murky and there's not a lot of structure.
  5. I've been using bread to catch bluegill lately but the tilapia constantly get in the way. I need a better way to catch the bluegill. I was wondering if anybody could help.
  6. I have some 2/0 wide gaps. Are they the same concept as a circle hook? Do you set the hook with them?
  7. Thanks!
  8. What hooks should I use circle or baitholder?
  9. Thanks for this info!
  10. Yep that's probably what I'm doing wrong! And yes I know you should set the hook with a circle hook. It's just the thought of not getting a good hook set that gets to me. I throw a bunch of bread out and that's what brings the bluegill in and then the bass come in. The bass will sit there for 5-10 minutes just staring at the bluegill lol but they always take it. Go check out video on my instagram at _bhox_ I know the bass takes the bluegill down head first but does that mean I should still hook it behind the anal fin so that it hooks the bass in the corner of the mouth? Because if I hooked the bluegill in the lips then it would have to turn back around in the basses mouth.
  11. I occasionally use live bluegill as bait and I have/haven't had much success. I have lost three 5+ lb bass and I think it's because I'm am Hooking the bluegill wrong. Generally I will use 3-4" bluegill so the bass can handle it. The hooks I am using are gamakatsu 4/0 circle hooks and the way I hook the bluegill is right behind the anal fin. I let the bass run with the bluegill for 15-30 seconds. Do the bass have to stop to fully consume the bluegill? -Ben
  12. I like to use a neko rig, jig, senko, shakey head, etc. there are a lot of lures that work for river smallies!
  13. Ok thanks for the info! The bass in one of the ponds that I fish devour baitfish on the surface!
  14. Cool. The pond that I cought that fish out of has some big fish in it. Hopefully I'll get lucky and find that 7-10lb bass on it's bed!
  15. Yes i am. Water temp is 70-73 degrees and I have noticed that the bass are schooling up.
  16. I just caught a 3 pounder out of a pond I fish in vero beach Florida and it had a bloody tail does that mean it was making a bed? After I cought the bass I realized that the line guide on my shimano metanium Was loose and rattling around. Is there a way to tighten it?
  17. Yah the only cover in the ponds are reeds.
  18. Ok thanks for the info! I love throwing the topwater buzzbaits in the Florida ponds! I've already caught two five pounders on jigs and senkos and I hope to catch more!
  19. I'm staying in vero beach Florida with my grandparents for a month and I have a few questions. There are a couple ponds that I fish in the area and I've measured the water temperature. The temperatures were around 70-73 degrees and the bass were schooling up. Does that mean they could be in pre spawn mode? I am also wondering what baits I should try to using. Another question I have is if any kind of topwater baits would work this time of year. That's all. Thanks
