Baitcaster Casting Problems
a couple of pointers. for a overhead cast the most common problem is people "chop" the line off and then don't stop the spool soon enough, results bird house. you have to follow through just like with a golf swing come all the way over and point the tip of the rod at the spot you want to cast to. set the spool tension until the lure or casting plug barely spools off and stops with the rod held level and the lure hits the ground the spool stops. if you have a magnetic control start at mid range and as you improve you can loosen things up for a longer cast. another thing when casting overhead rotate your hand till the reel is on its side this way the spool will set against the side and not "float" like it does holding it level.......remember follow through ...never change directions of the rod once you start or you will back lash. before you know it you will develope a "sixth sense" and be able to feel how hard you can cast under different conditions......hope this helps Slug-go's rule....Danny

reel
i have three of the bass pro shop extreme reels and i'm very pleased with them. i've owned just about every brand reel out there in 45 years of fishing a lot of it depends on what feels good to you, go somewhere where you can put it on a rod and see how it feels, some shops will spool it for you so you can try it out before you buy, i used to do that at the shop i worked at but there is not many of those left anymore. good luck.....Danny Slug-go's rule

Just joined - Worst Bass fisherman of all time
hello i live south of DC also, i'm down in st marys county maryland and i have a local 250 acre lake that will let you catch a bass, stay in touch and we'll go. i also fish several places in virginia, believe me we will cure you of the non-catching-syndrom. all you will have to bring is your tackle i have one boat here and two in virginia beach. everyone has a bad strech now and again and it doesn't mean you are a bad fisherman, if your fishing your not bad. i've had days i didn't catch anything and i've had days i fished hard all day and only got one small fish and thought i was terrible and i get back to the boat ramp and talk to other fisherman and they didn't catch anything so then my one fish looked pretty good. i'm 53 years old and i've been bass fishing since i was 6 years old and believe me they have been bad days and bad streches but i just put them behind me and go out the next time believing i'm going to have the best day ever. this is the best sport in the world and it changes all the time and there is always something more to learn, hang in there and we'll catch some fish.....have a nice Christmas Danny "Slug-go's rule"

I grew up in western NC and fished for smallmouth in lake Lure, and at present i'm living just south of washington DC and fish the Potomac river and also some lakes and rivers in virginia. once agin just wanted to say hello and to thank you for the great website. Good luck Fishing......Danny Freeman, Dameron, Md. ;D
