  1. Well I think I'm already going to have a problem mounting it this location... I just measured the area where I place my arrow and its 2 1/2 inches top to bottom of the hull angle, which will allow the transducer to hang well below the hull.. Top of the transducer bracket to bottom of transducer is 3 1/2 ... How much of the transducer is allowed to hang below the hull ?
  2. Ok now will the water outlet on the front of the hull in that same location create a problem ? or should I locate it to the left side ?
  3. Hi Wayne, Thanks for the reply ! So I should install it on the step, Ok got it. Now how far from the rib and center should it be from where my arrow is place in the picture ? : Also in that same location there is a water outlet in the front of the boat for the front livewell before the curve up of the hull, so should I consider installing on the left side : ? Thanks
  4. Hey guys, I am going to do the install of my new Garmin echMap 73sv very soon and would like to know the correct location to have the transducer, It is very large as its the GT40-TM SideVu / DownVu. I never had good readings at any speed more than 5 - 10 MPH with my current one, so I want to make sure I locate it in the right place the first time !! This is the current location of the old one still on the boat, Looks like its almost in the middle of those ribs but its closer to the rib on the right.
  5. Wayne is the man !! Thank you for all your help in understanding the world of sonar, you are a wealth of knowledge that made my purchase much easier ! I was able to figure out exactly what I will need and not need and why.
  6. Well I found a location on my boat that I think will work perfect ! I ordered RAM - 111U-D Its like the one in my last picture and made of aluminum.
  7. This could also be an option, and I think it would give me more flexibility in location.
  8. Yes these are RAM mounts.
  9. I was thinking one of these maybe on the right side of the console ? Or maybe this one mounted where the cup hold is ?
  10. I have a Lowrance Elite DSI on the front trolling motor now, The Garmin is replacing the old X4 that's in the picture.
  11. Hey guys, I have no idea where I am going to mount my new Garmin echoMap 73 sv. Its much larger than my current one. I have a Lowe Stinger 170w bass boat and there isn't much room so I was going to pick up a Ram mount but I have no idea where to put it ?? In this picture I have my small lowrance to the left but the Garmin will be to large to go there. Also what Ram mount do you recommend ?
  12. I ended up with the Garmin echoMap 73sv from bass pro on sale $499 !
  13. Well I picked up my new unit from BPS and I flopped from the Striker back to the Garmin echomap 73sv lol.... for $499 plus a $50 triple crown Bonus cash card and triple points + free installation ! The reason I went with the echoMap was in the long run I was better off with the mapping more than I thought after another 30 min chat with the sales guy lol.. Glad Im done with this venture ! Now got to wait for the snow to melt so I can get back out there fishing .
  14. Yes thats right. Thats why Im getting the Striker as I dont need the mapping. But still a very good deal if CHIRP isnt a deal breaker.
  15. Just checked the Bass Pro flyer and the Garmin Echomap 73sv goes on sale tomorrow @ $499 comes with 17000 lake maps ! You may want to look into that !!
  16. Yeah like I said for the money $499 you cant go wrong and you have BOTH CHIRP DI & SI that I dont see in other models. That Helix 7 you are taliking about looks very nice but is around $799 !! You can get what you are talking about with the Garmin EchoMap CHIRP 73sv also for less money I believe. Looks to be same as Striker but with Maps. I was looking at this also but dont need the maps. Garmin gives both DI & SI I think is a big advantage !
  17. Yes, after hours of talking to Bass Pro guys and help from everyone on here ( and flip flopping around between units lol ) .. I am going to get the Garmin Striker 7sv It has CHIRP down and side imaging "clearVU" + GPS " without mapping " just way points can be marked and thats fine for my use. I believe this is the best bang for buck on a CHIRP SI DI GPS unit you can buy. Love that it has BOTH DI & SI !! I havent seen another unit that has this for the money..
  18. Sorry !! Forgive my inexperience with terms "New to all this " LOL I should have said "traditional sonar vs CHIRP" "" I just edited the post ""
  19. Hey guys, I dont need an entire explanation on the difference between the 2, Just the travel speed between them with SI . Is it true you cant get a good reading when cruising with Traditional sonar but you can with CHIRP ?
  20. Now whats the difference between The Srtiker and the Echomap besides mapping ?? This all so much to absorb when trying to make the best buy LOL.
  21. So this unit has Down and side imaging ?
  22. Thought my mind was made up on a Humminbird Helix but found I can get a great deal on this Garmin Striker 7sv and its peaked my interest https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/528825 Its a bigger screen and has side imaging, Anyone offer some insite on this model or knows more about it ? Thanks!
  23. This was a great video thanks for posting !
  24. I hear you on that, I know SI could be a very valuable tool if you know what your are looking at ( I currently dont lol ) Do you think SI is more valuable than GPS with my use on small lakes and canals ? Its a big expense for me so I want to get everything I will need out of it and not wish I would have got something different after.
