Another tidal waterway, The Chickahominy River
I fished the chick a couple weeks ago and the action was slow due to really high tides. I started thinking of other ways to fish, and I started vertical jigging with my spinnerbait. The water was quite deep at the time and I ended up hooking a striper. Almost got him in the boat. Anyone else fish for stripers here and have success?

Headed to Chickahominy River this weekend
Yes, I fished up by the dam the entire time. We tried some creeks to no avail. We didn't see any activity nor boats back in the creeks. Normally, we spend ample time in the creeks, but it just seemed like all the action was on the main river. We threw worms, flukes, senkos, spinnerbaits, rattle traps and probably a couple other types of lures. We saw some boats heading in up by the dam mid-day Saturday. Perhaps that was the VA BASS tournament you are referring to. Everyone in our tournament (small among friends type) hardly caught any fish until low tide which was around 1:30 to 3:00 ish.

Headed to Chickahominy River this weekend
Well, it was a tough weekend of fishing on the chic. Caught one bass on worm by the dam and another on white spinnerbait up by the dam as well. Overall, the fish were mostly on lockdown with very small windows of active feeding. Oh well, that is how fishing goes sometimes. On a more positive note, we didn't have to deal with any major rainstorms.

Chickahominy river this weekend
Well, Thursday of last week was pretty good for my friends with Pop-Rs although I didn't get out that day. We did go out Friday and the morning was slow, and the evening was dead. The water was so high that I think we could not locate any fish. Saturday morning after the tide went out a bit, things picked up. We tossed white spinnerbaits, worms, and senkos and caught some fish. Several of my friends lost good sized fish (fish spit the hook out). So things ended on a good note considering the weather we just had. Also, the further we went up river, the more the water was stained.

Chickahominy river this weekend
Howdy, any thoughts on what the Chic river might be like this weekend with the colder temps? Sounds like Thursday is rainy, Friday is windy, and Saturday is calm but cooler. Not sure if the cooler weather is enough to snap them into a pattern of sluggishness or not..? Thanks!

The Dogwoods Have Bloomed in Richmond!!!
Fished the Chickahominy last weekend and the fishing was tough for everyone. They had a big tournament there over the weekend and the mornings were in the high 30's temps. Our boat caught four fish all weekend. We decided to try live bait and that made up for two of the four fish. One was a heavy sow bass at around 8 lbs. That was a nice highlight.

The Dogwoods Have Bloomed in Richmond!!!
No specific plans to go to the dam area, but may end up there. Do you recommend that area? What is best strategy for bass on beds? I'm guessing soft baits like lizards, but not sure. Thanks

I'm headed down that way this weekend (to fish the Chickahominy). These temperatures are a bit cold for this time of year. Do any of you think it will cause the bass fishing to be tougher?

Advice for Chickahominy Lake
How often are the Chickahominy GMCO maps updated? Anyone know? I looked on Amazon and it doesn't indicate how up to date the maps are. Thanks
