  1. I used to fish a pond as a teen that only had bass, there was nothing else stocked. You would think if the ponds are a few years old, the gill should be pretty large by now, will make for plenty of fun.
  2. Thanks. I just found the conodoguinet creek and we've been having good luck there. Nothing large but we consistantly catch fish.
  3. Me too. I wish they did a better job of differentiating their products. All the manufactures. What is the difference in the plus other than $3 and less gloss?
  4. I don't have one of these yet but I hope to get one to try out. I do have a cheap ABU orra sx combo. It is okay, not great. I've had some problems with it and I find it doesn't cast very far and I do have problems with backlash. I had a rod tip come apart after a few days and some times the spool release catches during cast. I don't know if this is common on all the cheaper stuff. From what I can see the dual brakes on the kastking help greatly prevent backlash and they cast far. It's worth a mention that while $60 might be cheap compared to some reels, I only paid $79 shipped for my combo. I've also had trouble trying to understand the cost for value of many of the other brands. Is a $50 reel much different from a $75? Is there a point where they become "good"?
  5. There is about 200' or so left on the spool. I already have more braid so I was hoping to just top it off. What would the reason be to pull the current braid off and back fill with something else?
  6. I had an unfortunate incident this weekend and my spool of braid is running low. Is it possible to tie more braid on? I've never tied a leader and I'm unsure what knots to try. I've seen a uni knot, is there something else? I need at least 100 feet additional line added
  7. I've had pretty good luck simply cranking the chatterbait back in or fishing it more like a jig and bouncing it off the bottom, letting it chatter on the pull.
  8. Mechanicsburg, about 20 minutes south of Harrisburg
  9. Yes Hydrilla looks like it. I'll give the crawls a shot. Thanks everyone. I have not experimented with flukes, I have some but never fished. I'll throw them on too.
  10. I'm a bit nervous about just knocking on someones door to ask. We have a lot of ponds around here in PA but they are all private. Do you all find people are generally willing to let you fish? Do you just drive up and ask if it would be okay to fish their ponds? Do you look for ponds that are further from houses so you're not bothering them? Curious what you have found works and maybe what to not do.
  11. I've tried using several types of frogs, booya green, black and red strip, buzz toad, lunker hunt. The areas that seem like they would be prime frog ponds, no bites at all. We have been having relatively hot weather here the last month or so and I just started fishing again. I think I am retreiving them correctly. I try to "pop" them once or twice, some times a more steady twitch retrieve. I've also used buzz baits in more open ponds with no luck. I'll give pitching another try, I have a few types of crawl baits. Maybe that will be the ticket. Oh I've been trying pinchot, not on a boat though. It's me and the kids normally and I find fishing the shore to be a nitemare, it's too over grown most places.
  12. Hey all. Most of my local ponds are completely full of vegetation this time of year. It's not grass, it sort of looks mossy or like christmas tree branches, I don't know what it is called. All I know is it grabs onto everything except frogs. The problem is, that I try and try and can't get frog bites going. My senko stays on the top and if I use a bullet weight it grabs the weeds. I've seen punching but I don't know if I can use that from the shore or if it works in this nasty plant? Most guys use it from boats or into lilly pad type cover. Is there a way to effectively fish this stuff from the shore? I'm near Harrisburg, PA. If anyone is near me and would want to head out and show me some tips I'd greatly appreciate it. I've been trying to fish the franklintown game lands and the large pond along old york rd. The large pond is suppose to have pickerel in it but again it is totally full of the plants.
  13. I understand there is a good population of small mouth bass in the yellow breeches creek in PA. Has anyone fished for them and could you point me to an area that I might have some luck? I live in the Mechanicsburg area. Thanks.
  14. Mine is the original Red Dawn.
  15. I find the frustrating part of bank fishing is finding bank to fish from. So much of the lakes and ponds around my area are very grown up around the sides and there are just a few places you can fish from. Boats seem like the would open those areas to allow for fishing, maybe not, as I don't have a boat.
  16. That is the speed demon.
  17. What lake is that?
  18. I'm new also but one thing I've been finding is that casting along the shore, not deep, is a help. Try a wacky senko.
  19. I'm sure that YouTube has made agreements that favor them as they are currently the only game in town for video content. It used to be that you could choose to monetize your content or not, if not there was no ads, if so then they assign ads and you get a very small portion of the money from the ad. YouTube gets paid the larger portion, your content is what makes them money. Now it seems they are trying to say content is controversial and advertisers don't want to be associated with it. So they now do not pay the content producers, however the ads are still running and YouTube is still getting paid. This is wrong. It might not be illegal but it is wrong. You are getting compensated for producing a video that people want to watch and which advertisers run ads on, it is ad revenue. Since you're old, if you produced a magazine and sold advertising for it. Then print the magazine and sell. Afterward the ad company says it's to controversial and they won't pay. It is wrong.
  20. I watched a Yankee Marshall video and he talked about this. Apparently YouTube still plays the ads on his channel, he just doesn't get paid. That seems really wrong. If they still run the ads and they still get paid by the advertiser, then the video producer should get paid. It would be different if they pulled ads all together because advertisers were opposed to the content. The whole being a professional youtuber seems like it won't last.
  21. so I don't understand how this works. Many of the fishing channels I watch have 4 ads or more in a 15 mintue video. Are you saying we watch the ads but then the producer doesn't get paid, or are there simply no ads? I assumed Youtube was pushing more ads in an attmept to get us all on paid Youtube, but I think that is going to backfire.
  22. I'm really new to fishing, like a month or two. Most of my fish have been caught on a black and blue jig or chatter bait. I bounce either along the bottom or swim the chatter bait. The fish in PA seem to love it. I've found the ponds that get a lot of pressure the bass won't bite rubber worms. I like the strike king hack attack with super chunk tails.
  23. Toxic what would you recommend? I just got the abu garcia orra sx combo that Dicks has on sale. I've never used one before and it seems good to me, so far I like it. There is certainly a learning curve. Now I got my combo for $80. When I look at all these other reels, I can't tell the difference. For all I know you're just throwing money away. So how expensive does a reel need to be to tell a difference?
  24. Girls absolutely can like to fish. It's amazing that dad's would exclude them. My daughter likes fish more than my son. She is also 6 and hopefully will land her own any day now.
  25. Koz thanks. We normally stay at Harbor side and get use of Palmeto dunes. There is a bike path that goes under the road there, is that a lagoon vs a pond or is that a creek? We'll have to take our rods next year and get a license. looking at the map there is quite a few places we ride bikes past each year that we would be able to fish.
