  1. Not the biggest smallie by any means, but the first one I've ever caught on the fly. Here's to many more! Also didn't manage to get a decent picture of it because the darn thing flopped out of my hands and into the water right as I got the hook out.
  2. Whopper Plopper 90 in bone for me. Have a 110 on the way though, so I may have to amend this statement soon. Nothing beats a smallie hitting the topwater and getting the fight underway.
  3. Hey everyone, I'm Tyler from Grand Rapids. I grew up fishing with my grandpa, but had gotten away from it until recently. I studied Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Michigan (Go Blue, c/o 2014) with an emphasis on fisheries. Even during this time I didn't really get out and fish much and never owned my own equipment. This past year my fiancee got me a cheap telescopic spinning combo and I caught the bug. I quickly added a baitcasting combo and have been getting out to the water whenever I can. So far I've mostly been fishing the river from the bank/wading, but I just bought a kayak so I'm looking forward to getting out on the lake and getting after it! This site has been incredibly helpful while I learn the ropes.
  4. I've been having good luck with the whopper plopper 90 in bone and loon patterns. I have a 110 on the way though and I'm looking forward to getting out and throwing it. My next best has been a Keitech on a weighted swimbait hook.
