  1. Have not tried the Enox but have a Zolo Dragger and am finally getting a Deputy custom built. With the Dragger, I use 50 lb braid to a 15-20 lb mono leader and have zero problems clearing the guides. At times I will get the slightest 'tick' as the knot passes (usually when the line is dry). I'm pretty obsessive about this kind of stuff and it isn't enough to bother me. To be fair, any knot will 'tick' any size guides from time to time. Nature of the beast. The guides are actually a mid-micro size 5, so the inner diameter is 4.5 mm. These guides were chosen with leader knots in mind. You can contact Alex at ALX and he will be more than happy to discuss in length with you and concerns. He is an awesome dude, and talking to him feels like you are talking to just a regular dude that is passionate about building great rods instead of 'customer service.' When I had my Dragger built, I jumped back and forth between having size 6-5.5 guides installed instead of size 5, because I had the same concern as you. I'm glad I stuck with the size 5 guides. In full disclosure, I tie an FG knot and always will. YMMV with a bigger knot. Give Alex a call though. He will be happy go put any guides you want on a rod.
  2. If I had to choose 1, 7 speed (or bout' 30 IPT).
  3. For Flipping, the reel doesn't really matter too much. Since you probably mean Pitching, just get something fast and comfortable in your hand. Nothing really special required.
  4. Mono and flouro generally stretch about the same in fact. It certainly doesn't return to its original length after being stretched. It is also damaged more from being stretched than mono.
  5. I am far from a motorhead but carb cleaning, new spark plugs, water pump replacement, and lower unit service can all be done by an average dude with a set of wrenches and a little patience. I guess it boils down to how much spare cash you have, but I've never had the burden of making that decision. YouTube can guide you through servicing most outboard motors. No, seriously
  6. Bass X is made of the SC2 blanks that the old Mojo Bass used to be made of. The old Mojo Bass used the be called something else (I think). The current Mojo Bass use SC3 blanks, and academically should be a little lighter and more sensitive. I have never owned a Mojo Bass rod but they seem to have a good rep. I have had 2 Bass X rods. I still have 1 and regret returning the other. There is nothing ground breaking about them, but IMO totally decent rods. If I ever need another cranking rod I'll likely buy the medium heavy moderate version that I foolishly returned. Still use the 7'4" med heavy mod fast for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, big crank baits, and buzz baits. Excellent rod for that stuff.
  7. Not sure I agree with either of those. Granted I have had no formal training on fishing line composition but I'd submit flouro and mono stretch about the same, under about the same amount of stress. Of course this knowledge is born only from personal experience and to some that isn't enough. It's made a believer outta me. Always thought flouro was a little more sensitive for the same reason it sinks, density.
  8. Flouro stretches a ton dude. It just stays stretched unlike mono.
  9. Not a bad point man. I have to mention though, that pros are paid to endorse all kinds of fishing gear, whether they believe in it or not. How many pros have you heard say they use Flouro because it is "low stretch?" That misinformation is still prevalent among many anglers.
  10. To me, it's about the brakes. Most reels above $100 are plenty smooth, low profile, and weigh about the same, and have similar casting distance with more than adequate drag for bass. I love all my Lews reels, but I now own a couple of Diawas and the Mag Force braking is really winning me over.
  11. I like your style. The Pflueger President has a pretty good reputation, although I've never owned one. I have been using one of their Trion reels for years and it has been flawless.
  12. Really no wrong answer here but if quality is your goal don't go with a combo. Usually at least the rod or reel, or both is plucked from the lower shelf of a manufacturer's line up in order to offer a low combo price. Although I have a Pflueger Trion spinning combo still going strong after nearly 9 years.
  13. This reminds me of going over to some of my older relatives' houses (grand parents and such) and seeing their sofa wrapped in clear plastic. Some of you younger folks may not have ever experienced this, but it used to be a thing. I always used to wonder how they could stand never being about to enjoy the feeling of the sofa fabric due to the plastic protector. To me, sealing the cork of a rod handle is no different. I like the feel of cork and I ain't about to cover it up with any chemicals. Quality cork handles last a long, long time. No need to seal them.
  14. I am basically an FG knot fan boy. If you tie it correctly it is extremely strong. The key is to really, I mean really cinch it down hard before you tie the finishing knots at the end. Simply grabbing the main line in one hand and the leader in the other hand (like you'll see in most videos) isn't enough. I tie the end of my leader line to something that isn't going the move, and wrap some of my main line around a wooden spoon or screw driver handle and pull HARD, and hold. I take my time with it (usually at least 5 minutes), but when it's finished, a knot failure isn't something I even consider. It almost never happens. The only reason I ever retie on the same setup is because my leader gets too short, and I typically start with about 12 feet.
  15. Easiest way to remember is Pitching is the one you'll actually do.
  16. Power Pro. BTW, don't think crappy braid will hurt your guides. It'll just be crappy braid.
  17. Flipping? it doesn't matter in the least. I doubt you will ever actually do it. Pitching? something fast. You need a reel that can take up line quickly. Act accordingly
  18. When people say braid floats and flouro sinks, it always leaves me scratching my head. Any weighted lure on the end of my line is gonna sink, and consequently so will my fishing line. Are people referring to the bow braid tends to create while fishing bottom contact? If so, okay, I guess I kinda see your point but it's never been appreciable enough for me to prefer flouro. Rate of fall difference? That one will never make sense to me. But then again, there are many things about fishing that I'm still clueless about.
  19. I had a new Tatula 7'6" med heavy rod for a short time. Absolutely loved the rod but it had a fatal flaw for me. It uses micro guides, which I didn't realize when I ordered it. Actually took it fishing for a day. Such a good rod, but I use braid to leader, so it was a no-go.
  20. Guess that's what I use then. My leaders are usually about ten feet long. I use an fg knot and it is kind of a pain to tie correctly. Using a longer leader means I have to tie a new leader knot less often.
  21. What is a roll on leader
  22. Use a jeweler screwdriver to chip away the epoxy that is cracked. Then reapply new epoxy. Mudhole sells a size of flex kote that that would be more than adequate for this job for like $14. No need for a rod spinner at all.
