Help me choose a brand of reels and rods.
Definitely going to get a Daiwa Fuego CT and a Tatula CT in my hands and see how they feel. Thanks for the advice, everyone! As far as rods go, I'm still undecided. I'll figure it out.

Kayakin'
You got any options that don't cost money? @NYWayfarer and I just switched to Geico so we're not used to paying for things.

Help me choose a brand of reels and rods.
Thanks, @Jelvas! I had a good long look at those Daiwa Tatula CTs and they were in the running beside the Abu Garcia Revo X and the Daiwa Fuego CTs. I should probably spend the little bit on change on a better reel and grab them. I haven't had a look at the St. Croix rods, so I'll give them a gander. Now I'm wondering how visually pleasing they are with a Daiwa Tatula seated on top.

Help me choose a brand of reels and rods.
Well, someone is going to link the best rod and best reel threads without ever reading this topic because that's the thing to do for some folks, but, for you guys that do read rather than hitting ctrl+v, here's my dilemna. I want to use one brand of reels and one brand of rods because I'm a crazy person. I'd like to keep those reels below the 150 dollar range and the rods as well, and the rods and reels can be different brands. I just want the same brands so I'm matching and more importantly, for maintenance ease as well as the ability to have equipment that tunes in a similar fashion. I also believe having reels that perform close to the same will help me stay away from picking up a "favorite" setup for ease of use so I can broaden the amount of techniques in my arsenal. I want a reel with a 5 or 6 speed on the low end, with a mid range of 6 or 7, and a high speed of 7 to 8. For example, the Revo X is 80 or so bucks on eBay and comes in 5, 6, and 7 speed. The Daiwa Fuego CT comes in 6, 7, and 8 speed. As far as rods go, I fish out of a kayak primarily so I've been thinking of trying out a 6'3" for jerkbaits. That's as short as I want in the rod holders behind me. For everything else, I'm a terribly stiff guy so my wrist movement sucks on the cast and I roll-cast and sidearm a ton. I've got a stack of rods standing straight up in the air, so my overhands are more of a diagonal to not catch a bait on a rod and end up with the mother of all birds nests. So a line of rods from 6-7'6" is key. Can you guys give me a hand with all that?

Beavers In Ponds
I'm not here to troll or start an argument, but... Beavers do consume fish. I've never personally seen them do it, but I do know a man that has. There are multiple accounts of it and several articles written about it online, as well as a YouTube video showing one munching away at a salmon head. Much like a red deer biting the head off a nesting seabird to consume it's brain, beavers eat fish brains. Most accounts are of beavers munching on carcasses discarded by bears and humans. I do not personally believe they consume many live fish, but I believe given the chance one will. Mostly, they seem to dine primarily on dead fish, and in particular, the brain. Beavers are the scavenging zombies of the rodent family, it seems.

Hello
Welcome to bassresource but more importantly, welcome back to the water!

What seems to never work for you...
I've been fishing since I was a little guy but it was primarily in rivers and ponds. Small rivers and ponds, to be exact. Jerkbaits would work year round in the river, the floating rapalas were a bait I grew up on, as well as Texas rigged worms. That was basically it as far as techniques went. My fishing now largely consists of public fishing areas with heavy pressure, so when I found out about weightless senko style worms they quickly became my confidence bait. Now I'm after big bites rather than bites after adding a double digit to my catches, so jigs are my deal. The only hard bait I have confidence in is lipless crankbaits. I'm primarily fishing a jig, followed by a finesse jig, followed by the slow technique that is a Texas rigged YUM Dinger with no bullet. I'm truly a beginner with a year of heavy fishing experience and I keep getting better, but I think I could really up my game by adding some good electronics to the Hobie and finding the least pressured underwater structure on my local ponds and eventually offshore fishing in lakes. I've typed too much at this point. If it's not a jig, Texas rig with a weight, or unweighted worm, my mind pretty much subconsciously identifies it as something that doesn't catch fish. Makes me sad.

How was your weekend? Here's mine.
Damnit man, I'm about an hour away from the Satilla and 30 minutes from the Altamaha off 169. I've been thinking about throwing the kayak in there once the current is a bit more manageable.

Do You Eat Your Bass?
The negativity of the C&R guys is unreaaal. d**n ye, d**n ye to heck, eater of bass! I do, on occasion, eat largemouth along with whatever I can scrounge up for a fish fry. They're few and far between, but very much tradition here.

@BassNJake she's out, then. She said she wouldn't come between me and fishing and what she's done is just unforgivable.

Thanks man, I'll chalk it up as a learning experience. I hope neither of us has to deal with a weekend like that ever again!

How was your weekend? Here's mine.
So, I'm gonna tell you a story to tell you another story. I slipped out the girlfriend's house Friday morning, which takes some ninja skill. She sleeps about as hard as a gunshy guard dog with an empty belly. She wakes up to a silent fart, I'm telling you. Lord knows I wore a good many dinks out before I headed back in, slid back in the bed like I'd never left. That's definitely the most impressive part of my weekend. ...onto the bad parts of the weekend. After leaving the lady's place to head home to "clean up," and "wash clothes" at my house, I of course got bit by the bait monkey and hit the Wal-Mart for some Baby Boo Jigs and them daggum Netbait Baby Paca Craws all them boys on the YouTube go on and on about. I should have been washing clothes an hour ago. I check out and meander on toward the house but get stopped at the Ohoopee River bridge by the just a few casts monkey. Seventeen head of kids are cannonballing into the river and a drunk man has a speaker system blaring some Toby Keith song about being an American Soldier, despite being a country music singer, and old overalls has himself a mic setup and he's an American Soldier too, damnit. I'm in prime fishing conditions, I tell ya. I spook a bass off the bank and pitch a couple times to the cover he's crammed himself into to no avail. I cross the river on foot. Nearly step on an old catfish tucked close to an old bridge piling. I'm a redneck, not an American soldier, and I don't need no boat. Or so I thought. Behold my three step system to making a fool of yourself. 1. Get hung up. 2. Walk back onto the bank to retrieve your jig from the other side of the hang up. 3. Slip on the muddy bank and give the score of river children and the American Drunkard your best redneck bank skiing performance. I busted my butt. An old man is laughing over a microphone. The kids have taken a break from the rope swing and are laughing their ***** off. I've landed on my reel and bent the handles in and thought I'd lost a hundred bucks over two worth of jig and trailer. So I go home, finally do my chores, and head back to the girlfriend's house. Head to the honey hole I caught my PB in to lick my wounds. Hook into a solid with the jig that caused the whole ordeal, and get broken off because I'm a slack-jawed bank skiing fool who's got 18 pounds of drag on 12# fluorocarbon. Check your drag. Or fish with big fish line when you're throwing in a big fish hole!

jon boat vs kayak... no motor paddling only
You won't spend four figures for a stand-up capable kayak. More like 500 bottom end.

Lake Sinclair
Thanks again, Flat. Is Rocky creek that giant cut that runs north from Bass Marina?

jon boat vs kayak... no motor paddling only
I have a 1436 Jon boat with a 9.9 on the back and a 40# on the front, as well as a Hobie Outback and a Hobie Pro Angler 14. I only touch my boat when my girlfriend or mother wants to to fishing. The Vibe Seaghost 13 is an awesome platform if you want to paddle, but a used Hobie can be had for a grand on craigslist.

Lake Sinclair
Thanks, @flatcreek. I'm not looking to drive that far up North as the southern side near the dam is only about an hour away. What baits would you recommend for this lake for this time of year? Do you know anything about the south side, particularly this area?

Lake Sinclair
I'm about to start fishing Lake Sinclair from my kayak. Considering it's a kayak and I only have a range in the area of 10 miles, does anyone have any general areas for this lake? I've been a river and pond fisherman my whole life with limited experience in Blackshear, so any tips for this particular body and a good launch location that would get me on some fish would be much appreciated!

Fishing in SE Georiga
I'm about an hour west of Savannah. We're definitely in the post spawn now.

Statesboro, GA
I'm from Claxton, GA, about 25 minutes from you. Fort Stewart is about an hour from you and has 20+ ponds for 30 bucks a year. The Ogeechee river is near you and has some decent fishing, you're probably not going to see much size, there was an atrocious fish kill about 5 years ago. Magnolia Springs State Park is between you and Millen off 25. I've never fished it. There is also a pond in the Mill Creek park right there in Statesboro.

Hobie PA12 first run, impressions
I own and fish from a 2017 PA14, and occasionally my 2010 Outback. They're both phenomenal kayaks, and I've been as far out as 6 miles off the beach in the Outback. A quick tip for reducing your turning radius even more; with the rudder straight, give the drive about three solid kicks and then cut the rudder hard in your desired direction, then, continue kicking. You'll notice a world of difference. Here's a king mackerel I hooked up with in North Carolina last year.
