  1. I have 3 spinning and 2 casting rods that are 2 piece in my truck. Only 1 under $100. I like that I don't have to drag gear in and out of the house for each fishing trip. Always been curious if I'm missing out by not leaving a 1 piece
  2. For $200 from Cabelas you could get a Diawa Tatula and St Croix Premiere split grip or a St Croix Bass X. I'm very tempted to pick up this combo myself
  3. I use glass beads between the weight and a Texas rigged worm. Not sure if it does anything but I catch fish with this setup
  4. If I explain it hurts my case for plausible deniability
  5. So I've always used 2 piece rods because they live under the back seat of my truck. Was looking at a new St Croix bass rod and they claim their 1 piece and 2 piece rods fish the same. Is there any advantage in buying a 2 piece rods beyond rod selection? BTW I've been fishing for 30 years and haven't had a decent quality rod ever come apart during a cast
  6. Sam, the wait is finally over. Now you can get some fishing tips packed with sarcasm, lol.
  7. Sounds like good plan......after I do a little bragging about the big bass I just caught Haha
  8. When using a drop shot find something that helps you slow down. I like to have a cigar when using a drop shot since taking a nice puff during my pause/deadstick seems to help. One day I was getting skunked and luckly my kiddo was having line twist issues. I got fish my first fish once I picked my rod up after getting his rod fixed. Next time he got line twist I got him fixed and as soon as I moved my rod I got a second fish. Ended up being a very productive day once I learned how to slow it WAY down
  9. Keep an eye on water temp, water clarity, barometric pressure, cloud cover, temp, time of day, and any environmental queues. Keep a log of what's hot and not based on those queues. You will also need to track depth you're catching the fish, depth of the water that you're finishing, speed of retrieve, and any twitch/pause retrieve pattern that works (or doesnt). Based on this you will learn what works for you and when a technique works. Collecting and analyzing data isn't fun but that works in the long run. Often what doesn't work is more important than what does I will sometimes just keep moving to different types of terrain with the same methods to see if it's just the speed, retrieve pattern, water depth, or the bass have just moved instead of tying on a new lure. Use your gut instinct based on the data/experience you have. Sorry I have no great shortcuts to total fishing matter young grasshopper
  10. Poppers, frogs, walking baits, buzz baits, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, spoons, and swimbaits have all produced some nice sized bass. I do catch more bass dragging the bottom but my biggest ones have all been top water With trout I'll work a body of water much quicker than with bass but the options above will allow you to work the bank at a good pace
  11. Thanks Tom. I normally use 6lb floro for trout so I'll give it a try Boomstick, sounds like a good plan. I will have to check out the BG
  12. Hi Frosty, I don't have the setup. This is what i'm looking at. I was looking at the Fenwick HMG too. Pflueger President is a great reel. Only looking at the Daiwa since they are on sale. My trout set up is a St Croix Premiere 6'6" med lt with a Pflueger President that I've had for 12 years and LOVE the setup. I would use this setup for finesse but the rod doesn't seem to toss lures well that are much over 1/4oz but probably should give it a try. May even put the braid on the 2nd spool since I use 6lb floro for trout
  13. Hey there I'm making my first post and want suggestions on a finesse setup. I'm a shore fisherman that uses a 2 rods but one of my reels has died so time to blow some $$$. I've been bringing 2 casting rods for a while which has served me well but thinking a med lt 7' spinning rod would be better for light weight applications. Any thoughts on th this setup? Rod: St. Croix Mojo Bass Spinning Rod 7'1" med 2 piece Reel: Daiwa Fuego 2500 spinning reel Main line: 832 Advanced Braided Superline 10lb Leader: 8lb P-Line Soft Flurocarbon I'd like to hear what your favorite setup is as well.
  14. I've been a creeper and just reading posts for far too long. Now it's time I join in on the fishing debauchery
