Need new Spinning Rod for around $100
I just sold my Mojo Bass 7' med spinning rod for $90 and purchased a Dobyns Sierra 703. My Dobyns rods just felt better balanced and more sensitive in my hands.

St Croix legend tournament vs Dobyns Champion XP
I'm considering between these rods for a jigging/texas rig rod fishing from a kayak. Looking for feedback on comparing these rods to one another. Thx

Spinning reels for crankbaits
Great info here. Things I hadn't thought of. In SW Ohio I am either wading or fishing from a kayak and I rarely throw large or deep diving cranks here so I like the extra distance from my spinning gear but wind knots are an issue. I've use baitcasters most of my adult fishing life but just started using braid the last three years and for me throwing cranks from a Kayak into the wind requires adjusting the brakes or using heavy thumb pressure resulting in much less distance. Would mono on my BC result in less backlash and more distance into the wind? I have been considering either using all mono on a spinning rig for my Ohio crankbaiting or picking up a DC reel for my Dobyns FR705CB rod. On the Chesapeake Bay (boat fishing) I've had good results with an Ugly Stik spinning gear for cranks and topwater trebles to get added distance. Plus the slower action rod keeps the fish pinned. Since we are using heavier baits for Striper fishing the Chesapeake wind knots are rarely a problem and braid to mono works well.

Spinning reels for crankbaits
I've been using the Dobyns fury 706c for cranking here in Ohio. No doubt it's a good rod but I'm having more success with a slow action spinning rod. Just curious who else may be using spinning gear for crankbaits.

Shimano 17 Scorpion DC
I heard the JDM reels do not have the Shimano warranty. Is this true?

Why? Can you explain? Do you have experience with both reels?

Garmin vs Hummingbird?
I just need the UHD. Thx. FYI... An Australian fellow named Nick Bright has posts from his Striker +9sv with a GT 52 transducer on the Facebook page "The Garmin Fishing Community" that will blow your mind with the detail he gets with his SI.

Garmin vs Hummingbird?
I agree with considering Livescope in the decision making. Can you send me your settings? I use mine in the Chesapeak Bay.

Where are the Ohio Fisherman?
I'm just south of Dayton. I can get to Erie in 3hrs and AEP in 2 1/2 hrs. These days I fish from a Hobie Kayak while I'm in Ohio so I stay in the Harbors when fishing Erie. Since I have never been to AEP, I am curious if it be the better option for me.

Garmin vs Hummingbird?
I have a Garmin 94sv with UHD and a Humminbird Helix 7 MSI. Overall I prefer my Garmin for ease of use and the 2d image. The Hummingbird defintely excels in DI and SI imaging but requires constant adjustments to the settings depending on the conditions. This may not be a fair comparison since the Garmin unit I have has more features than the Humminbird, such as touch screen, shortcut keys, active captain and a larger screen. I've had lower level Garmins and from my experience Garmin is more user friendly. Hummingbird can provide more information if your willing to work with it and it is better imaging in shallow water. Garmin for me is easier to use and I prefer it in deeper water. If you decide on Garmin with DI and SI I haven't found the UHD upgrade to be worth the investment, I would recommend sticking with the GT52 TM transducer. Both brands are good quality, the best advice I recieved is buy the largest screen you can afford.

That's a great list of waters for fishing.

Strike King Rage Tail Craw Alternatives
Generally I believe the LMB in SE Ohio are much smaller than So Cal so it is possble that they are biting off the tails. If we pull a 4 lb'er we've had a very good day around here.

Strike King Rage Tail Craw Alternatives
I didn't try to set the hook I was just dragging it slowly. We don't have any SM bass in the lake I was fishing. But on another note I have had basss carry my jig under my kayak then when I set the hook it pulls away. How long do I need to wait?

Scent
There's an fisherman/author by the name of Shawn Kimbro who has written about the benefits of Anise Oil. I guess it's time for me to take notice.

Scent
I've used crawfish and garlic. I've find garlic more effective is there another scent I should be trying?

Strike King Rage Tail Craw Alternatives
Thx. I just ordered some Paca Craws to try. I've been hearing good things from a number of sources. Just curious, what others have you tried?

Strike King Rage Tail Craw Alternatives
I don't have to change from RT craws. They key words in the question was "as effective"and "more durable".

Strike King Rage Tail Craw Alternatives
The new Yum Craw Pappi looks good. Are they durable. I have fish pull off the claws on my Rage Tail Craws

Strike King Rage Tail Craw Alternatives
The Strike King Rage Tail Craw is my most effective jig trailer but it gets torn apart too easily. Are there more durable alternatives that have been as effective? I've been considering Zman Turbo Crawz and would appreciate any feedback from someone using this bait.

Your Height vs. Rod Length... does it matter?
I'm only 5'6" and longer rods are fine depending where you are fishing. On a bass boat or open banks a long rod is great to increase casting distance. On my kayak long rods are a double edged sword, although they increase distance they are harder to manage under trees and when changing line so I prefer shorter rods. On my center console boat with rods stored overhead and multiple fisherman onboard I don't go over 6'6" and prefer 6' rods. On a river bank with trees I prefer short rods. Where my height comes into play relative to rod length varies by technique. For example I find it difficult to "walk the dog" with a rod over 6'6" and my casting to structure is more accurate if the rod isn't too lengthy.

Where are the Ohio Fisherman?
Bass fishing in SW Ohio is difficult but I've learned fishing off a kayak has improved the experience for me. Most of the time I'm fishing alone since my brother had a stroke. As a result it's easier for me and gives me more flexiblity to use a kayak plus I can throw it in the back of the truck anytime I'm traveling . I have never been to AEP, can I get a kayak on those lakes?
