  1. For me, I tend to respond in kind. They want to get nasty with me and I'm down to play that game--fact of the matter is in my state, if you are on a public freshwater lake, everything beneath the ordinary high watermark is held in the public trust for the benefit of the public. A riparian owner's right to exclusively use their riparian zone is subject to the public trust doctrine which provides for a number of activities--certainly, fishing (as noted in common law precedent time and time again). So if they're gonna be a.....mean person about it...they're getting the full legal spiel. Now if a person comes out and politely asks me to not flip around the dock/boat and is cool about it, no problem man, totally understand. To me its about respect more than "rights."
  2. I have a Garmin ECHOMAP Plus 73sv. First time I took it out on a local reservoir, the depth lines showed perfectly for the body of water I was on. However, I went to another body of water and could not see any. I know data is available onthis lake as I looked at this lake on the demo unit in the store. Cannot seem to figure out why its suddenly stopped displaying depth lines. Thoughts?
  3. Well ran 10# powerpro to 8# fluoro yesterday and hooked up first cast, solid 15" chunky fella. Leader and knot did just fine. I have a habit of tossing ned rigs into the thick stuff and did break off at the knot when trying to get unsnagged but that's just operator error. Anyone know where to get some 1/10 oz heads with some sort of weedless hook? An EWG would be amazing... Heard they're out there but not the easiest to find.
  4. That makes total sense--actually thought the same thing yesterday when I was unboxing my rod. Going to tie it about half way between guide 1 and 2. Thanks everyone, I am a new member and this forum has been awesome so far!
  5. Been a straight line kind of guy my whole life--straight fluoro or straight braid for whatever is needed. However, I am setting up a ned rig specific rod and was wondering what yall would suggest for leader length from 10# power pro to 8# fluoro? More generally, what are the principles of leader lengths? Would assume a bit shorter for flipping since that could keep the knot out of the guides more but I will be making some longer casts with this set-up as I am fishing from a kayak (not the most conducive to repeating the same cast over and over). Thoughts and suggestions are much appreciated, thanks! Edit: I should also add that I will be fishing for both smallmouth and largemouth, although I think this rod is gonna be more at home hitting the creeks/rivers for bronzebacks
  6. Hit a spot about 75yds upstream as the downstream spots are just about inaccessible from shore right now--brush has gotten impenetrably thick, will have to hit the downstream spots from the other side of the creek which I'll have to either swim to or use my kayak. Followed everyone's advice and hit an ambush spot just past some quick water...PB of 15.5" on my third cast! Just started smallie fishing so I'm working up to the tanks, I suppose.
  7. Dang, all sound like great ideas. Will probably throw a shaky head and a tube down there just to see what happens but there are some nearby spots with 5-8' of depth with some structure. First season going after smallies, been a LM guy my whole life but these river/creek fish are just too fun--they basically spend their lives on a treadmill!
  8. Creek off of a main river has good flow of varying depths before a very shallow area, about 1' (when water is low) which abuts a big ledge and drop off before the creek makes a big bend. When it bends, it drops off to about 15-20' of water. Have heard that the smallmouth will get down low in that water in this spot but unsure of a good presentation, maybe a drop shot w/ a 1/2oz sinker? Hooked up on a couple smallies maybe 30 yards upstream so I know they're in there, just want to nail a tank!
