Scat/Poop rod
I wouldn't want to put a 1/2 oz jig on it, personally. I think 3/8 is top end for that rod, especially with any cover. I mostly use mine for shaky heads, senkos, and finesse jigs.

You will probably want a 5 power in the dobyns line up for your intended purposes. Go with the 735 in whatever series you can afford. You can also check out the used section for them online at ALF.

Boomerang snip tool. I have two that are about 5 seasons old. Not quite as sharp as they once were, but still do the job.
