  1. I think part of it is that a lot of people are fishing crankbaits that simply didn't fish them much before. I have a friend who NEVER throws cranks.....until KVD.....he rushed out and bought some Series6 deep cranks and - *surprise*- caught a bunch of fish on them. Now he swears up and down to the effectiveness of "Sexy Shad," not the actual crankbait he was using to catch all those fish.
  2. I love purple! (big surprise, huh Bob!......I'll always be a pervert! ;D)
  3. Very nice stuff - - I really like the teal-sided bait. Primo stuff as usual!
  4. Looking very good, Toledo - - - and I agree with the others.......the lime/silver bait is a killer pattern! Nice job!
  5. Top-shelf stuff as usual!
  6. Nose-standing lipless crankbait.....problems solved. Added benefit of being able to work the lure vertically and not just horizontally.

Good to see you here, Cliff!
  8. Agreed (I also ultra-dig the Staysee....my #1 for winter/early spring).
  9. There are a lot of small crank builders in the U.S. BigM Nomad Flat-Shad Zoom WEC JawJacker Brian's Bees RAM Lures Lots of swimbait companies, too. (Mattlures, 3:16, etc..)

I personally prefer hybrid round/flat sides like the one you just did over purely round baits. Flat surfaces on the sides provide both more "flash" and a more distinctive vibration.

Killer job, Marty. It's amazing to me how you keep things so symmetrical on these rounded baits.
  12. On my official Poe's practice plug. I'm about to give up trying to take a decent picture without natural light, though. This is my first stab at doing freehand squiggles and dots (on the gill plate). I was so shaky and nervous I'm surprised the paint isn't everywhere. ;D
  13. That's killer - awesome job!
  14. Righteous
  15. Lookin' good bnw.....never thrown a Mama Cat before.
  16. Very popular pattern around here (local guy Tim Hughes, long-time custom lure painter, is credited with making it popular).
  17. What kind of action?
  18. Nice fish BigRickRolled.....have you ever tried any of these?
  19. 8lb 7oz . . . caught on a homemade spinnerbait (white w/white willows). Actually caught four bass over 8 lbs that weekend on my home lake and have never experienced anything like that again there. Must have been something freaky going on in the cosmos those couple of days.
  20. Actually inspired by my fiance's makeup tonight... ;D Think I'll call the pattern "Annabelle." ;D
  21. Good job - - good to see you getting away from Sexy Shad! Look forward to seeing the gizzard shad.

It's very simple - - just cut a concave shape out of any suitable material (as idlov mentioned, there's a lot of stuff you can use). I use Frisket a lot because it's clear and I can stick it to the bait and trace a shape while it's actually on the lure. Just take a look at some of the lures on this forum for ideas on the general shape. A lot of guys use basically a circular pattern and just keep moving it back along the lure. You can also make a couple of different shapes for the plates. I used two different shapes for this one. A concave "L" for the two main body plates, and then a skinny U shaped stencil to make the tail plates. Obviously this is reverse craw - - you can make the craw face either direction....whatever your preference. Some lures look best reversed (especially shallow cranks) and others look really cool facing forward (check out bnwcrankin's posts!)
  23. Thanks Marty - - I've been meaning to get around to doing a basic catalog of classic color schemes (No.9, Mellow Yellow, Firetiger, Horton, etc)......think I'll get started on that.
  24. I agree with the first few comments - - my favorite batch, yet. Especially like the first one!
