  1. Uni to uni passes through my SV TW just fine. Braid to fluoro. This has not been my experience. Same parameters, my Tatula SV TW in comparison to a Shimano Curado K and the Curado threw further. Not sure if this is what you mean by a typical real world cast.
  2. Been up and down various fishing isles large and small. Why isn't lure weight specified on packaging like common treble hook lures? Especially some of the more common brands. Do I bring a scale to the store so it matches my rod? Am I missing something?
  3. Totally appreciate the responses! Being new to this I am learning a ton on these forums. Good to know that I have options for this setup. I think I'll try treble hooks next.
  4. Thanks for the replies! Sounds to me this setup will be quite versatile. I guess I had made the assumption that the extra fast tip would NOT be recommended for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, buzzbaits. @Delaware Valley Tackle I too am skeptical about the weight range, which is why I'll throw anything up to 3/8 oz. I must admit this may be my all around favorite reel, based on looks and feel. I've been on this Japan kick lately, and I think the combo looks terrific. Palms really well, tiny, super light and nicely balanced. Glad to know that I can use it for more than just jigs and plastics.
  5. Recently bought this setup–total impulse buy. I saw a need for casting lighter lures (Daiwa markets this rod as a finesse rod, extra fast tip for jigs and worms). Based on the specs below is it recommended casting anything else other than jigs and plastics? Daiwa Alphas SV 105 Daiwa Tatula Rod M-XF 6'10" 3/32-1oz
  6. I was thinking 4" plastic worms and 1/8 jig heads, possibly drop shots with 1/8 weights. The reason I was trying to eliminate my spinning setup for the above applications is because on a recent trip to Flat Head Lake in Montana both my spinning reels suffered from serious line twists, but that a different story. Did I forget to mention that casting is way more fun.
  7. This info is where my mind is at. I'd like to see if I could get the Alphas SV to tackle most of my light finesse needs. This being said, with my spinning reels and my finesse casting setup I feel like I can get away with 4 rods in my total arsenal. Love to have more tools in my tool box but I feel that 4 sets would be ideal for the amount I will fish. Goes something like this. Love to hear your thoughts, do I have bases covered? Daiwa Alphas SV - 5.8:1 Something along the lines of a MF 3/16-5/8 rod? Daiwa Tatula SV TW - 6.8:1 OR Shimano Curado K - 6.2:1 MH-F Abu Garcia Veritas rod 1/4-1 ounce Daiwa Regal 2000 Spinning Reel St Croix M F 1/4-5/8 ounce Pfleuger President 100 Spinning Reel St Croix ML F 1/8-1/2 ounce
  8. Thanks for the help all. Being new to this fishing thing I am still learning and this forum has been great! It seems the consensus is to keep my spinning setups, in which I will do. I want to keep a total of four rods/reels from my original post. I have 3 baitcast reels in my arsenal, in your opinion could I pair this down to two baitcast setups? Daiwa Alphas SV - 5.8:1 Still need a rod thinking a MF 3/16-5/8, please help recommend Daiwa Tatula SV TW - 6.8:1 MH-F Abu Garcia Veritas rod 1/4-1 ounce Shimano Curado K - 6.2:1 Still need a rod, please help recommend
  9. Thanks for the response so far. Point taken. Totally forgot to mention that I also have another spinning setup as well. Edited the original post.
  10. I'm new to baitcast fishing and I am moving on from spinning setups (I knew this would happen returning from a long hiatus, plan on keeping my ultra light spinning setup though). I have three casting reels based on what I have learned from this forum. I fish a small local pond mostly. It's convenient, it's not very deep, 6-8 ft. It's weedy in spots and have seen some good size bass in there lately 3-4 pounds, lots of bluegill as well. I'm re-learning so help me decide do I keep all three baitcast reels or can I get away with 2 bc setups from the below? Lately I have been interested in casting with light lures around 1/8 ounce. Daiwa Alphas SV - 5.8:1 Still need a rod thinking a MF 3/16-5/8, please help recommend Daiwa Tatula SV TW - 6.8:1 MH-F Abu Garcia Veritas rod 1/4-1 ounce Shimano Curado K - 6.2:1 Still need a rod, please help recommend Daiwa Regal 2000 Spinning Reel St Croix M F 1/4-5/8 ounce Pfleuger President 100 Spinning Reel St Croix ML F 1/8-1/2 ounce Thanks in advanced for the help!
  11. I had the exact same issue as you. I just fished with it and over time it worked itself out. Only noticed when spooling new line. Also some good info regarding the same topic here so it must be an issue. https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/208213-issues-with-new-curado-k/
  12. Just last weekend I was in the exact same same predicament. Went to my local sporting goods store and had one of each in my hand for quite some time, trying to decide. Walked out with the Curado K over a Tatula SV simply because it felt better in my hand. I too am new to baitcasters, and before the purchase I watched all the videos I could on how to setup brakes. The more I practiced, I soon realized that backing off the internal end external brake adjustments fulfilled the thrill of casting long bombs and using my thumb became second nature when my target approached. Again being a total noob, I realized that initially I relied on the brakes engaging. Now I feel like part of the experience of bait casting is using my thumb for control. I feel my thumb is better than magnets or centrifugal force.
  13. Well, I feel like a tool now. I own a new 201, less than a few days, I like the reel so much that I ordered a 200. I really like the left hand retrieve (I'm a natural righty) but can now try it on the right, somehow my mind is telling me that I'll keep the 201 and getting another one. Thanks for the help everyone.
  14. Little confused here. On Shimanos website it seems the CU200K is the exact same as the CU201K. Specs are identical, capacity, weight, bearings, retrieve per crank, drag and gear ratio. What am I missing? Seems like there is a lot of redundancy between several models in the K line.
  15. Totally agree with this. Bought my first baitcaster yesterday, and was ready to go back to spinning within the first hour. After dialing in my setup based on specs for my rod and reel I am now feeling I don't want to go back to spinning. After practicing with a full spool of fluoro line I was confident in my setup. Now I am throwing with braid. Check your setup and post back.
  16. Having gone through this myself I was set on returning my new as well, Curado K. I decided to do a bit o research and eliminate the uneven spooling to one side (in my case, side closest to retrieve handle). I like this K so much I was determined to keep it. First make sure that the spool itself is absolutely free, meaning do not over-tighten the cast control dial. You want a little bit of side to side play on the spool, careful don't go overboard by loosening the dial it too much. I think side to side play on both sides is good and free, maybe .02mm would be my guess. After you've done that, you are ready to re-spool by watching this YT video. Hopefully you can re-use your line. Hope this helps, it did for me. Keep this Curado if you can, I think it's a keeper. Uneven line fix
