  1. Sorry Glen, but I have yet to use a voice recognition that didn't say "What, What, What," not in that term, but essentially that. Oh!, by the way before you say enunciate better, I have two national titles in public speaking. I don't mind speaking to a newcomer to our country, as long as I can understand them. Many times I can't, and further they can't understand me. It has nothing to do with the level of education. I.E. My wife had a stroke. The specialist she had after her stroke, was from Pakistan. He was a well educated, caring man. The problem.., neither my wife or I could understand the man. You can't help if you can't communicate. Customer service is supposed to be about keeping, and maintaining customer satisfaction. How much satisfaction are you providing when the customer is saying !@#$%!!! :-?
  2. ;D ;D ;D I did that just two weeks ago. FYI I bought mine about the same time. I think it is the 3.??? Since then they came out with the 5.??? The new model gives you better interference reduction, and allows you to zoom foot by foot. Here is the best thing..,you can ship your finder back to them and they will up-grade it for $50.00. Contact them first for the authorization. Makes you wonder why Showdown can do that, while Humming Bird, Lowrance, Garmin, and the rest of the big boys just let you twist in the wind.
  3. I've only just got my fish-finder this Christmas, I don't think I would ever go ice fishing without one. It really IS that big a deal. At least to me, it is.
  4. I got a new Showdown fish finder for Christmas. It opened up a whole new world of ice fishing to me. I could see a 64Th (maybe smaller jig), and the smallest split shot, in over 35 feet of water. I could see fish move up, look at my offering then either take it, or drift back down. I went out with a friend who got an underwater camera. That was pretty cool too. We could see the fish sitting right next to our offerings. While that was neat, the real interesting thing was seeing tons of bubbles rising from the bottom. Oxygen I guess? The fish were very negative that day. My friend actually bounced his jig on a crappies head three times to get it to hit. He got another to bite that way. When he tried it a third time.., the fish swam away. With out my fish finder or his camera, I would have sworn there wasn't anything down there.
  5. What is going on is WEATHER !!!, just weather! Sometimes it's hot, sometimes it's cold, sometimes in-between. Stay warm my Confederate brothers (and sisters), better days are coming. FYI Washington DC has been shut down for several days..., I told you better days were coming ;D
  6. If it's hot..,they're right, If its dry..,they're right, If it's rainy..,they're right, If it's cold..,there right, snowing.., they're right. No matter the conditions it's always global warming. Heck this is a better gig then blaming George Bush for everything. Great racket! ;D
  7. The heavy snow was predicted and many scientists feel global warming is the reason. When the weather is warm the atmosphere holds more moisture, then when winter sets in the there is a greater amount of snow to be dropped. I believe El Nino is out there which puts more moisture into the air. I heard all the El Nino stuff I want to hear. First we were told it was supposed to be warm, and arid in Wisconsin..., NOT!, we had some real old time winters up here the last few years. It nailed the deer heard something awful. This year the "Scientist's" said we would have a warm dry winter. Right.. I have 6 face cords of hard maple up in smoke already, and for us we are only half way through winter. Twice these clowns have been caught in lies, and they are unrepentent about it. It's all about redistributing the wealth, NOT science. When ever something goes against their "RELIGION" they come up with an excuse. Why do I call it a "RELIGION" because none of it is really provable, and it takes a leap of faith to believe it. That's a religion! Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Believe me I am NOT aiming this rant at you personally. It's just that everything they say goes against common sense, and their extrapolations are costing this country and the world dearly. That's just how I feel about it.
  8. YA! but where do you drive your snow machine hey, and how long before da ice gets tick enough to drive on Ya. Ya! hey answer dat why doncha hey! ;D Who shovels now days ya got plows, dem snow blowers N if nuttin else ya got dat women hey! ;D ;D
  9. I'm with ya. I start in March with 3-4 foot snow banks, and a foot or so of snow on the ground. I sure can skip a lure a long way on the ice covered drive way. The folks around here just shake their heads as they drive by. Heck bass fishermen are all nuts anyway.
  10. Ain't that something ! I knew you guys had some snow flurries, but nothing like a real winter. : ;D Take heart today is the beginning of the third quarter of winter. The first half, and half time is over. We have a long way to go, but at least from here out we can fight our way OUT of winter, instead of in to it.
  11. We drive in snow 6 months a year. Snow isn't that much of a problem. Ice on the other hand is dangerous stuff. FIRST don't drive on it! If you find your caught on it (like black ice) put the passenger side tires on the soft shoulder, and crawl along. When you get home STAY there. *** Black ice is an ice condition that makes the road look like it is clear, but is so slippery you can hardly stand on it...., bad stuff
  12. What have you been doing the last three months , hibernating ? Welcome back. Putin' up firewood, Killin' deer, putin' up firewood, plowin' snow, putin' up firewood, and ice fishin'. What else you going to do in the north country in winter (November-April). FYI Ice don't go off our lakes until the middle to end of April, and once or twice, I have packed my creel with snow in the middle of May to keep my trout fresh. A lot of folks including me celebrate when the ice gets thick enough to walk on for ice fishing. It's even better when you can drive a truck on it, like now. ;D
  13. I love the Stanley floating frog. Stop, crawl, sputter, pop, buzz, twitch, you name it you can do it. No I don't work or get paid by them in anyway.
  14. It's fun to watch that big bass head emerge through the ice hole. My ice fishing opportunities were pretty good during the cold snap we had the previous weeks but now cabin fever is back upon me. Phooey! I got a new "Showdown" fish finder made just for ice fishing. I have been having a ball. You can see the ice jig (smaller then a tiny split shot for those unfamiliar) well over 30 feet down. It will separate a fish from the bottom if it's belly just lifts off the bottom. You can see the fish react to your every move. I stayed home this week because the temps have been below zero with wind chills down to -20, but I'll be out next week again. I wish Al Gore would show up around here..., we could use some hot air. :
  15. I honestly feel for you guys down south. Us northern folks are used to ice, snow, and cold, but you poor souls, oh man. Take heart, you folks will be fishing for spawning bass while I'll still be fishing through a hole in the ice. When summer comes, and it hits 90 up here you can feel sorry for me. If this "Global Warming" gets any worse we will all freeze.
  16. I was just looking at that can of Jack's Juice. Look's close to my bug spray stuff. Knowing me I'll spray that on, and keep slippin off my seat. ;D ;D ;D my women will think I been sippin' the Old Stump Blower again.
  17. All good ideas ! I'll bet the megastrike or pam would help it slide over the pads and stuff too. I really enjoy threads like this. You learn a lot of little tricks that can mean a lot. Thanks guys
  18. I'll be trying some of those hooks when fishing season rolls around again (we had snow already and are to get more Sat.). I think the trailer might be trouble in the junk we fish in. All in all though, they sure are a tickle to fish with. Thanks
  19. Yup. I've done the waiting thing. As far as action goes, other then medium/heavy ??? That hook has a straighter point then the ones we have been using, ours bend slightly at the tip. Do you think a wider gap might help? If so who might have one suitable for the floating ribbit?
  20. So I ordered a bunch of Stanley's floating Ribbits in spring. The wife and I went out and gave them a try. They cast very well and were devastating. Being able to leave them sit until the cast settled down, then twitch, swim, buzz, it drove the fish nuts. We caught bass, northern, musky darn near everything that swims in the water we fish. SO WHAT'S THE PROBLEM? Simply HOOK_UP. We are going on 64, have carpal and arthritis so maybe it is at least partially our fault. We use medium/heavy seven foot rods with braided on both my casting rods, and her spinning rods. I don't think we would be able to cast these out adequately with heavy action rods. We have gotten out of the habit of multiple hook sets after ripping a few hooks out, when we switched to braided. We rig them by pushing the hook all the way through, then skin hooking them in the groove provided. I wondered about the hooks. These have a slight curl in them for skin hooking, but with the density of this material, maybe they are driving them back into the ribbit??? Northern and musky generally hook themselves, but not so with bass. Sometimes they seem to be hooked only to get them near the boat and have them let go. They do hang on to these for a long time. I guess Stanley says they put fat in them to float (?). I don't know if it is taste or texture, but they hold on to them. In short I wondered if anyone else uses these and if they had the same problems. Did you find a solution. I guess we could try to remember to go back to hitting them several times. I would prefer an alternative. In any case we will continue to use them as long as our heart can take the explosive strikes.
  21. I love the Stanley floating Ribbit. Swim them in the slop, stop in a hole twitch, then back over the slop, buzz the small channels. We just started to use them and all I can say is WOW!
  22. I can't believe none of you youngsters know the answer to this problem..., Well, I'll tell ya. 1. Invite your women to go fishing with you the next day. 2. When she is getting ready, tell her you hear that a friend and his wife were also supposed to be fishing, and you might meet up at the boat landing. 3. When she is doing her hair tell her how pretty she looks and smells, but your worried that the wind and fish smell might spoil it. She will put on a second can of spray, and dosing of perfume. 4. When you get to your fishing spot put her WAY in the back of the boat. The bugs will be attracted to the smell of the perfume, and the hair spray will get them stuck. Oh yeah tell her something must have happened to your friends. (GEEZ! you got to teach kids everything) :
  23. Glad you said that about VanDam's spray. I used to use WD40 on Mono (it worked) but didn't know what to use on floro. I also tied one end to a tree and walked out farther then I could cast and stretched the mono. Do you think this would work for floro?
  24. ????????????? I'm just askin' You could be right. Haha, I was joking. ;D ;D ;D
  25. ????????????? I'm just askin' You could be right.
