  1. You can use them for any technique, as long as the lure weights more than 1/4oz. It doesn't handle well lighter baits.
  2. That's a fine worming rod, don't exchange it! Try to set the hook later(or sooner ?) after you feel the bite until you get used to the new rod. You gotta get a rhitm goin' and the juices flowin'.... On a side note, When I got my first Avid I was setting the hook on every blade of grass and stick; everithing seemed to be "a bite" because the rod is so sensitive. So, when you feel a "bite", double-check by reeling in the slack (if any) and keeping the line tight until you feel movement( the bass swims away or drops the bait) to confirm that YES, IT'S A BITE or NO, IT'S JUST A SNAG. You might loose some fish at the beginning, but once you get used to how a bite feels with the new rod, you will never look back !!!
  3. I totally agree with PondHunter, especially about the "piping" effect. This fenomenon is even more evident when using fluorocarbon line. As long as you have open water, 4lb line and a long limber rod will land any bass. I sometimes use 4lb fluoro leader while dropshotting (most of the times is 6 lb); the main line being 10lb braid. (6-6 med-light Daiwa rod, 2000 size Daiwa Capricorn).I check my line very often and retie immediately if I feel the smallest nick in the line. On the other side, i dont think bass is so line shy that you would need 4lb main line consistently.

Noooo, Scales are good ! Just grab the fishes tail and pull gently untill the numbers match your "expectations". Now get somebody to take a picture of the top half of the fish and the scale (showing the"right" digits) and you got yourself a new world record bass....
  5. I'd just like to mention the Daiwa SOL. Used it for lighter cranks, jerkbaits, light top water and plastics with #8 line without any problems. I think the weight of the bait is more important than the size of the line...
  6. I have an Avid AVC76MHMF rod comming; I didn't fish it so i can't recomand it yet, but the guys at StCroix say that this is a rod designed specifically for flipping / pitching in weeds and light/medium cover (not thick mats or wood jungles like in the southern states). You might wanna check it out.... Anybody used it yet ???
  7. Why not just use your spinnerbait rod, if you have a dedicated SB rod??? It's a similar bait in a different configuration, same heavy wire hooks. It's a realatively fast moving bait, so you don't need that much sensitivity; don't sink too much money in it ! Any decent 6-6 or 7-0 med.heavy/fast rod would do, in most peoples opinion. I preffer a something closer to a mod.fast action. Why do I preffer mod.fast when most guy would go for fast or even Xfast ? I tried SBs on StCroix, Fenwick and Shimano rods (all true fast action) and ended up with a 66 MH BPS Graphite Series rod because of it's slower action (even though BPS labels it "fast") loaded better at casting, alowing for more accurate casts, and the number of "bumps" decreased, converting into more hook-ups. The fact that the BPS rod bends easier and deeper in the blank alowes the fish to suck in the SB, the hook ending up in the mouth of the fish. A stiffer rod would not allowe the SB to move from its trajectory into the fishes mouth when the fish follows the bait and stops at the moment of the mouth opening ( "vacuming"in the vater and the prey). The stiff rod and the continuous reeling will pull out the bait from the fishes mouth. On an agressive bite, when the fish "drives through" the bait, it doesn't make a real difference. It's just my opinion, and I stick with it...
  8. Goodness gracious !!! Annother "BLING, BLING GIMME YOUR MONEY !!!" I'll just stick with the "tried and true".... St Croix, Fenwick, Shimano,Daiwa, Abu, Dobins, Powel etc, etc, etc. All have great rods in that price range. ( maybe a couple bux more, but worth it)
  9. You can Flip with any reel that has a solid drag. I am using a Zillion (7:1) for pitching and love it.
  10. I owned reels from 8 different companies and in the last 5-6 years I kinda gravitated toward Daiwa. I wouldn't know about their customer service because i never needed it. Second choice would be Shimano
  11. Cabelas has it on clearance, 1/4lb and filler spools, clear and green. If you need to stock up or just whant to try it out, now it's the moment !
  12. Any style, any size, any time, anywhere....
  13. As previously stated, you can swim any kind of jigs. Just because a company markets a certain style as a "swim jig", it doesn't mean that's the only thing that will catch them. I use predominantly a white-ish jig (Booya, Strike king most of the time) with a single tail 4" grub with the curl pointing down. The grub could be white, clear or smoke with silver sparcle, chartreuse or glow. Sometimes I'll go with a green pumpkin-ish or black/blue jig with a matching grub. I almost always cut the weedguard compleatly off.(I 'm fishing mostly weedy areas, not brush or logs)
  14. If I remember corectly one of the components of WD40 if fish oil, so it is possible that any predatory fish species would be attracted to it. I never tryed it ,though. It is possible that the other components (chemicals) in WD40 could damage your lure/bait. I would try to soak an old/dammaged lure for a while in it to see if any damage will occure before spraying any of the new/expensive ones.
  15. IMHO the best top water & jerkbait rod is the Avid AVC66MF. It's a fast action but it has a soft, forgiving tip. At least that's what I am using and I don't plan on ever using another brand/model for these baits.
  16. Thanks for shareing. Great info
  17. St Croix Avid AVC66MF paired with a Daiwa Sol, 10# mono/copoly. I use the same combo for jerkbaits and sometimes for shallow cranks and "power" dropshot rigs
  18. Excellent read !!! thanks for posting the link
  19. It somehow reminds me of Stanley Laurel and Oliver Hardy. LMAO
  20. Thanks, I'll stop by tomorow
  21. Good job, young man !!!

I have a pair of Frog Togs, served me well for over 5 years. I keep them rolled up tightly, in the boat, and use them only when needed. If you decide to go with them, make sure you buy the set that comes with BIBS, not pants.
  23. Super dooper read !!! This should be set as an article. Thanks for posting
