  1. Picked up a slightly used 873c ccr nrx. It’s so light and feels great in the hand, not really sure what it’s best use for me will be as I rarely fish a Carolina rig. But I feel it’s action will be great for any bottom contact bait.
  2. I just received a levente perfect pitch last week. I bought it for use as a frog rod. It’s power is definitely a bit lighter than the rods I’ve used for frogs in the past. But it works very well so far. Easy to add walking and popping action to the frogs and the lighter tip definitely helps cast the smaller frogs too. Also I wouldn’t hesitate to use it for both bottom contact and larger treble hooked too waters like walking and plopping lures. This is my second Megabass rod, the other bring the brigand, both of them have excellent build quality, look sharp and are very light in the hand. I would have no qualms recommending it for what you want it for.
  3. Definitely the medium power and moderate to fast for my top water popper and smaller walking baits. Also something slightly shorter, in the 6’10” range as poppers require a fair bit of accuracy to present close to cover but not get caught up in it.
  4. For a 3/8 oz jig a Loomis 3 power is a perfect match. The 893 or 853 to be specific. May be out of your price range but would be worth it to save up or look for something used. Jigs are one presentation where I like to use the most sensitive rod I can afford.
  5. Paca chunk, paca craw, twin tail grub. But mostly it’s the grub, it’s become a confidence bait.
  6. They are one of my go to baits in some of the ponds I fish. I fish a Keitech 3.8 or a 4” kvd swimming shiner on a 1/8oz weighted screwlock hook. Just toss it any where and give it a slow/pause retrieve. I also like throwing them into cover and letting it drop in the holes, pulling it up over the top and dropping it in the next hole. My favourite rod to throw it on is a mbr 782c or the 852c with 10 or 12lb test on a mgextreme reel.
  7. I have a couple rods I’m using for dropshot these days. Got a Megabass brigand which is above your price range but I’m really digging it. Next I use a 7’ ml zodias which has served me very well and now has been relegated to my ned rig rod. I do very much believe that the zodias fishes above its price point and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.
  8. Started out the year with great success on a finesse jig, either a bitsy or a siebert. Then when the grass started to grow it’s been a great fluke bite with a t-rig creature as a close second. This warm weather now should get the frog bite turned on though!
  9. I just picked up a glx 894c fpr. When it arrived it felt like it was heavier action than I hoped it would be. But took it on the water today for some pitching and it comes alive when it’s fished and it’s exactly what I was looking for.
  10. I’ve always used maxima ultra green. I started out salmon and steelhead fishing where it was mainline and leaders, on flyrod any tippet over 10lbs goes maxima, and now for bass fishing I use it for leaders on the reels with braid. It’s got a good amount of shock absorbion, abrasion resistance, and ties an awesome knot. Way over test though so you can drop down a couple pounds on strength, use 8 where you would normally use 10 or go by diameter as compared to what you usually use.
  11. That bantam is the best low profile salmon steelhead reel I have found to date. With the one piece aluminum frame it just feels solid in the hand and proves it on the water.
  12. The only difference with the 10 instead of 15 is the reduced diameter which will give your reel a great capacity and also perhaps a increase in casting distance with the lighter line. Both of which are minor issues so tie on some 7lb sniper flouro and bobs your uncle.
  13. I use mostly a 3/0 ewg owner or Gamakatsu. I vary between a light, regular and heavy wire and also adjust the rigging depending on depth I want to fish.
  14. I use an 804c imxpro for some early season light frogging. But I do use frogs with lighter wire hooks and generally the grass isn’t so thick yet. But later on I move up to 7’4” rod that can bomb the frogs a lot further and drive those large hooks home.
  15. Sometimes I wish didn’t buy a glx Loomis. Now I have a locker full of glx and nrx and even a destroyer, but my wallet is a lot lighter now. But you only live once and may as well enjoy it.
  16. I’d buy one, if they shipped to Canada. I do have one black widow edge 703c. It has a more moderate action compared to a Loomis equivalent, which isn’t really a bad thing. Casts finesse Swimbaits and small poppers like a dream.
  17. Some form of black for the dirty water, a translucent watermelon or brownish marroon for the clear, and green pumpkin if you only could have one colour. Ps. Sometimes a little bit of highlight with a dye pen makes it stand out and may get a couple extra bites.
  18. Plastics are on of the biggest scourge on our environment. Especially in our oceans, lakes and rivers where fish and other marine creatures accumulate the chemicals from plastics within there systems leading to behavioural changes, reduced reproductive capacity, reduced survival of young. We should all be doing our part to recycle all plastics we come across in all aspects of our lives and try to select products with less packaging and high recyclability and recycled content. Congratulations on a great idea. I’d love to be able to send you my used plastics and purchase some of your recycled baits. Kids like you give me hope for the future of this planet. Sorry for lousing it up.
  19. I use a jdm alderbaren mgl 30 on mine. Unbelievably light combo.
  20. I use a Kistler tops and tails 6’9” medium for lighter and a 6’9” kistler crt medium heavy for the bigger walking baits.
  21. I fish lots of small 1/8 to 1/4 jigs. I have two rods an 852c glx, with a alpha ct loaded with 10# flouro, the other is an 853c nrx with an alderbaren loaded with 12# flouro. This all works great in light cover areas but when the weeds get thicker and the fish get back into the cover I’ll fish 30# straight braid or braid to a 15# maxima ultra green leader. And any jigs over 1/2 oz always get fished on braid or braid to leader.
  22. Bought a h3 71mhxf over the winter and finally fished it today. Gotta say, it’s a great little rod. Nice crisp fast action, feels light in the hand and has great sensitivity. I bought it to fish single hook reaction baits but I had no qualms doing some light pitching and casting a t-rig.
  23. It balances well. And you have the right idea to get a 7’ plus length. That’s the only thing I wish was to get something slightly longer like the 852s
  24. Can I have more favourites than just one. For heavy stuff, I just love the new Shimano bantam, it’s probably the best low profile salmon steelhead reel I’ve found to date. For light stuff, I do like the jdm alderbaren 30 but recently I ordered the new alpha ctsv and it’s awesome. It beats the heck out of the alpha 105sv and even like it better than the zillion I have.
  25. I use a nrx803s for senkos. One thing though if I could go back in time, I’d buy something with a minimum 7’ length or longer, just able to move a little more line on the set and a little more distance on the cast.
