  1. Actually I never really thought about it much. I will say you do have a solid point. I may have to try that out first. As for a response on the other comments, I usually work these baits in about 5-15 foot of water. I like the XF (all my finesse spinning rods are XF) but I worry that the XF tip won’t be able to handle my hooksets. Is this a legit worry or am I overthinking it?
  2. Hey there everyone, I hope everyone is doing well. So I’m looking at getting another Texas rig rod for throwing in some moderate weed cover. I’m in Minnesota near Bemidji so large mats aren’t super common where I’m at. I currently have a 7’ MH Fast St. Croix Legend X and I love it. I want something that might be a big more sensitive but still good power and hook setting ability. I also want to try a longer rod, maybe a 7’4 or so. I can’t decide if a Fast tip would be better or if I should try a X-Fast tip. I’ve heard a lot of people only use fast but I’d love to hear what everyone thinks on the matter. Usually I’m throwing a 1/4 ounce Texas rig with a craw/creature bait. I am planning on Sticking with St. Croix but I would love to hear everyone thoughts.
  3. I also kinda want to try to stretch this into small swimbaits. I’m taking like 3 inch or so.
  4. Good afternoon everyone! I’ve just started looking at my gear and I’ve decided to pick up another finesse bass rod that I was also hoping to use for jigging for some walleyes too at times. I currently have a 6’8” MXF St Croix Legend Elite and I am wondering what you guys think would be a good length and power? I was thinking M or ML between a 6’6”- 7’ rod and most likely keep that XF tip. I would love to hear your opinions.
  5. My only issue is that I’m fishing in Minnesota and the fish aren’t huge and I’m not all that used to fishing with a MH for anything I need to feel bites.
  6. Good evening everyone. So I had an opinion question on some Texas rig fishing. So I went out and bought a 6’8” Medium Fast St. Croix Legend X and I’ve noticed that I’m not getting clean hooksets. Some days I’ll nail every fish that bites and then others I’ll miss half the fish that bite. My question is would it be better to switch up to a 7’1” Medium fast to get better hooksets? Or should I stick with the rod I have and just focus on the making sure I get good hooksets?
  7. Hello everyone, I hope everyone’s days are going well. Ive been thinking a bit about restocking the frogs a bit and maybe try a few new ones. But I thought I would ask some other bass fisherman their opinions. So what do you guys think is the best topwater frog? I personally have tried spro and the booyah pad crashed the most. I like them both but the pad crashers price is better. Anybody got any suggestions for better frogs? Thanks and happy fishing!! Thomas
  8. Good afternoon everyone. So I have heard a few places that sell cheaper tungsten and I’ve looked on here at a few posts. I’m curious on any other possible good places to get some cheap tungsten. I’m always a bit nervous about buying something online and it not coming or taking a month to arrive and a few places have been like that. Anyone got any good suggestions?
  9. I appreciate the thoughts everyone!! I was kinda looking at a St. Croix Mojo glass. I have a new Legend X coming to add but I don’t wanna spend too much right now since I’m just getting into squarebills.
  10. Good evening everyone! Hope everyone is doing well and catching fish. So I ran into a slight predicament and I’m curious to everyone’s thoughts! I’m just starting to use squarebills more for bass but don’t really have a specific rod for it. I’m not sure if it’s best to get a moderate like I’ve heard. I also don’t know between a medium action or a medium heavy. I usually throw the 1.5 KVD square bills but occasionally I go bigger with the 2.5. I’m curious to everyone’s thoughts on the power and action rod I should get. Thanks and happy fishing!!! Thomas O
  11. I am curious as to everyone thoughts on the best topwater frog. I usually fish lily pads and I tend to fish spro frogs since it’s a bit heavier. I prefer frogs about 1/2 oz to 3/4 oz. What’s your thoughts on the best frog in your opinion? Thanks, Thomas
  12. Thanks guys. These answers are extremely helpful!!
  13. I like using a medium. It’s easy to fish all day and I have control. But once you said bank fishing then I have to say MH. It casts farther than a medium, has more power and cast still give u the sensitivity you need. It’s a good rod for just about anything. You gotta pull fish through the nasty slop around you so MH would be best. If you are looking at another after the MH then that’s where I’d would start doing technique specific gear. Like a rod specifically for top water or plastics and something. Start with one overall one and branch out as time goes. Hope this helps.
  14. I personally found that casting lighter frogs around 1/2 oz. is difficult with a heavy action. The rod I was using just wasn’t meant for it. I personally found the a 7’0” MHF works well for me. I catch quite a few large bass and it seems to do just fine. I like using a reel 7.1:1 or faster. I use a Abu Garcia Revo SX. This max drag is 26lbs and stops everything in its tracks. But a heavier frog like a 5/8th is needed for a long cast. Short casts are a breeze tho. Hope this helps
  15. That’s how I felt. Plus the fish here aren’t as big as Florida or Texas. Jigs over 1/4 I almost immediately switch to a MH
