  1. I feel like crayfish are like the Senkos of live bait. Really effective but really only good for one fish.
  2. You could try a circle hook and just reel to set it.
  3. Hard to say which is better. Nightcrawlers are easier to come by. Hellgrammites are awesome also if it's the right time of year. I'm not above cracking open freshwater mussels and using pieces of them. Ditto with tadpoles.
  4. I joined. I'll save the research for next season. I chose just on name recognition and random chance.
  5. I went back to the first post. I see the group name and password, but where to I go to join? What kind of group is this?
  6. The river I grew up on had lots of muskies (relatively speaking) and I've caught several, but never a legal sized one. I've hooked some big ones, but I was always fishing for smallmouth. Usually 8-10 lb mono and inline spinners. I was high up on a bank one time, fishing a Mepps Redbo when a muskie grabbed it, twitched his head, cut the line, and dropped the lure. I never felt a thing. If I hadn't been watching, I wouldn't have known what happened. I walked out into the river and retrieved the lure. I hooked a big one on a floating rapala, and it tore away and left a little chunk of cheek on my treble. I watched someone catch the same fish, same spot, about a week later. They get the pulse pounding for sure.
  7. The boat may have come with some ethanol fuel in it, but all I've added is ethanol free.
  8. Yeah, I've been thinking about the frame thing.
  9. Yes. It came with a cover, but it isn't much good. I'll probably put a heavy duty tarp over the whole thing.
  10. Had to look up fogging the cylinders.
  11. I know it's early, even for the tip top of NY, but I'm wondering what should be done to winterize the boat, for those of you who have to. I'm thinking this: 1. Drain lower unit. 2. Remove batteries and store in a warm place. 3. Remove fishfinder. 4. Open up all the drains, plugs, etc. 5. Use a watertight cover on the boat. What about the fuel that might be left over? What else did I miss?
  12. I want to make sure to get into this next season.
  13. This will probably be moved to the "Other Species" category. I love pike fishing but I don't know the answer to your question.
  14. Kastking Royale Legend
  15. No. My first baitcaster was a Daiwa Millionaire I bought in the late 70s. I loved that reel.
  16. The baitcaster is new. I've used spiderwire for years but nothing this heavy. I'm probably just not used to it. I too have not had any issues with break offs. Bite offs are a different story.
  17. Yeah, it's probably just me, but it feels thick.
  18. I think I'm using 10lb braid on my spinning setup. It hasn't been a problem.
  19. I'm fishing with 3 rigged rods. Two casters and a spinning rig. At the advice of folks on this board I've got my M/H baitcaster spooled with 30lb braid. I'm using Spiderwire. It's OK, but it feels like I'm using a thick cable on my reel and I'm not casting great. Is spiderwire thicker than other braids? I've used braid before and always spiderwire. It's inexpensive and easily available locally. But I don't think I've gone this heavy.
  20. Still, it was somewhat poetic.
  21. Looks like Arkie makes all kinds of jig head styles.
  22. I mean, which style will adequately perform the same role of some other types of jigs? After all, they are all little hunks of lead with hooks attached. Does a ball head jig actually do anything that a swim jig can't do? I won't be getting a Christmas cards from tackle companies, but I think we're being taken for a bit of a ride here.
  23. I was trying to figure out if the title of your post was written in iambic pentameter but it doesn't look like it qualifies.
