Snuck over to Fork today.....
and got skunked. It was one of those days that should have been good. About four days into a good warming trend after cold weather. I was expecting at least a couple quality fish. Any how here's the play by play so if anyone is going they might have a little extra insight. Got on the water at 9am sunny skys, light breeze, forecasted high of around 75. Headed up to the flats/timber at the end of the boat channel in Glade. Started fishing in about 10' of stained water throwing cranks/ spinnerbaits until the water shallowed a bit and the hydrilla got a bit thicker in about 8' of water. Chunked the red trap into the grass a good while swapping out with the spinnerbait. As the water shallowed to around 5' the grass got thick and nice and green. Fished a suspending Rogue in gold/orange belly/black back over the grass. Moved across to the east shore of Glade to check out a pond dam in 15' of water. Graphed the dam and it was only about a 3' rise so fished it a few minutes with a crank/ flipped a couple cedars near by and moved on. Fished the real nice point between Glade and Lake Fork Creek. It's a nice point leading to spawning flats with water from 3' on top to 20' around the outside, hydrilla and timber everywhere. Tried out a newly released bait from a friends company. It was a Strike Pro segmented jerk bait. Looked awsome in the water but will have to wait for another day to break it in. Tried the trap again as well as a shakey head on the deeper edge. Moved over to Rogers and graphed the east 515 bridge on the way. Marked some baitfish in 25' so stopped for a quick jigging spoon session. Followed the creek back into Rogers and found the grass all dead. Fished all the way to the back and then followed the north shoreline out. Being one of those days you wished you could be bed fishing I kept an eye on the shallows. They were lifeless, no shad, no bream, no bass.....except for one. I couldn't believe what I had seen. A small bass sitting on a bed in about a foot of water. He spooked off as I got closer and I didn't hang around to see if he came back. He'll be waiting a while since a cold front is coming this weekend. Moved over to Coon Creek and fished a bit deeper. Tried the shakey head with a Robo floating worm, jig with craw, deep diving crank, etc. It was close to quiting time but gave the Glade grass one more shot before loading up. Stopped by Lake Fork Tackle in Emory to drop off a couple curados to be cleaned. It seemed that one of their sponsored fishermen was in there. The LFT guy brought out a big empty box and this guy started filling it up!! Must be nice, lol. Oh well, great day to be on the water. I'll try again next week. big

Anybody Going to the Classic
Thanks for all the advice guys! I've got all the new hats/autograph stuff gathered up. Hope some pros will be around after the weigh in. Coupons, free tackle, fried shrimp...I may loose my mind :o , lol. I can't wait to get on the smoker and head for B-ham. My boy has come down with the flu but we got him to the Dr. and he's feeling better already. OBF small world huh. How's Alabama treating you? Hows the fishing compare? big

How did you catch your HUGE smallmouth?
Here's my pb smallie caught in Lake Texoma Nov of 05. It was 4.4 lbs. caught on a deep crankbait and the kicker fish I need to win a small club tourny. I know it doesn't look like it but it was a couple hundred dollar fish. I was backseating with a friend and had mentioned how much I'd like to land a good smallie that morning. I love those smallmouth and am in *** of the guys who are close to great fisheries!

2nd annual BR.com roadtrip!!!
Thanks for the invite. I'll likely be around to meet your group in person. Fishermans Cove is where I caught my personal best, just an 8 1/2 which isn't that great by Fork standards. The small bridge at the Cove has the remains of the old bridge submerged just about 15' to the west. If you go under the bridge with the graph on you'll see what I mean. I had just caught a 7 then on the next cast caught the other. This was in Feb a few years ago. The next year we went to try it again as it semed to be a staging area for the fish moving into the shallows. A boat was already on the spot when we got there and we got to watch him pull out a nine! He was alone so we took the picture for him before he released her. Anyway, good choice for lodging. Don't lock the rod boxes. Empty them. big

2nd annual BR.com roadtrip!!!
Hi fellers! I'm a first time poster on the board and noticed your trip thread. I'm real proud that so many fishermen would travel so far to visit our local lakes. I've been fishing Fork regularly since around '88 or so and love the place. I wish everyone the best of luck. It's been a colder than usual winter so I wouldn't expect the fish to be bedded up yet unless the sun comes out tomorrow and stays out until you get here. Water temps are around 48 right now. Should be a real nice prespawn bite in fairly shallow water though. If you are bringing your boat please remember to take your tackle inside for the night. We have a rash of thefts every year around this time. I've got a Media tourny there on the 11th and a small club tourny on the 18th. With the prefishing I'll be doing I could probably post up some reports just before your trip. big
