G Loomis BRC893 GLX Senko Rod
I guess I'll throw in my two pennys worth on this subject. I love to fish a weightless Senko, I'd call it my go to bait for sure. The great thing about the lure is that the action is built in on the fall. Watch the lure wiggle as it falls in clear water, it's something that the knockoffs don't copy well. To get the most wiggle out of the lure it needs to be fished on a slack line. Rather than try to feel the bite it's easier to see the bite in the line. IMO, a super sensitive rod like a Loomis would be overkill for this technique. I use a 6 1/2' - 7' Falcon Original or Lowrider, both under a $100, with good results. These rods will cast the bait farther than it would be practical to fish them. How far can you cast and still get a good hook set? How far can you throw into cover and expect to get a fish out? At any rate, I don't know anybody that wouldn't like to have a few GLX's including me. big

What line do you prefer to use?
I'm trying the Gamma copolymer now too Ben. I'm on about my sixth spool of 12 and 14 lb test. I like the strength but not as much as the P line I was using. I like the low memory, I like the abrasion resistance, I like the price/rebate thing they have on now. $7.88 a roll at my local Academy and buy two get one free coupon to boot.

BPS Pro Qualifier Rods?
I got one as part of a curado combo deal on sale. It was $229 for the 100D and this rod. It's an ok rod, I'd never give $119 for it and probably not $79. It's been passed down to my son now. A Falcon Lowrider can be found on sale at that price from time to time. Also, if you can find a Berkley Series One it's a great rod, light and sensitive, for that kind of money. JMHO, big

News on the fork guys?
Hi Cameron, good to see you over on this board. The SAL didn't come from the BR guys I'm sorry to say. The wind laid down some in the morning but kicked up again before lunch. I had a great time fishing with Alpster but we never really got anything going. Fished Mustang, Coon/Longbranch, Glade, and Brady& Sons (cove on NE side of 288). Ended up with a half dozen dinks on pumpkin senkos and one on a culprit frog. RW and Fivebasslimit think they are on to a secret spot and have high hopes for tomorrow. Glenn had a little bit of boat trouble but got it fixed, Triton 21 and crew had several nice fish in the 4-5 lb range caught in the mid lake west fork area. One of the mooks had trolling motor issues. Seemed the more gas he gave it the more it wanted to turn right. big

2nd annual BR.com roadtrip!!!
I just got home from the big gumbo dinner at Fishermans Cove. WOW!!! Talk about good eats. Fishing was pretty tough today with the high wind. I stayed in one cove all day and had 5 fish from 1-4 lbs. Going to fish with Alpster tomorrow morning. The weather should be better so maybe someone will get another big one like Triton's.

2nd annual BR.com roadtrip!!!
Stopped by the cove after my tournament on Fork today. Got to meet a great bunch of guys and one mook. Everybody was settling in for some rest after their long travels but seemed excited about getting on the water tomorrow. The wind was a bit rough on the lake today and the fish that had been bedded were nowhere to be seen. A day or two of sunshine and it'll be back on. I'm gassed up, chargers hooked up, and ready to hit it again in the morning. big

Bigger Bass with Eye Bulge
Not that I've ever caught one myself but I think around here it's something seen in 10lb plus fish. At least that's what others have told me.

spot remover
Great jig heads. I prefer the lighter ones like 1/8th oz to be sure the floating worm stands up well. The hooks are a little soft and will bend but remember it's finesse fishing and it'll work ok.

Does anybody expect to be to Fork Sunday afternoon? My tournament is over around 5pm and I thought I'd stop by and say hello if anybody was around. Is most of the group staying at Fishermens Cove?

My last Fork trip....
this week . Fished again on Tuesday with some pretty good luck. Went up in Glade under overcast skys and sprinkles in the morning. Temp were 60s-70s and water was 64. Spent most of the morning fishing a slow swimming lizzard after Chad had some good hookups on his new Powerbait motoroil/ green flake baits. He ended up breaking off three nice 5lb. plus fish by making mile long casts into the timber. Never had a chance to get them out before they were wrapped up and gone, :'(. He's learning. The sun came out mid day and we went to find a few bed fish. Found a large female on a bed maybe 8-10 lbs. and Chad got her hooked up on a frog for a few second before she came unbuttoned. She came back but didn't have much interest after that. Found a few on a road bed that were fresh and bit quickly. Camera died so these pics are off the phone. Wandered around the grass flats finding bed fish mostly relating to timber picking up a few more. Some good old boys reminded us a storm was coming and when the wind kicked up we loaded up and headed for home. The storm was a pretty good one and had the truck hydroplaning at times. Spoke to RW Husker on the ride home and he reported some pretty good fish but a little bit low on head count. Today he said the storm shut down the bite pretty good. I'm sure he'll report when he's back to the computer. Didn't realize at the time we were fishing the same road bed maybe 50 yards apart. big mageshack.us]

Another Fork Report
Strange as it would seem, same cove and same day. It thinned out some in the afternoon but still plenty of boats around. The public ramps are all full, parking in the grass on weekends this time of year. I was going to go back today but it looks like heavy rain. Will try again tomorrow. BTW, I'll make some calls and get your RR report this week. big

3/11/07--Two Ocmulgee PFA Bass
How would you like to be the first male that finds it's way into that lake, lol. ;D I'm not familiar with the F1 term, can you explain it a little more and why the fishes mouths are so small? Thanks, big

lake fork swimbaits.
I've only fished them weightless over grass like a fluke or senko so far. They look great in the water but have not got me any fish yet. I think they would do well on a jig head or carolina rig too. For those coming on the board trip the LFT store is only about 10 miles from the lake. Just go west on 515 until the road ends in Emory. On the other side of the intersection is the store. They have some different sizes of the live magic shad available that they are not shipping yet. There are tons of their baits for sale but the prices are the same as anywhere else. There is a story on this bait that Mark Pack (LFT) guided some japanese anglers and allowed them to use some of the prototypes made from a bondo mold. They took the ball and ran with it once they got home.

Why do co. use junkie treble hooks?
Yep, those hooks on my beloved rat l traps stink. I see they have a new line of them out now. Anybody know if the hooks are better now?

Costa Del Mar Tropic Star Glasses
Not the same style but for what it's worth. I bought the Fluid ILS's to be able to change from the grey, to amber, to copper for bass fishing. I love the glasses but they did loosen after a while and I ended up loosing one of the grey lenses. Rather than paying $40 for a new lense I bough a pair of grey wave killers.

when is fishing not fun?
TLBassin, been there...feel your pain.

when is fishing not fun?
Getting caught in a thunder storm while in a 8' bass buster (the early days) an hour ride on a near dead battery from the truck. Getting to the truck and the battery won't start the truck, lol. Getting caught in a hail storm (lucky to have found an empty boat house) on Fork. Walking 2 hours to the end of the Bolivar jetty only to turn around and realize there's a storm on shore and it's following me out. No place to hide from the lightning and the waves were starting to blow over the jetty. Greed has got me into some not so fun situations. Now I'm a little more in control of the addiction and pick and choose the days better. Oh, one non weather incident. 48 miles offshore from Freeport, TX an hour before dark last fall, just me and a buddy in his 26' twin vee. Power for the VHF, Sirius, radar, and GPS is lost. No problem, pull out the back up GPS but it won't get a signal for some reason. Compass needed adjustment and was not accurate but who needs one if you have two GPS's onboard right? I'm a electronics tech and always go offshore with a tool kit and a meter. Start trouble shooting inside the center console in 3-4' chop and get seasick doing it. The buss/ground everything was tied into had 12v but nothing was working. As it was getting dark stopped to discuss our safety plan and everthing turned back on by itself. Hauled A for home, later found a poorly crimper connector inside the Perko switch for the battery. Not fun for a little while but a needed reality check at the same time. big
