  1. I'm finding a lot of boats in my price range, but it varies with age and brand name. For instance, I can find a 1995 Nitro for $7000... the same year Ranger is $13,000. I don't want to sacrifice quality, but it would be nice to find a newer model in a "cheaper" brand.
  2. Well it turns out almost nobody in South Dakota has ever owned a champion! (99% walleye fisherman) So it wont be easy finding myself a champion, or any decent glass boat for that matter. I'll definitely keep champion in mind though.
  3. Is there any specific reasons? I’ve been hearing more and more about champions, and they’re definitely interesting. But are they faster? More stable? Built better?
  4. Never had a fiberglass boat, but I’m in the market for one.. under 10k. That means I’ll be buying used, and I’d just like to know what you think some of the more quality boats from 15+ years ago are. I know there are a few older hulls that a lot of guys swear by. And I’m prepared to hunt for a decent deal. Thanks in advance!
  5. As far as I know the boat has been well taken care of, it’s from a family friend who has 3 boats and just needs the extra room. His exact words “There is absolutely nothing wrong with it and the transom is solid, small chips on bottom in gel coat but not through to the fiberglass”. I’ve never had a fiberglass or a boat over 16ft for that matter ? but at a good price why not right??
  6. An old friend of my brothers is selling a 1997 Nitro Savage 912 with 225 merc for a pretty decent price, and may even let me get a better deal on it. I’ve never had a fiberglass boat, but as far as I know they’re solid as long as you can maintain them. So my question is.. What are your thoughts on 20+ year old glass boats? Are they worth the hassle? And has anyone had this boat specifically? Thanks in advance!
  7. What kind of benefit do gunnel straps offer? I've already got transom straps
  8. That’s what I wanted to hear, it does have that little flip down mechanism. But I read somewhere that those still rely on the transom to hold the weight, as opposed to the bar style which transfers it to the trailer. But you’re saying thats no good correct?
  9. Will the cheapo from walmart work for my small-ish 25 horse motor? I suppose something is better than nothing.
  10. Exactly why I made this post, I'm really trying to keep my tackle selection as "small" as possible with solid go-to baits.
  11. Right I was thinking of a good DIY method and I was thinking about a tie down just to keep it tight and not bouncing around. I definitely fish a lot of dirt road lakes off the beaten path so I'll look into something like that.. or I can get a transom saver at wal mart for like $30 I believe so maybe it is worth it?
  12. Everyone has their own opinion on the subject, but that's usually a topic for bigger boats with motors to match.. I'm askin for the small boat guys, I've got a 1996 crestliner fish hawk 16 with a 25hp Johnson tiller on it. Do you think I'll be alright trailering it without a transom saver? I know it's a simple and cheap item but the motor itself cant weigh more than 150lb and the transom seems solid to me. Thanks!
  13. What colors make up the majority of your tackle? I know there are a million different colors for specific presentations nowadays. But if you could only carry a handful of colors in any given bait, what would they be? I'm curious to see what everyone considers a staple in different water, and feel free to explain why!
  14. That’s what I wanted to hear! Kind of feel like I’m getting in over my head with this “little” boat but it’s a tool and I’m gonna use it as such.
  15. Haha! I only say that because the rod is on sale multiple places as opposed to the reel being full price. Wow that’s a really good point.. Shimano and Daiwa are just “reel” companies if you asked the majority of fisherman. From what I’m reading online Shimano rods fish above their price point for the most part. And I would go ahead and link that to the fact that they’re “reel” companies and most people aren’t seeking out their rods consistently enough for them to mark up the price. I could be wrong though.
  16. Exactly my thoughts haha I got a 10% off deal on a $140 combo ??
  17. I went ahead and ordered the combo, I’ve been wanting to try the reel out and at the price I found the rod is only costing me $30! Can’t beat it if you ask me
  18. Just ordered the combo today ? I’m excited to try it out
  19. No doubt about it! They’re great guys and really do push quality, not just one brand. The fact that Tim Little went from using a Dobyns Fury (my main rod currently) to an SLX combo speaks for itself.
  20. Awesome, thank you! As long as it’s a solid rod I think I’ll go ahead and pick it up. Can’t hurt to have a back up if I don’t enjoy fishing with it either.
  21. Would you consider the slx to be a little more stiff than the fury? I have the fury 704c and hoping to get something a bit more heavy power That’s very true! But I’ve heard through the grapevine that they receive a prettttyyy sweet deal from Shimano at little to no cost. ? Just want some first hand personal opinions.
  22. Now I know the SLX has been a big topic recently, but mainly the reel. I’m starting to find solid deals on the rod, which makes me wonder if it’s worth picking one up? For instance I found the casting combo at a good price online but I already have a Dobyns fury sitting without a reel.. Should I pick up the combo anyway? I’d rather save a few bucks and buy just the reel if the rod is junk. Let me know what you guys think of the rod! Thanks
  23. I’m about to pick one up myself... how stiff is it? I’m looking for a real heavy stick
  24. That is a great deal.. I already have a Dobyns waiting for a reel. But at that price I’d be trying out the reel and getting the rod for $26. Any reviews on the rod? The only option left on American legacy is 7’ 2” heavy. I do need a real heavy stick.. will this work? My dobyns fury 704 isn’t as heavy as I had thought so it’s now an all around texas rig/jig rod.
