  1. Are you familiar with any Shimano spinning rods? I’ve been looking at the Expride and the zodias. Pricier but i hear they are super sensitive.
  2. Budget around $500 total. I was thinking Shimano Expride A Spinning Rod with Ci4 reel but i haven’t seen many reviews on the rod itself... i just hear they are very sensitive and i feel like that’s what you need if you’re trying to finesse and feel the bite. I do not care about handle lengths.... there’s more to worry about than handle lengths. 6’8” to 7’0” rod sounds nice.
  3. Pretty much explained what i want/need/desire in the form of finesse fishing. I stated shaky head and/or Ned rig. Which is a form of finesse fishing. The problem I’m having is actually choosing the one of ten rods and the one of ten reels. I explained what i want in terms of a rig pretty vividly... just looking for suggestions on what people have already tried.
  4. Okay... i understand that there are multiple varieties of rods and reels out there to choose from. I’m trying to find the best finesse setup based on SENSITIVITY, CASTIBILITY, and a decent BACKBONE. Since my topwaters haven’t really been working this summer, I’m trying to start back to square one and fish more of a traditional style using worm baits. Give me your guys’ best shaky head/Ned setup... spinning tackle or casting tackle. I prefer spinning tackle. Thanks guys.
  5. $250 max for reel and rod. There’s so many to pick from... it’s overwhelming So many... lmao. ?
  6. Spinning. Finesse as in worms and/or creature baits
  7. Just trying to get some suggestions on what you guys are using for a finesse type rod and reel? Want to try and start using worm and creature baits more as my topwater baits have been extremely quiet.
  8. I will try to make this quick. I’ve been struggling a lot this summer trying to catch some decent size fish. Last summer i had a lot of success with the whopper plopper... this summer it’s been a real challenge. I took my kayak out to woodland lake, MI yesterday and did mostly frog fishing (sprinker frog)... got hit 4 times and i got hooked into one but then lost it in the pads. I have a old town predator mx kayak and I’m not gonna lie... it’s some of the toughest fishing i’ve ever experienced. Especially with wind. I’ve been using mainly 3 rods. Frog rod, topwater rod, then a spinnerbait rod. The frog rod and topwater rod both have curado DC casting reels. Today on my frog rod i backlashed pretty bad with 65 pound power pro braid. It was on setting 1 and i still had to cut the line it was so bad. I don’t really know what I’m doing wrong. I have so much money tied up in fishing equipment and it’s not really paying off. Going through a serious drought for sure. If you have any suggestions on what i can do to improve my success, it’d be much appreciated. Thanks.
  9. Trying to. Lol. I feel like it’s almost a work of art to walk a frog. I can walk a spook and anything else perfectly fine. When it comes to a frog i struggle and you’re right it’s probably cuz I’m not giving the line enough slack. You’re definitely right. Walking a frog is almost like a work of art. It’s not easy, just takes practice. I’ll get to walk at times, then other times i won’t.
  10. Hi. So far this summer, I’ve really been struggling to fish topwater, especially frogs. I can’t walk a frog to save my life and I’m not sure why. I currently have an okuma 7’3” TCS heavy frogstick paired with a Curado 151 DC. Right now i just have one of those spro frogs tied onto 50 lb braid. I guess i need suggestions on two things. Which kind of topwater frog is the easiest to walk and what kind of hook and hook size do i need to rig a zoom horny toad in order for it to be weedless? Just bought a 5 pack of zoom horny toads today and tried rigging one with a straight up weightless Gamakatsu EWG hook and a Gamakatsu weighted superline spring-lock hook. Both didn’t seem to work. When i casted with the weightless EWG hook, it flipped over on its backside every time i reeled it in. When i casted the Gamakatsu weighted superline hook it caught more weeds than ever. It’s a 4/0 1/8 oz size hook. The casting was alright but i just caught a lot of weeds. I’m on a pretty bad dry spell. Haven’t caught a fish since last summer of May. If any of you guys can give me some suggestions, i would really appreciate it. Thanks
