Question about Filling Tilt Trim Oil
I have a 2001 150hp Mercury XR6. When I trim the motor all the way down it makes a noise that sounds like it's in need of fluid. My neighbors front-end loader did the same thing and he bled the system and refilled it and it worked great. So I thought that I'd check my fluid level. I first read through the Seloc manual i have and decide that I must be low on fluid. So I tilted the motor all the way up and opened the fill plug (the white plug on the left side) and oil shot out. Not much, maybe a teaspoon or so. After that the noise was much worse. So I got the tube of new oil and loosened the plug and tried to add more to the reservoir. I also opened the bleed screw on the lower right side while doing this. I felt like I didn't get any in so I just closed everything back up and now the motor wont go up or down. The bleed screw is closed and the fill screw is closed. I had to use my tractor lift to get the motor tilted up so I could get at the fill screw again. I'm stumped here. If fluid comes out when the fill screw is opened, then is it full? How do I bleed the system? The manual says this system is self-bleeding, but it can't move to bleed all the air out! What do I do? Thanks in advance!

Replacing Seals in the Mercury Lower Unit
After finding water in the lower unit, and doing a bit of testing, I decided to replace the seals in my XR6 (2001). I ordered them today and expect to get going on this this weekend. I have the Seloc manual for this motor, but does anyone have any links to pics of this procedure? I've never done it before but feel like I can handle it unless there are too many special tools involved. I read the manual , but it was a bit vague on the need for special equipment. Any ideas/pointers/advice? Thanks, Bryan.

Question About Mercury XR6 Water pump - I'm stumped!
First le me say Thanks to everyone for helping me get going on all this. Like I posted earlier, I bought a new water pump kit and set about replacing everything per the Seloc manual. The problem appeared to be that the "slinger" gasket was missing. I rebuilt everything and now the pressure at idle kinda bounces around a bit but runs about 20 psi. The stream from the pee hole at idle is kinda weak but fairly steady after the engine warms. I tested that using the muffs and a water hose. Tomorrow I'm gonna see how she does at the lake. And again, thanks. Bryan

Question About Mercury XR6 Water pump - I'm stumped!
Thanks Cajun, trying to get all my yearly maintenance done and I found a Mercury water pump kit at Bass Pro. I'll give that a try with the weedeater line. I just figured I did something wrong. Never thought about something in there in the way...

Question About Mercury XR6 Water pump - I'm stumped!
I bought a 2001 Triton Tr-186 DC last January. The boat has a Mercury XR6 150 (also 2001). I replaced the water pump impeller when I first got the boat and the pressure seemed OK running down the lake (the guy at the dealership said it should be 15 or 20 lbs). I had never done one before but the guy at the dealership gave me a quick rundown. But when the engine is at idle, water kinda sputters out of the pee hole. I see other boats (notably my buddy's 90 Evinrude) and they squirt a hard stream at idle. So my question is, Is this normal? Should the stream be stronger? Also where do you guys buy your parts from? Internet or local dealer?

Seating Choice for Front of Boat
Thanks guys. The first couple of times I took the boat out not being too sure-footed around the thing yet, I used the sit-down seat. The trolling motor pedal was too close and it wasn't all that comfortable. I moved the pedal a bit and tried again, not bad. The last couple of times I've been out, I used the pro-pole. It does seem to be getting more comfortable but it seems a bit tall. I can't really sit down so I think I'll get the next size down so I can take some of the weight off my feet occasionally. Again thanks for the replies. Also I think I'll see about one of the trolling motor foot controller trays to further ease the load on my back.

Seating Choice for Front of Boat
Hey everyone! I am new to the forum and have a question. I bought a used Triton Tr186DC a couple of weeks ago and am just getting used to it. It came with a front bike seat & pro-pole. I am not a small guy (6'2" 280 lbs) but I find that the pro pole is a bit too tall for me. It is a Swivel-Eze pole that extends 24"-30". The seat has a concave back I'm told allows you to raise the seat and turn it around then put the small of your back in this concave area. I asked about this when I bought the boat (Anglers Choice Martinsville, VA) and the guy there said that it looked about right. I'm not sure I wanna stand or lean while fishing. I'm just trying to get a feel for what everyone uses. Thanks.
