  1. I have the exact same slx combo. The rod is very stiff to load 1/4 baits but is great for 3/8 jigs with a trailer. I can load and cast 1/4 with no problem on my slx 7mh/f. Im using 30lb. 832 for top water and adding a long mono or floro leader depending on the presentation. I switched over another one of slx reels with 14lb. Floro and the gives a better balance for contact baits. Mono may be a good all around choice to allow a little more give.
  2. Definitely do what works for you. For me I love braid because it gives me the most flexibility. I use 10lb. braid and make changes depending on lure/presentation/water clarity. Strait braid for dirty water, muddy bottom and top water. I add floro 8-20lb when rocks and structure become an issue or if the water is clearer. Plus I don’t have to worry about memory, gain line capacity, and I can’t even remember the last time I’ve had a wind knot. I can use the same rod/reel for bass up to bull reds.
  3. I have two xt and one standard slx. It’s well worth the couple bucks to have the better brakes and external adjustment.
  4. Hello, I've been catching a lot of bass since I started using the Ned rig in January. I've also been loosing a lot of rigs due to snagging. I fish a lot of dirty ponds and lakes that are heavily stained or chocolate here in Texas. I tried the weedless zman mushroom head and it doesn't help much. I switch over to Lifted Jigs Ned EWG 1/16 oz with 1/0 VMC hook. This helped a lot but still have snags. I'm thinking about bumping up my leader or going straight braid. What are your thoughts? Currently using: Laguna M/L custom rod Shimano CI4+ 3000 Suffix 832 20 lb. (this rod is also my inshore finesse rod) Seaguar invisx 8 lb.
